We propose a new technique, compress-spread forward (CSF), for high-performance wireless streaming from two base stations in parallel. CSF uses multiterminal source coding for efficient source compression and complete complementary sequences for error-free multiple access and synchronization. Recent information-theoretic results show the optimality of dirty-paper coding (DPC) in achieving the full capacity region of the Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channel (BC). This paper presents a DPC based code design for BCs. We consider the case in which there is an individual rate/signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraint for each user. For a fixed transmitter power, we choose the linear transmit precoding matrix such that the SINRs at users are uniformly maximized, thus ensuring the best bit-error rate performance. We start with Cover's simplest two-user Gaussian BC and present a coding scheme that operates 1.44 dB from the boundary of the capacity region at the rate of one bit per real sample (b/s) for each user. We then extend the coding strategy to a two-user MIMO Gaussian BC with two transmit antennas at the base-station and develop the first limit-approaching code design using nested turbo codes for DPC. At the rate of 1 b/s for each user, our design operates 1.48 dB from the capacity region boundary. We also consider the performance of our scheme over a slow fading BC. For two transmit antennas, simulation results indicate a performance loss of only 1.4 dB, 1.64 dB and 1.99 dB from the theoretical limit in terms of the total transmission power for the two, three and four user case, respectively.  相似文献

Data streaming from multiple base stations to a client is recognized as a robust technique for multimedia streaming. However the resulting transmission in parallel over wireless channels poses serious challenges, especially multiple access interference, multipath fading, noise effects and synchronization. Spread spectrum techniques seem the obvious choice to mitigate these effects, but at the cost of increased bandwidth requirements. This paper proposes a solution that exploits complete complementary spectrum spreading and data compression techniques jointly to resolve the communication challenges whilst ensuring efficient use of spectrum and acceptable bit error rate. Our proposed spreading scheme reduces the required transmission bandwidth by exploiting correlation among information present at multiple base stations. Results obtained show 1.75 Mchip/sec (or 25%) reduction in transmission rate, with only up to 6 dB loss in frequency-selective channel compared to a straightforward solution based solely on complete complementary spectrum spreading.  相似文献

In this paper we will investigate the performance of an estimator employing single OFDM reference symbol for timing and frequency offset estimation. We will show how both coarse and fine frequency offset estimation can be performed with this single OFDM reference symbol. The performance of this estimator will be compared with the ML estimator employing OFDM reference symbols of different length for coarse and fine frequency offset estimation. It will be shown that, unlike ML estimator, the estimation range of the analyzed estimator is not constrained.  相似文献

Realistic, complex outdoor environments pose significant challenges for node localization in wireless sensor networks. In spite of the fact that many elegant and clever solutions have been proposed, no robust localization system has emerged. This status quo is because existing solutions work well for single sets of assumptions that, however, do not always hold in complex environments. In this article we review the state of the art for node localization in wireless sensor networks and show how localization protocol composability has the potential to provide the robust solution that is needed. By composing localization protocols in a hierarchy and allowing the execution of multiple localization schemes, robust solutions against any single protocol failure can be built.  相似文献

Improving the quality of healthcare and the prospects of "aging in place" using wireless sensor technology requires solving difficult problems in scale, energy management, data access, security, and privacy. We present AlarmNet, a novel system for assisted living and residential monitoring that uses a two-way flow of data and analysis between the front- and back-ends to enable context-aware protocols that are tailored to residents' individual patterns of living. AlarmNet integrates environmental, physiological, and activity sensors in a scalable heterogeneous architecture. The SenQ query protocol provides real-time access to data and lightweight in-network processing. Circadian activity rhythm analysis learns resident activity patterns and feeds them back into the network to aid context-aware power management and dynamic privacy policies.  相似文献

Recently, there has been considerable interest in noise radar over a wide spectrum of applications, such as through-wall surveillance, tracking, Doppler estimation, polarimetry, interferometry, ground penetrating or subsurface profiling, detection, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging, inverse SAR imaging, foliage penetration imaging etc. Major advantages of using noise in the transmit signal are its inherent immunity from radio frequency and electromagnetic interference, improved spectrum efficiency, and hostile jamming as well as being very difficult to detect. The basic theory of digital signal processing in noise radar design is treated. The theory supports the use of noise waveforms for radar detection and imaging in such applications as covert military surveillance and reconnaissance. It is shown that by using wideband noise waveforms, one can achieve high resolution and reduced range estimation ambiguity. Mutual interference and low probability of interception capabilities of noise radar are also evaluated. The simulation results show the usefulness of the noise radar technology to improve on conventional radars.  相似文献
