As research on the connection between narcissism and social networking site (SNS) use grows, definitions of SNS and measurements of their use continue to vary, leading to conflicting results. To improve understanding of the relationship between narcissism and SNS use, as well as the implications of differences in definition and measurement, we examine two ways of measuring Facebook and Twitter use by testing the hypothesis that SNS use is positively associated with narcissism. We also explore the relation between these types of SNS use and different components of narcissism within college students and general adult samples. Our findings suggest that for college students, posting on Twitter is associated with the Superiority component of narcissistic personality while Facebook posting is associated with the Exhibitionism component. Conversely, adults high in Superiority post on Facebook more rather than Twitter. For adults, Facebook and Twitter are both used more by those focused on their own appearances but not as a means of showing off, as is the case with college students. Given these differences, it is essential for future studies of SNS use and personality traits to distinguish between different types of SNS, different populations, and different types of use. 相似文献

Using cardiomyocytes derived from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC-CMs), it is now possible to develop models of human cardiac diseases and to screen novel pharmaceutical agents on human cardiac cells and tissues. However, since hPSC-CMs display an immature phenotype, significant focus has turned to cardiac tissue engineering to deliver a means to mature these cells. In this review we discuss the maturation state of currently available hPSC-CMs and provide an overview of the processes involved in cardiomyocyte maturation. We then explore the differences between pathological and physiological hypertrophy and discuss how tissue engineering techniques that rely on the combined use of biomaterials and bioreactors can be utilized to enhance and study the hypertrophic response. 相似文献

Sodium nitrite (SNT) widely used as a curative agent in meat processing industry possesses cell-transforming mutagenic and cytogenic properties. Dietary omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFA) has been shown to reduce the severity of certain types of cancers, cardiovascular and renal diseases. The present study examined whether feeding of fish oil (FO)/flaxseed oil (FXO) has protective effect against SNT-induced toxicity. SNT significantly altered the activities of serum creatinine (Crt), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), metabolic and brush border membrane (BBM) enzymes. SNT caused significant imbalances in the antioxidant system associated with increased lipid peroxidation (LPO). Feeding of FO and FXO with SNT ameliorated the changes in various parameters caused by SNT. Nephrotoxicity parameters lowered and enzyme activities of carbohydrate metabolism, BBM and radioactively labeled inorganic phosphate (32Pi) transport were improved to near control values. The results of the present study suggest that ω-3 PUFA-enriched FO and FXO from sea-foods and plant sources respectively are similarly effective in reducing SNT-induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative damage. 相似文献

Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation acts as a strong apoptotic trigger in many cell types, in tumor and normal cells. Several studies have demonstrated that UVB-induced cell death occurs through the generation of reactive oxygen species. The consequent oxidative stress includes the impairment of cellular antioxidants, the induction of DNA damage and the occurrence of apoptosis. In this review, we investigated UVB apoptotic action in various cell models by using ultrastructural, molecular and cytofluorimetric techniques. Myeloid leukemia HL-60, T-lymphoblastoid Molt-4 and myelomonocytic U937 human cells, generally affected by apoptotic stimuli, were studied. Human chondrocytes and C2C12 skeletal muscle cells, known to be more resistant to damage, were also considered. All of them, when exposed to UVB radiation, revealed a number of characteristic apoptotic markers. Membrane blebbing, cytoplasm shrinkage and chromatin condensation were detected by means of electron microscopy. DNA cleavage, investigated by using agarose gel electrophoresis and TUNEL reaction, was observed in suspended cells. Differently, in chondrocytes and in skeletal muscle cells, oligonucleosomic DNA fragmentation did not appear, even if a certain TUNEL positivity was detected. The aim of this study was to determine energy consumption and the relationship between energy input and yield for potato production in Kaboud Rahang region of Hamadan state. The data used in this study are collected by questionnaire. The results revealed that nitrogen fertilizer (39%), diesel (21%), seed (14.9%), water (7.5%) and manure (6.4%) consumed the bulk of energy. In the surveyed farms, average yield and energy consumption were calculated as around 28613.7 kg/ha, 92296.3 MJ/ha, respectively. The results also showed that energy ratio, specific energy and energy productivity were 1.1, 3.2 MJ/kg and 0.3 kg/MJ, respectively. An econometric model was developed to estimate the impact of energy inputs on yield by using parametric methods. For this purpose, potato yield, an endogenous variable was assumed to be a function of energy inputs: fertilizer manure, chemical, machinery, human, water for irrigation, diesel and seed. The empirical results indicated that variables: fertilizer, chemical, seed and human were found statistically significant and contributed to yield. Among statistically significant exogenous variables, seed, water for irrigation, chemical, human and fertilizer were ranked in terms of elasticities. 相似文献

A three-dimensional geological model was built to show and analyse a northern sector of the Scotia–Antarctica transform plate boundary.The South Scotia Ridge is a 400 km long submerged continental structural high representing the eastern continuation of the Antarctic Peninsula. South Scotia Ridge runs approximately in the E–W direction, separating Scotia Sea Plate from Antarctica Plates. Structures, due to the transform plate margin, are considered to be concentrated inside this continental high. The three-dimensional model, built using seismic profiles and a digital elevation model, is a powerful tool to visualize and help to understand deep geological structures. Maps and profiles, on the contrary, only give a two-dimensional view, and do not show the structure of the continental–oceanic boundary at depth.The model shows that the deformation style of the continental–oceanic boundary, and of the oceanic crust nearby, is related to the left-lateral movement of the main transform fault system. Furthermore, it seems to be connected to the orientation and geometry of the South Scotia Ridge with respect to the homogeneous deformation regime, which affects the entire Scotia Plate. Moving from west to east, the NW-dipping main fault surface becomes almost vertical with a sinistral strike–slip movement in the central sector. To the east, a south-dipping plane decreases its inclination and changes orientation (from E–W to ESE–WNW): here shortening features are visible.The three-dimensional geological model presents a western and central province wherein the continental–oceanic boundary involves the fragmented continental blocks, the continental slope, the oceanic basement and sediments. In this study, different concentrations of Li2O (0–12 wt.%) were substituted for Na2O in 45S5 bioglass® and the effect of these substitutions on both in vitro apatite formation ability and osteoblastic cell responses was studied. For these purposes, the structural and topographical properties of the glasses were studied using, XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDXA and AFM techniques, before and after storing in simulated body fluid for different time intervals. Additionally, the proliferation rate and activity of newborn rat calvaria-derived osteoblastic cells on different samples were examined by using dimethylthiazol diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) assessment methods. From XRD and FTIR data, it was found that poor crystalline carbonated nanoapatite phase was formed on the surface of glasses with maximum concentration of Li or without Li, while at low substitutions an inhibition of apatite formation was observed. The apatite layer formed on the surfaces of the glasses had similar morphology, flakes which tightly entangled to others. All samples had the same surface roughness before soaking but different values after that. It was found that both proliferation rate and alkaline phosphatase activity of the cells cultured on Li-substituted glasses were higher than those of Li-free sample in a dose-dependent manner. The results suggest that lithia-modified glasses may be successfully used as bone defect filler even with more effectiveness than 45S5 bioglass®. 相似文献

The development of a fast and reliable screening method for the determination of tetracycline residues in milk is described
and compared to high-performance liquid chromatography. The method is based on europium-sensitized luminescence: The emissive
properties of the lanthanide cation are used as a fingerprint of europium (III) complexation with tetracycline. The optimization
of the extraction and purification procedures provided a simple and convenient route to prepare stable tetracycline samples
that can safely resist freezing cycles. The method is validated for the first time in milk matrix: The results show that accuracy
and precision of the method meet complaints with the criteria of the Commission Decision 2002/657/EC. The proposed method
