Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a widely studied inorganic phase change material, which has a reversible phase transition from semiconducting monoclinic to metallic rutile phase at a critical temperature of τc ≈ 68 °C. The abrupt decrease of infrared transmittance in the metallic phase makes VO2 a potential candidate for thermochromic energy efficient windows to cut down building energy consumption. However, there are three long‐standing issues that hindered its application in energy efficient windows: high τc, low luminous transmittance (Tlum), and undesirable solar modulation ability (ΔTsol). Many approaches, including nano‐thermochromism, porous films, biomimetic surface reconstruction, gridded structures, antireflective overcoatings, etc, have been proposed to tackle these issues. The first approach—nano‐thermochromism—which is to integrate VO2 nanoparticles in a transparent matrix, outperforms the rest; while the thermochromic performance is determined by particle size, stoichiometry, and crystallinity. A hydrothermal method is the most common method to fabricate high‐quality VO2 nanoparticles, and has its own advantages of large‐scale synthesis and precise phase control of VO2. This Review focuses on hydrothermal synthesis, physical properties of VO2 polymorphs, and their transformation to thermochromic VO2(M), and discusses the advantages, challenges, and prospects of VO2(M) in energy‐efficient smart windows application.  相似文献

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may demonstrate great variability between results on the pulmonary function test (PFT) compared to those on the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPXT). The purpose of this study was to correlate PFT and CPXT indices and to identify PFT threshold values for predicting exercise capacity in patients with airflow limitation. Fifty-seven patients (48 men and 9 women) of mean age 66.4 +/- 4.8 years with COPD and 40 age-matched control patients underwent PFT and CPXT. Based on the CPXT results, the patients were divided into ventilatory-limited (VL) and nonventilatory-limited (NVL), and the findings were correlated with the PFT indices. Linear regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between dyspnea index (VEmax/MVV) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1). The cutoff value for VL was FEV1 < 38% and for NVL FEV1 > 68%. The prominent limiting symptom (61%) in the VL group was dyspnea sensation, with leg discomfort presenting in only 14%; corresponding rates in the NVL group were 38% and 31%. We conclude that the FEV1 is a reliable index for distinguishing VL from NVL COPD patients during CPXT at two extremes: below 38% of the predicted value (VL) and above 68% of the predicted value (NVL).  相似文献

The reduction of semantic priming following letter search of the prime suggests that semantic activation can be blocked if attention is allocated to the letter level during word processing. Is this true even for the very fast-acting component of semantic activation? To test this, the authors explored semantic priming of lexical decision at stimulus onset asynchronies (SOAs) of either 200 or 1000 ms. Following semantic prime processing, priming occurred at both SOAs. In contrast, no priming occurred at the long SOA following letter-level processing. Of greatest interest, at the short SOA there was priming following the less demanding consonant/vowel task but not following the more attention-demanding letter search task. Hence, semantic activation can occur even when attention is directed to the letter level, provided there are sufficient resources to support this activation. Firing of kaolinite to mullite is an important process in ceramic industry. In the present study, Raman spectroscopy and curve-fitting are utilized for identification of the thermal phases in progressive firing of kaolinite to mullite up to 1300 °C. The results are compared to that observed by XRD. Many natural kaolinites consist of accessory anatase, and this mineral has strong Raman bands. Therefore, the spectra of anatase-free and anatase-containing kaolinites were analyzed. The Raman response is sensitive to the degree of the structural order of the thermal phases. Dehydroxylated kaolinite is detected at 500 °C by the disappearance of the Raman bands of the kaolinite. The metakaolinite at 700 °C and the spinel-type phase at 1000 °C have broad and weak Raman bands due to their short-range and poorly-order structure, respectively. Amorphous silica is observed at 1000 °C by the development of diagnostic broad and weak Raman bands. Mullite and cristobalite are detected at 1300 °C by the appearance of characteristic Raman bands. In firing of anatase-containing kaolinite, progressive thermal transform from anatase to rutile is observed at 1100–1300 °C by the appearance of Raman bands of rutile and by the decreasing of the anatase bands. The results can be applied in using micro-Raman spectroscopy as a non-destructive method for identification of thermal phases in the composition of modern and ancient ceramic.  相似文献

This article describes the development and assessment of a qualitative interview for comprehensively assessing both the process and the outcome of interventions for persons with severe mental illness (SMI). A open-ended 16-question Narrative Evaluation of Intervention Interview (NEII) was developed. The NEII contains questions that ask the participants to evaluate and describe both process and outcome of interventions for persons with SMI. Research participants were 64 persons with SMI attending rehabilitation programs in the community. Analysis of participants' responses to the NEII, using the open step of the grounded theory approach, produced a comprehensive set of themes. Interrater reliabilities for these themes ranged from moderate to high, and these themes differentiated between the three psychosocial interventions. Early thrombolytic therapy gives maximum benefit in acute myocardial infarction. In remote rural areas with no mobile intensive care service there is a significant delay between onset of symptoms and administration of thrombolytic therapy which has a critical impact on revascularization. Thrombolytic therapy with streptokinase 1,500,000 U was given in a primary care rural clinic to 2 patients with evolving myocardial infarction 45-50 minutes from onset of symptoms. In both patients, who were transported to hospital after the therapy, there were clinical signs of reperfusion. There were no complications during treatment or transportation. We conclude that thrombolytic therapy given for evolving myocardial infarction in a rural primary care clinic is possible and safe.  相似文献

Escherichia coli introduced into the hydroponic growing medium of maize plants was detected 48 h later in the shoot. Decapitation of root tips or severing of the plant root system at the root-shoot junction enhanced bacterial internalization. The density of the bacteria in shoots of plants with damaged roots or removed root systems was 27.8 and 23.9 times higher than that in plants with intact roots, respectively. The concentration of viable cells in the hydroponic solution decreased over time from 9.3 x 10(6) CFU/ml at the time of inoculation to 8.5 x 10(1) CFU/ml 4 days thereafter. The number of E. coli cells associated with the roots also decreased with time, but a significant decline appeared only at 4 days postinoculation. At the time of sampling for E. coli presence in the shoot, 10(2) CFU/ml was present in the nutrient solution and 8 x 10(3) CFU/g was associated with the roots. The present study is the first to demonstrate internalization of E. coli via the root in a monocotyledonous plant.  相似文献

Burnout is characterized by emotional exhaustion, physical fatigue, and cognitive weariness, resulting from prolonged exposure to work-related stress. The authors review the accumulated evidence suggesting that burnout and the related concept of vital exhaustion are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular-related events. The authors present evidence supporting several potential mechanisms linking burnout with ill health, including the metabolic syndrome, dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis along with sympathetic nervous system activation, sleep disturbances, systemic inflammation, impaired immunity functions, blood coagulation and fibrinolysis, and poor health behaviors. The association of burnout and vital exhaustion with these disease mediators suggests that their impact on health may be more extensive than currently indicated. Summary Analyzing distributed protocols in various models often involves a careful analysis of the set ofadmissible runs, for which the protocols should behave correctly. In particular, the admissible runs assumed by at-resilient protocol are runs which are fair for all but at mostt processors. In this paper we defineclosed sets of runs, and suggest a technique to prove impossibility results fort-resilient protocols, by restricting the corresponding sets of admissible runs to smaller sets, which are closed, as follows: For each protocolPR and for each initial configurationc, the set of admissible runs ofPR which start fromc defines a tree in a natural way: the root of the tree is the empty run, and each vertex in it denotes a finite prefix of an admissible run; a vertexu in the tree has a sonv iffv is also a prefix of an admissible run, which extendsu by one atomic step.The tree of admissible runs described above may contain infinite paths which are not admissible runs. A set of admissible runs isclosed if for every possible initial configurationc, each path in the tree of admissible runs starting fromc is also an admissible run. Closed sets of runs have the simple combinatorial structure of the set of paths of an infinite tree, which makes them easier to analyze. We introduce a unified method for constructing closed sets of admissible runs by using a model-independent construction of closedschedulers, and then mapping these schedulers to closed sets of runs. We use this construction to provide a unified proof of impossibility of consensus protocols. Shlomo Moran received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from the Technion in 1975 and 1979 resp. In 1979–1981 he was at the University of Minnesota as a visiting research specialist. In 1981 he joined the Computer Science Department at the Technion, where he is now a full professor. In 1985–1986 he visited at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. In 1992–1993 he visited at AT&T Bell Laboratories and in Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica, Amsterdam.
