2,2-Oxo-1,1 -azobenzene (AZOB), a compound with strong herbicidal activity, was isolated and characterized from a soil supplemented with 2,3-benzoxazolinone (BOA). A parallel experiment with 6-methoxy-2,3-benzoxazolinone (MBOA) yielded AZOB as well as its mono-(MAZOB) and dimethoxy-(DIMAZOB) derivatives. These compounds were produced only in the presence of soil microorganisms, via possible intermediates, I and II, which may dimerize or react with the parent molecule to form the final products. In the case of MBOA, it was shown that demethoxylation precedes the oxidation step. Although BOA and 2,4-dihydroxy-1,4(2H)-benzoxazin-3-one (DIBOA) were leached out of rye residues, there were no detectable amounts of the biotransformation products in the soil. When BOA was mixed with soil and rye residue, either under field conditions or in vitro, AZOB was detected. Levels of free BOA in the soil were greatly reduced by incubation with rye residue. AZOB was more toxic to curly cress (Lepidium sativum L.) and barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crusgatti L.) than either DIBOA or BOA.Journal Article No. 12943 of the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station.  相似文献

The design and implementation of a microprocessor-based two-wire full duplex baseband modem is presented. The modem uses the time compression multiplexing technique in implementing a full duplex digital data transmission over a two-wire facility. The line signal used is a baseband bipolar signal. Measurements have been carried out on two prototypes in the lab, and results on the performance of such a modem are reported.  相似文献

Looking to increase the functionality of current wireless platforms and to improve their quality of service, we have explored the merits of using frequency-reconfigurable antennas as an alternative for multiband antennas. Our study included an analysis of various reconfigurable and multiband structures such as patches, wires, and combinations. Switches, such as radio-frequency microelectromechanical systems (RFMEMS) and p-i-n diodes, were also studied and directly incorporated onto antenna structures to successfully form frequency-reconfigurable antennas.  相似文献

The tensile properties of polystyrene reinforced with short sisal fiber and benzoylated sisal fiber were studied. The influence of fiber length, fiber content, fiber orientation, and ben-zoylation of the fiber on the tensile properties of the composite were evaluated. The ben-zoylation of the fiber improves the adhesion of the fiber to the polystyrene matrix. the benzoylated fiber was analyzed by IR spectroscopy. Experimental results indicate a better compatibility between benzoylated fiber and polystyrene. the benzoylation of the sisal fiber was found to enhance the tensile properties of the resulting composite. The tensile properties of unidirectionally aligned composites show a gradual increase with fiber content and a leveling off beyond 20% fiber loading. The properties were found to be almost independent of fiber length although the ultimate tensile strength shows marginal improvement at 10 mm fiber length. The thermal properties of the composites were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry. Scanning electron microscopy was used to investigate the fiber surface, fiber pullout, and fiber–matrix interface. Theoretical models have been used to fit the experimental mechanical data. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The nature and extent of the modification of starch in quinoa, caused by various processes like cooking and autoclaving of the seeds, drum drying of the flour and extrusion of the grits was investigated by measuring the physico-chemical properties - the water absorption, water solubility, swelling power, viscosity and degree of gelatinisation - of the processed samples. Autoclaved samples showed the lowest degree of gelatinisation (32.5% by DSC) of the starch, while the degree of gelatinisation of the precooked/drum dried samples was found to be 97.4% by DSC method. Higher polymer degradation was observed in cooked samples than in autoclaved samples as seen in the gel chromatographic separation. The water solubility in cooked samples (5.44 to 15.58) and in autoclaved samples (7.02 to 9.64) increased with the process time. In the extrusion process, the moisture content as well as the compression ratio was found to affect the degree of starch modification significantly (p <0.01).  相似文献

Summary Three varieties ofCurcuma longa andC. aromatica were investigated during a growth period of 17 weeks with respect to the content of curcuminoids in the bulbs and fingers. A decrease in pigment production as a function of maturity of the rhizomes was observed. The total content of curcuminoids was equal inC. longa andC. aromatica, but with a slight difference in distribution between the fingers and bulbs in the two species. Taking the biomass into account, the fingers will be more beneficial for the isolation of curcuminoids than the respective bulbs.
Studien über Curcumin und Curcuminoide XXI. Unterschiede des Gehaltes an Curcuminoiden bei Curcuma longa L. und Curcuma aromatica Salisb. aus Indien während einer Saison
Zusammenfassung Drei Typen vonCurcuma longa undC. aromatica wurden während einer Wachstumsperiode von 17 Wochen auf ihren Curcuminoidgehalt in den Knollen und im Wurzelstock untersucht. Eine Abnahme der Pigmentproduktion in Abhängigkeit von dem Entwicklungsstadium der Rhizome wurde festgestellt. Der Gesamtgehalt an Curcuminoiden beiC. longa undC. aromatica war der gleiche, doch bestand ein geringer Unterschied in der Verteilung dieser zwischen Knolle und Wurzelstock bei den beiden Spezies. Bei Betrachtung der Biomasse ist der Wurzelstock für die Isolation von Curcuminoiden besser geeignet als die Knollen.

A powdered mixture of dried herbs, “Panamrutham”, is sold in India for the preparation of “herbal drinking water”. The hot water extract of this herbal mixture gave lipid peroxidation (LPO), cyclo‐oxygenase (COX‐1 and ‐2) enzyme and human tumor cell proliferation inhibitory activities between 25 and 250 μg/mL. The bioassay‐guided purification of the water extract afforded a novel compound (1), along with phenolics (2, 4, 6, and 7) and sesquiterpenoids (3 and 5). The isolates were evaluated for LPO, COX‐1 and ‐2 enzyme and human tumor cell proliferation inhibitory activities. At 25 μg/mL, compounds 1–7 inhibited LPO by 22–73% and COX‐1 and ‐2 enzymes by 3–14% and 14–74%, respectively. Compounds 5 and 6 at 25 μg/mL showed growth inhibition of colon, gastric, lung, breast and central nervous system human tumor cell lines by 60 and 67, 43 and 60, 24 and 64, 34 and 65, 6 and 27%, respectively. Compounds 2, 4 and 7 displayed weak or moderate growth inhibition of colon, gastric and breast human tumor cell lines. This is the first report on the LPO inhibitory activities of compounds 1 and 3–7 and the COX and tumor cell proliferation inhibitory activities of compounds 1, 3–5 and 7.  相似文献

(4‐Ethylphenyl)‐3,5‐ditertiarybutyl‐4‐hydroxybenzylamine, 1‐phenyl‐4‐(3,5‐ditertiarybutyl‐4‐hydroxybenzyl)piperazine, and 1‐(3,5‐ditertiarybutyl‐4‐hydroxybenzyl)piperidine were synthesized and characterized, and their performance in polypropylene copolymer (PPCP) was tested by multiple extrusions in a Brabender plasticorder. The thermooxidative stability of PPCP was assessed by the measurement of oxidative induction time at 200 ± 1°C, and the thermal stability was assessed by observation of the change in the melt flow rate. A comparative study of the synthesized antioxidants with the commercially available antioxidant 2,6‐ditertiarybutyl‐4‐methylphenol was made. The presence of phenolic and amino groups influenced the performance of the antioxidants. Cyclomatrix phosphazene–triazine network polymers were synthesized by co‐curing a blend of tris(2‐allylphenoxy), triphenoxy cyclotriphosphazene (TAP), and tris(2‐allylphenoxy) s‐triazine (TAT) with bis(4‐maleimido phenyl) methane (BMM). The co‐curing of the three‐component resin was investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis using rheometry. The cure kinetics of the Diels–Alder step was studied by examining the evolution of the rheological parameters, such as storage modulus (G′), loss modulus (G″), and complex viscosity (η*), for resins of varying compositions at different temperatures. The curing conformed to an overall second‐order phenomenological equation, taking into account a self‐acceleration effect. The kinetic parameters were evaluated by multiple‐regression analysis. The absence of a definite trend in the cure process with blend composition ratio was attributed to the occurrence of a multitude of competitive reactions whose relative rates depend on the reactant ratio and the concentration of the products formed from the initial phase of reaction. The cure was accelerated by temperature for a given composition, whereas the self‐acceleration became less prominent at higher temperature. Gelation was accelerated by temperature. The gel conversion decreased with increase in maleimide concentration and, for a given composition, it was independent of the cure temperature. The activation energy for the initial reaction and the crosslinking process were estimated for a composition with a maleimide‐to‐allyl ratio of 2 : 1. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
