Motivated by recent applications of wireless sensor networks in monitoring infrastructure networks, we address the problem of optimal coverage of infrastructure networks using sensors whose sensing performance decays with distance. We show that this problem can be formulated as a continuous p-median problem on networks. The literature has addressed the discrete p-median problem   on networks and in continuum domains, and the continuous pp-median problem in continuum domains extensively. However, in-depth analysis of the continuous pp-median problem on networks has been lacking. With the sensing performance model that decays with distance, each sensor covers a region equivalent to its Voronoi partition on the network in terms of the shortest path distance metric. Using Voronoi partitions, we define a directional partial derivative of the coverage metric with respect to a sensor’s location. We then propose a gradient descent algorithm to obtain a locally optimal solution with guaranteed convergence. The quality of an optimal solution depends on the choice of the initial configuration of sensors. We obtain an initial configuration using two approaches: by solving the discrete pp-median problem on a lumped   network and by random sampling. We consider two methods of random sampling: uniform sampling and D2D2-sampling. The first approach with the initial solution of the discrete pp-median problem leads to the best coverage performance for large networks, but at the cost of high running time. We also observe that the gradient descent on the initial solution with the D2D2-sampling method yields a solution that is within at most 7% of the previous solution and with much shorter running time.  相似文献

This paper presents the development of a reliable heat index (HI) measurement system for evaluating the thermal comfort of a particular building or a particular area. The HI is an index that combines air temperature and relative humidity (RH) to determine the human-perceived equivalent temperature. To measure the air temperature and RH, temperature to digital converter and RH to voltage converter is used. HI is calculated online with the help of embedded firmware of the microcontroller. This calculated value is then transferred to the computer through standard RS 232 serial port. The same sensor node is tested with the RS 485 network standard by changing the transceiver of the node. The system is calibrated using four standard saturated binary salt solutions.  相似文献

Results from a study of indirect wafer bonding and epitaxial transfer of GaSb-based materials are presented. Benzocyclobutene (BCB) was used as a bonding agent to bond GaSb and epitaxial structures lattice matched to GaSb onto Si, GaAs, and sapphire carrier substrates. To better understand sources of stress during the bonding process, which can result in cracking and subsurface damage of the GaSb-based materials, BCB’s hardness and reduced elastic modulus were measured at various stages during the curing process. Based on the results of curing experiments, a bonding and epitaxial transfer process for GaSb-based materials was then developed. Following bonding, using an experimentally determined low-stress cure cycle, GaSb substrates were removed from epitaxial layers of InAsSb using a combination of mechanical thinning and polishing followed by selective chemical etching using a hydrofluoric and chromic acid solution. Etch selectivity data are also presented where selectivity greater than 100:1 is achieved for GaSb:InAsSb.  相似文献

A single‐feed T‐type fractal boundary microstrip antenna is presented. It is established that a very good circular polarization is realizable with 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth of 1.27% at the center frequency of 2446 MHz by changing the electrical length in two directions of the square patch by using T‐type fractal curve as boundary. Further it is shown that the surface area occupied by the antenna is reduced compared to the Euclidean shaped patch antenna without much degradation in gain of the antenna. In today’s competitive environment for software products, quality is an important characteristic. The development of large-scale software products is a complex and expensive process. Testing plays a very important role in ensuring product quality. Improving the software development process leads to improved product quality. We propose a queueing model based on re-entrant lines to depict the process of software modules undergoing testing/debugging, inspections and code reviews, verification and validation, and quality assurance tests before being accepted for use. Using the re-entrant line model for software testing, bounds on test times are obtained by considering the state transitions for a general class of modules and solving a linear programming model. Scheduling of software modules for tests at each process step yields the constraints for the linear program. The methodology presented is applied to the development of a software system and bounds on test times are obtained. These bounds are used to allocate time for the testing phase of the project and to estimate the release times of software.  相似文献
