Gordonia amarae is the cause of foaming activated sludge. In this study, the mechanism of foam formation by G. amarae SC1 was investigated. A liquid culture of SC1 cells generated a stable foam when shaken reciprocally. This foam formation was dependent on the presence of both bacterial cells and culture supernatant. A high-molecular-weight fraction (Mw>10000) of the supernatant was capable of emulsifying n-hexadecane in addition to exhibiting foaming activity, indicating that it contains a surface-active substance(s). The bacterial cells showed a high affinity to hexadecane. This hydrophobic cell surface property might be involved in the attachment of cells to air bubbles to generate a stable foam. The results demonstrated the participation of cells and the extracellular biosurfactant in the formation and stabilization of foam in G. amarae SC1 culture.  相似文献

In this study, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, installed for surveillance purposes, is utilized to measure the flow rate during a flood. The procedure to determine both the angle and scale-factor of the camera is described. Then, image analysis techniques, namely the direct visual measurement method, Large-Scale PIV (LSPIV) and Space-Time Image Velocimetry (STIV), are applied to the video images recorded by the CCTV camera. The results of these methods and the conventional float measurement are compared. In addition, the accuracy of the respective methods is discussed. A set of low-quality video images of a flood during a thunderstorm that occurred under the dark ambient conditions (midnight) is analyzed using three image-based methods. The transition of the flow rate during the event is successfully estimated.  相似文献

Cities consumed 84% of commercial energy in China, which indicates cities should be the main areas for GHG emissions reduction. Our case study of Shenyang in this paper shows how a clear inventory analysis on GHG emissions at city level can help to identify the major industries and societal sectors for reduction efforts so as to facilitate low-carbon policy-making. The results showed total carbon emission in 2007 was 57 Mt CO2 equivalents (CO2e), of which 41 Mt CO2e was in-boundary emissions and 16 Mt CO2e was out-of-boundary emissions. The energy sector was dominant in the emission inventory, accounting for 93.1% of total emissions. Within energy sector, emissions from energy production industry, manufacturing and construction industry accounted for 88.4% of this sector. Our analysis showed that comparing with geographical boundary, setting system boundary based on single process standard could provide better information to decision makers for carbon emission reduction. After attributing electricity and heating consumption to final users, the resident and commercial sector became the largest emitter, accounting for 28.5% of total emissions. Spatial analysis of emissions showed that industrial districts such as Shenbei and Tiexi had the large potential to reduce their carbon emissions. We identified three types of acid phosphatase (ACP-I, ACP-II, and ACP-III) produced by Aspergillus oryzae in a submerged culture using only phytic acid as the phosphorous substrate. The optimum pH for the activities of the three enzymes was in the range of 4.5 to 5.5. Analysis of the substrate specificities of these enzymes revealed that ACP-I and ACP-III were acid phosphatases, and ACP-II was a phytase. These enzymes were produced during different periods of mycelial growth: ACP-II was produced during the early phase of cultivation (around 24 h), and ACP-I was produced between 24 to 72 h. ACP-III was detected after the production of ACP-I and ACP-II had ceased. The release of phosphate from phytic acid was expected to be due to the cooperative hydrolysis of these enzymes.  相似文献

In order to elucidate boiling heat transfer characteristics for each tube and the critical heat flux (CHF) for tube bundles, an experimental investigation of pool and flow boiling of Freon-113 at 0.1 MPa was performed using two typical tube arrangements. A total of fifty heating tubes of 14 mm diameter, equipped with thermocouples and cartridge heaters, were arrayed at pitches of 18.2 and 21.0 mm to simulate both square in-line and equilateral staggered bundles. For the flow boiling tests the same bundles as were used in pool boiling were installed in a vertical rectangular channel, to which the fluid was supplied with an approach velocity varying from 0.022 to 0.22 m/s. It was found in this study that the boiling heat transfer coefficient of each tube in a bundle was higher than that for an isolated single tube in pool boiling. This enhancement increases for tubes at higher locations, but decreases as heat flux is increased. At heat fluxes exceeding certain values, the heat transfer coefficient becomes the same as that for an isolated tube. As the heat flux approaches the CHF, flow pulsations occurred in the pool boiling experiments although the heat transfer coefficient was invariant even under this situation. The approach velocity has an appreciable effect on heat transfer up to a certain level of heat flux. In this range of heat flux, the heat transfer coefficient exceeds the values observed for pool boiling. An additive method with two contributions, i.e., single phase convection and boiling, was used to predict the heat transfer coefficient for bundles. The predicted results showed reasonable agreement with the measured results. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation relating to heat transfer during evaporation of thin liquid films falling over horizontal tubes. Experiments were conducted using 25 mm o.d. copper tubes heated by internal electrical cartridge heaters so that a uniform heat flux was generated on the outside tube surface. Five heated tubes were arrayed on a vertical plane with a pitch of 50 mm. Freon R-11 preheated to the saturation temperature at 0.2 MPa was supplied to the topmost heated tube through feeding tubes. Heat transfer characteristics on each heated tube were clarified in a range of film Reynolds number from 10 to 2000 and the measured data are presented in the form of correlations. The propagation speed of tribrachial (triple) flames in laminar propane jets has been investigated experimentally under normal and micro gravity conditions. We found in the present experiment that the displacement speed varied nonlinearly with axial distance because the flow velocity along the stoichiometric contour was comparable to the propagation speed of tribrachial flame. Approximate solutions for the velocity and concentration accounting density difference and virtual origins have been used in determining the propagation speed of tribrachial flame and the concentration field was validated from the measurement of Raman scattering. Under the microgravity condition, the results showed that the propagation speed of tribrachial flame decreased with the mixture fraction gradient, in agreement with previous studies. The limiting maximum propagation speed under the microgravity condition is in good agreement with the theoretical prediction, ie, the ratio of maximum propagation speed to the stoichiometric laminar burning velocity is proportional to the square root of the density ratio of unburned to burnt mixture.  相似文献

Recent computational studies (Phys. Rev. Lett. 70 (1993) 1960; Phys. Rev. B 62 (2000) 17055) predicted that friction of ordered organic monolayer had characteristic dependence on temperature, where the maximum friction was observed around rotator transition point of the monolayer. This remained to be confirmed experimentally. Using a friction force microscope (FFM) combined with a temperature regulation module, we attempted to investigate such dependence on temperature (130 K-room temperature) on a self-assembled monolayer of dodecanethiol prepared on Au(1 1 1). The observed friction showed strong dependence on temperature and good agreement with the computational prediction.  相似文献

Double-stranded DNA molecules were patterned by selective adsorption to aminosilane patterns on mica surfaces. Line patterns with 10 microm spacing were made by photolithography and transferred to a polymer stamp. The stamp was then used for applying aminosilane molecules by microcontact-printing technique on mica substrates. We applied DNA in Tris-EDTA (TE) buffer solution on the patterned substrate, and incubated it for 5 min at room temperature. The sample was then rinsed with pure water, and dried with nitrogen gas. Tapping mode force microscopy showed that DNA was adsorbed selectively on the aminosilanized parts of the mica substrate. We also tried to bridge two aluminum electrodes with DNA using AC electrophoresis.  相似文献

The relationship between thiophene sequences and organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) characteristics was studied to determine their effect on ionization potential, molecular orientation, and air stability. Two types of molecular structures were used: continuous sequence and divided sequence thiophenes. The length of thiophene sequence did not affect FET characteristics but did affect ionic potential and air stability. Furthermore, materials with divided thiophene sequences showed no change in OTFT characteristics when exposed to air. These results suggest that separation of thiophene sequences can improve air stability, which is a problem of thiophene-based materials.  相似文献
