Room-temperature continuous-wave (CW) operation of a liquid-phase epitaxy (LPE)-grown GaInAsP/AlGaAs laser that uses a V-channel substrate inner stripe (VSIS) structure to obtain current confinement and transverse mode control is discussed. The threshold current and lasing wavelength were 77 mA and 671 nm, respectively, and the temperature dependence of the threshold current was such that the characteristic temperature was 75 K  相似文献

Host-plant chemicals responsible for egg-laying by the chestnut tiger butterfly, Parantica sita, were identified from one of its hosts, Marsdenia tomentosa. Ovipositing females responded positively to a methanolic extract of the plant. Solvent partitioning of the extract and oviposition bioassays indicated that the active principle resided in the aqueous fraction. Further activity-directed fractionation of the water-soluble constituents by various forms of column chromatography led to the isolation of several saturated and unsaturated cyclitols together with their glycosides. Of these, conduritol A, a predominant cyclitol present in the plant, moderately stimulated oviposition, while conduritol F 2-O-glucoside, although present in a very small amount, evoked a stronger response from females than conduritol A when tested at the same dose. In contrast, its aglycone, conduritol F, which was also a trace component, was almost inactive by itself. However, the oviposition-stimulatory activity of conduritol A was significantly enhanced when tested in combination with a small quantity of conduritol F. Addition of a small quantity of conduritol F 2-O-glucoside to conduritol A resulted in a substantial elevation in female responses. Consequently, the synergistic action of a large amount of conduritol A and small amounts of co-occurring conduritol F and its glucoside can account for the stimulation of egg-laying by P. sita on M. tomentosa.  相似文献

1.6 ?m wavelength GaInAsP/InP buried heterostructure (b.h.) lasers were fabricated by a new process. The low threshold of 25 mA was obtained for a cavity length of about 300 ?m and stripe width of 3?5 ?m. Room temperature c.w. operation was also obtained with the threshold of 37 mA. In enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) processes, activated sludge microorganisms accumulate large quantities of polyphosphate (polyP) intracellularly. We previously discovered that nearly all of polyP could be released from waste activated sludge simply by heating it at 70 degrees C for about 1 h. We also demonstrated that this simple method was applicable to phosphorus (P) recovery from waste activated sludge in a pilot plant-scale EBPR process. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of this sludge processing (heat treatment followed by calcium phosphate precipitation) on anaerobic digestion in laboratory-scale experiments. The results suggested that the sludge processing for P recovery could improve digestive efficiency and methane productivity at both mesophilic (37 degrees C) and thermophilic (53 degrees C) temperatures. In addition, heat-treated waste sludge released far less P into the digested sludge liquor than did untreated waste sludge. It is likely that the P recovery step prior to anaerobic digestion has a potential advantage for controlling struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate) deposit problems in sludge handling processes.  相似文献

The finite cover method (FCM), which is a cover-based generalized finite element method, is extended for analyses of progressive failure processes involving cohesive zone fracture, starting from an interface debonding and evolving toward one of the constituents of heterogeneous solids and structures. Assuming that the constituents fail according to the maximum principal stress, we are able to represent the evolution of the resulting failure surfaces of discontinuity independent of mesh alignment owing to the distinctive features of the FCM. Also, interface elements with Lagrange multipliers are introduced to impose compatibility conditions on the material interface so that debonding is judged by the multipliers. Representative numerical examples demonstrate the capability of the proposed method in tracing the smooth transition of crack paths from interfacial to internal failure, and vice versa.  相似文献
