The main aim of this work is to investigate the effect of CO2 and N2O under pressure in aqueous solution - both on-line and in real-time. In particular, the paper presents the kinetics of pH behaviour of either slightly buffered minimal medium (MM) or non-buffered solution (Ringer solution) during high-pressure treatment at 5, 30 and 60 bar at 25 °C.An innovative spectrophotometric approach has been developed: an optical fiber conducted the inlet signal of a light source into the high-pressure reactor, while another fiber conducted the outlet signal to a spectrometer, thus, obtaining measurements on-line and real-time.CO2 treatment resulted in a pH decrease down to 3.0 in Ringer solution with the equilibrium being reached after 800 s, while the slightly buffered MM allows only for a decrease down to 4.5 with equilibrium being reached after slightly more than 40 s at 60 bar.N2O treatment, as expected, did not lead to any acidification of the treated medium at any conditions tested.Furthermore, a mathematical model describing both the solubilization kinetics of CO2 and in aqueous solution and the decrease of extracellular pH has been implemented. This model may easily be applied to different reactor configurations. The theoretical results and the goodness of the fit has been verified using the experimental results showing a good accuracy of the complex phenomena with a simplification that is of vital relevance for technical processes. 相似文献

In the present study, six families of sulfated polysaccharides were obtained from seaweed Dictyopteris delicatula by proteolytic digestion, followed by acetone fractionation and molecular sieving on Sephadex G-100. Chemical analyses demonstrated that all polysaccharides contain heterofucans composed mainly of fucose, xylose, glucose, galactose, uronic acid, and sulfate. The fucans F0.5v and F0.7v at 1.0 mg/mL showed high ferric chelating activity (~45%), whereas fucans F1.3v (0.5 mg/mL) showed considerable reducing power, about 53.2% of the activity of vitamin C. The fucan F1.5v presented the most prominent anticoagulant activity. The best antiproliferative activity was found with fucans F1.3v and F0.7v. However, F1.3v activity was much higher than F0.7v inhibiting almost 100% of HeLa cell proliferation. Stingless bees (Apidae: Meliponini) are the most diverse group of Apid bees and represent common pollinators in tropical ecosystems.
Like honeybees they live in large eusocial colonies and rely on complex chemical recognition and communication systems. In
contrast to honeybees, their ecology and especially their chemical ecology have received only little attention, particularly
in the Old World. We previously have analyzed the chemical profiles of six paleotropical stingless bee species from Borneo
and revealed the presence of species-specific cuticular terpenes— an environmentally derived compound class so far unique
among social insects. Here, we compared the bees’ surface profiles to the chemistry of their nest material. Terpenes, alkanes,
and alkenes were the dominant compound groups on both body surfaces and nest material. However, bee profiles and nests strongly
differed in their chemical composition. Body surfaces thus did not merely mirror nests, rendering a passive compound transfer
from nests to bees unlikely. The difference between nests and bees was particularly pronounced when all resin-derived compounds
(terpenes) were excluded and only genetically determined compounds were considered. When terpenes were included, bee profiles
and nest material still differed, because whole groups of terpenes (e.g., sesquiterpenes) were found in nest material of some
species, but missing in their chemical profile, indicating that bees are able to influence the terpene composition both in

Induced changes in primary metabolism are important plant responses to herbivory, providing energy and metabolic precursors
for defense compounds. Metabolic shifts also can lead to reallocation of leaf resources to storage tissues, thus increasing
a plant’s tolerance. We characterized whole-plant metabolic responses of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) 24 h after leaf herbivory by two caterpillars (the generalist Helicoverpa zea and the specialist Manduca sexta) by using GC-MS. We measured 56 primary metabolites across the leaves, stems, roots, and apex, comparing herbivore-attacked
plants to undamaged plants and mechanically damaged plants. Induced metabolic change, in terms of magnitude and number of
individual concentration changes, was stronger in the apex and root tissues than in undamaged leaflets of damaged leaves,
indicating rapid and significant whole-plant responses to damage. Helicoverpa zea altered many more metabolites than M. sexta across most tissues, suggesting an enhanced plant response to H. zea herbivory. Helicoverpa zea herbivory strongly affected concentrations of defense-related metabolites (simple phenolics and precursor amino acids), while
M. sexta altered metabolites associated with carbon and nitrogen transport. We conclude that herbivory induces many systemic primary
metabolic changes in tomato, and that changes often are specific to a single tissue or type of herbivore. The potential implications

Residual monomer is an important factor, particularly in hygienic materials such as superabsorbent polymer (SAP) hydrogels. Recently, we reported different approaches to minimizing residual monomer content in SAPs. In this paper, the effect of a long-chain monomer, poly(ethylene glycol) methylether methacrylate (PEG.MEMA), on the residual monomer content of SAP networks of partially neutralized acrylic acid–PEG.MEMA is investigated. The aim of using PEG.MEMA in SAP synthesis was to reduce the glass transition temperature (T g) of SAP. As the temperature that is conventionally used to dry SAP (70–110 °C) is lower than the T g of ordinary SAPs, the polymer is in the glassy state during the heating stage. It was assumed that converting SAP from the glassy state to the rubbery state during drying would facilitate the removal of acrylic acid monomer (AA) from the gel, thus reducing the residual monomer content. The results showed that the use of PEG.MEMA led to a reduction in residual AA when the drying temperature was 100 °C. The residual AA was decreased from 169 to 95 ppm when the drying time was increased from 3 to 15 hours at 100 °C. This positive effect of PEG.MEMA on the level of unwanted residual AA became insignificant at a higher drying temperature (140 °C). The effects of PEG.MEMA content on the thermal and mechanical properties (in the dried state) and the rheological properties (in the water-swollen state) of the SAP hydrogels were also investigated. The swelling capacity and rate was studied in relation to the PEG.MEMA content. Novel low-cost materials to uptake and detect vestigial amounts of pesticides are highly desirable for water quality monitoring. Herein, are demonstrated, for the first time, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors enabled via additively manufactured lattices coated with plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) for detecting pesticides in real water samples. The architected lattices comprising polypropylene (PP) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are realized via fused filament fabrication (FFF). In the first stage, the SERS performance of the PP/MWCNT filaments coated with distinct metallic NPs (Ag NPs and Au NPs) is evaluated using methylene blue (MB) as molecular probe. Thereafter, distinctly architected hybrid SERS sensors with periodic porous and fully dense geometries are investigated as adsorbents to uptake MB from aqueous solutions and subsequent detection using SERS. The spatial distribution of MB and Ag NPs on the FFF-printed lattices is accomplished by SERS imaging. The best hybrid composite is used as SERS probing system to detect low amounts of pesticides (thiram and paraquat) and offers a detection limit of 100 nm for both pesticides. As a proof-of-concept, FFF-enabled test strips are used to detect in loco paraquat molecules spiked on real water samples (Estuary Aveiro water and tap water) using a portable Raman spectrometer. 相似文献

The electrical conductivity σ has been calculated for p-doped GaAs/Al0.3Ga0.7As and cubic GaN/Al0.3Ga0.7N thin superlattices (SLs). The calculations are done within a self-consistent approach to the theory by means of a full six-band Luttinger-Kohn Hamiltonian, together with the Poisson equation in a plane wave representation,
including exchange correlation effects within the local density approximation. It was also assumed that transport in the SL
occurs through extended minibands states for each carrier, and the conductivity is calculated at zero temperature and in low-field
ohmic limits by the quasi-chemical Boltzmann kinetic equation. It was shown that the particular minibands structure of the
p-doped SLs leads to a plateau-like behavior in the conductivity as a function of the donor concentration and/or the Fermi
level energy. In addition, it is shown that the Coulomb and exchange-correlation effects play an important role in these systems,

The activation of the pozzolanic reaction of fly ash in portland cement paste immersed in sulfate solution has been studied. Mixtures of two Spanish fly ashes (ASTM class F) with 0%, 15%, and 35% replacement of portland cement by fly ash were immersed in Na2 SO4 solution, of 2880 ppm SO4 2− concentration, for a period of 90 days. The resistance of the different mixtures to the sulfate attack was evaluated using the Koch-Steinegger test. The results showed that all of the mixtures were sulfate resistant, despite the high Al2 O3 content of the fly ash. The diffusion of SO4 2− and Na+ ions through the pore solution activated the pozzolanic reactivity of the fly ashes, causing microstructural changes, which were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As a result, the flexural strength of the mixtures increased, principally for the fly ash of a lower particle size and 35% of addition. 相似文献
