The present article deals with the processing and microstructural evolution of powder metallurgy (PM) Zn-22Al pct eutectoid alloy. The powder material was produced through inert gas atomization and then cryomilled in liquid nitrogen. The milled powder particles were consolidated by hot isostatic pressing (“hipping”) followed by thermomechanical treatment, resulting in a two-phase microstructure. The microstructures were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The principal processing factors and microstructural characteristics associated with the major processing steps, including spray atomization, mechanical milling (MM), consolidation, and heat treatment, were evaluated and discussed. Hot isostatic pressing and extrusion followed by heat treatment to produce the superplastic structure (Al-rich phase and Zn-rich phase) are effective in elimination porosity. A TEM examination of the microstructure of the alloy after processing reveals the presence of nanodispersion particles that are not uniformly distributed. The formation of the dispersions was attributed to the interaction between the powder material (primarily Al phase) and environmental elements such as oxygen and nitrogen during milling. Moreover, the size and distribution of the dispersions present in the bulk material met the anticipated requirements for serving as inhibitors for grain growth and barriers for dislocation movement. The TEM observations on crept specimens reveal extensive dislocation/dispersion interactions.  相似文献

Successful Aging     
This issue's Works in Progress department presents six abstracts for projects that are developing interesting solutions to the elderly's quality of life challenges. The first two abstracts discuss projects that will help provide the elderly with freedom and independence by instrumenting their environments with supportive technology. The next two abstracts discuss projects building specialized user interfaces for addressing some of the challenges associated with aging, such as vision impairment. The final two abstracts present projects that will aid independence for the elderly by providing remote monitoring and assistance.  相似文献

We present a study of magneto-thermal instabilities in polycrystalline MgB2 superconductor, by magnetic hysteresis loop measurements and by investigations of magnetic flux dynamics with a miniature Hall probe. Temperature and magnetic field ranges where the flux jumps may be observed have been determined. On the basis of measurements of the magnetic flux dynamics, an average magnetic diffusivity describing the process of the flux jump is estimated. This parameter is compared with the thermal and magnetic diffusivities calculated on the basis of available data for thermal conductivity, heat capacity and resistivity. It is shown that the estimated value of the field of the first flux jump is influenced significantly by the field dependence of specific heat. In order to explain the observed phenomenon, the temperature reached by the sample during the flux jump at different magnetic fields is calculated.  相似文献

The transition metal joint (TMJ) between an austenitic stainless steel and a chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) ferritic steel used widely in steam generators of power plants has for a long time presented problems relating to premature failures in service. The direct (bimetallic) TMJ presently in use is designed for a service life of about 200,000 h; but such TMJs with iron-base weld metals have been failing in service within about one-third of their design lifetime, while their counterparts with nickel-base weld metals fail within about one-half of their design lifetime. The causes for such premature service failures of these TMJs are discussed in detail, leading to the development of improved TMJs. One of the improved TMJs with a trimetallic configuration of austenitic stainless steel/Alloy 800/Cr-Mo ferritic steel is discussed in detail, covering its development, characterisation and evaluation. Accelerated performance tests in the laboratory have indicated a four-fold improvement in the service life of the TMJ with this trimetallic configuration compared to the bimetallic configuration. The metallurgical details of these studies are also discussed in this paper.  相似文献

Nine children of the ALL-REZ BFM 87 and 90 trial received L-Asparginase (L-ASP) as a continuous infusion for 48-72 hs (i.e. 25 therapy cycles). Seven patients had had an allergic reaction towards an i.m. application (i.m., 29 therapy cycles). Two further patients got L-ASP initially as continuous infusion. The i.m. applications were carried out 19 times with Erwinia and 10 times with E. coli-Asparaginase, the continuous infusions 15 times with Erwinia and 10 times with E. coli-Asparaginase. In case of four patients continuous infusions of the same L-ASP type (E. coli or Erwinia) was well tolerated, after there had been an allergic reaction after i.m. application. Allergic reactions after i.m. application occurred during 10 courses as local painful erythema, during five courses as urticaria, during four courses as a general exanthema during one course as difficult breathing and during a further course as drop in blood pressure. After continuous infusion of L-ASP urticaria and difficult breathing occurred once and a transient exanthema two times. There was no anaphylactic reaction in any case. These data show that i.m. application of L-ASP causes no life-threatening side effects but allergic reactions (local pain and swelling) which clearly impaired general condition. Continuous infusion is a pharmacologically equivalent alternative with less impairment of the patients' general condition.  相似文献

The T-maze test has been used to study several entirely different issues: spontaneous alternation behavior (SAB), perseveration behavior (PB), and behavioral lateralization. Despite the fact that in this test the behavior studied is always the same one (i.e., side choice), the possible relationships among SAB, PB, and lateralization have not been previously evaluated. The present study investigated the relationships among these functions. The results demonstrated that (1) shock increases PB and lateralization decreases SAB, (2) practice increases lateralization and decreases SAB but does not modify PB, and (3) there are sex differences for alternation and SAB. Because these functions are expressed by the same behavioral pattern, they must be quantified simultaneously to avoid mistaken conclusions when the T-maze test is used. Catalytic abatement of solutions of 1,000 mg/L in phenol, ortho and para nitrophenol and ortho and para cresols was acomplished by using two catalytic systems. Fenton's reagent was used at 50 degrees C by adding 10 mg/L of ferrous cation and different dosages of H2O2. The mixture was reacting isothermically in a batch way during 3 hours. Catalytic wet oxidation (CWO) was carried out by using a commercial Activated Carbon, Industrial React FE01606A, CWO runs were carried out in a fixed bed reactor (FBR) with concurrent upflow. Temperature and oxygen pressure of the reactor were set to 160 degrees C and 16 bar, respectively. While phenols are quicky oxidised by the Fenton reagent higher mineralisation was obtained in the CWO process.  相似文献
