For the fast uptake into industrial applications, the further development of robust methods of nanomaterials, which are inexpensive and simultaneously technologically feasible, is one of the major key factors. A newly introduced atmospheric pulsed laser deposition method, based on a flowing gas approach, was used for plasmonic metal nanoparticle (NP) film of silver. Contrary to vacuum, in this method, the ambient air restricts expansion of the ablation plume within 1 to 3 mm above the target surface. These sets constrain on the formation of NP film close to the ablation spot. For deposition on a widely spaced surface, ablation material was entrained in a flow of argon, supplied at ~32 ms−1, and effectively delivered to the substrate at ~20 ms−1. The films produced were crystalline and particulate in nature, showing spectral plasmonic feature of surface plasmon resonance in the visible region. The film was directly tested in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy for chemical detection of crystal violet; the film with large particulates and aggregated crystallites was well-performed, showing enhanced Raman signals and detection sensitivity. Certainly, flowing gas atmospheric pulsed laser deposition seems a fast alternative to vacuum-pulsed laser deposition but needs further investigations to bring it in the industry for applications in sensor, catalysis, solar cell, and coating technology. 相似文献

The main purpose of this study is to apply a two-fluid mathematical model to numerical simulation of two-phase flow at low-pressure condition. Although models of sub-cooled boiling flow at one-dimension and high-pressure have been studied extensively, there are few equivalent studies for numerical simulation at two-dimension and low-pressure (1-2 bar) conditions. Recent literature studies on sub-cooled boiling flow at low-pressure have shown that empirical models developed for high-pressure situations are not valid at low-pressures. Since the mathematical model used in this study is accomplished at low-pressure, the transport equations for the variables of each phase are substituted in low-pressure. The governing equations of two-phase flow with an allowance to inter-phase transfer of mass, momentum and heat, are solved using a two-fluid; non-equilibrium model. The finite volume discretization scheme is used to create a linearized system of equations that are solved by SIMPLE staggered grid solution technique for a rectangular channel. Improvement of the void fraction prediction of our model for the case of low-pressure sub-cooled flow boiling conditions was achieved. It is found that the heat transfer due to evaporation and surface quenching is higher than that by convection. The global attention has always been focussed on the adverse environmental impacts of conventional energy sources. In contrast nonconventional energy sources, particularly the renewable ones, have enjoyed a ‘clean’ image vis a vis environmental impacts. The only major exception to this general trend has been large hydropower projects; experience has taught us that they can be disastrous for the environment. The belief now is that minihydel and microhydel projects are harmless alternatives. But are renewable energy sources really as benign as is widely believed? The present essay addresses this question in the background of Lovin's classical paradigm, which had postulated the hard (malignant) and soft (benign) energy concepts in the first place. It critically evaluates the environmental impacts of major renewable energy sources. It then comes up with the broad conclusion that renewable energy sources are not the panacea they are popularly perceived to be; indeed in some cases their adverse environmental impacts can be as strongly negative as the impacts of conventional energy sources. The paper also dwells on the steps we need to take so that we can utilize renewable energy sources without facing environmental backlashes of the type we got from hydropower projects. 相似文献

Welding dissimilar metals by fusion welding is challenging. It results in welding defects. Friction stir welding (FSW) as a solid-state joining method can overcome these problems. In this study, 304L stainless steel was joined to copper by FSW. The optimal values of the welding parameters traverse speed, rotational speed, and tilt angle were obtained through Response surface methodology (RSM). Under optimal welding conditions, the effects of welding pass number on the microstructures and mechanical properties of the welded joints were investigated. Results indicated that appropriate values of FSW parameters could be obtained by RSM and grain size refinement during FSW mainly affected the hardness in the weld regions. Furthermore, the heat from the FSW tool increased the grain size in the Heat-affected zones (HAZs), especially on the copper side. Therefore, the strength and ductility decreased as the welding pass number increased because of grain size enhancement in the HAZs as the welding pass number increased. 相似文献
