Prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes in the bacterial flora of integrated fish farming environments of pakistan and Tanzania 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The use of a wide variety of antimicrobials in human and veterinary medicine, including aquaculture, has led to the emergence of antibiotic resistant pathogens. In the present study, bacteria from water, sediments, and fish were collected from fish farms in Pakistan and Tanzania with no recorded history of antibiotic use. The isolates were screened for the presence of resistance genes against various antimicrobials used in aquaculture and animal husbandry. Resistant isolates selected by disk diffusion and genotyped by Southern hybridization were further screened by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and amplicon sequencing. The prominent resistance genes identified encoded tetracycline [tetA(A) and tetA(G)], trimethoprim [dfrA1, dfrA5, dfrA7, dfrA12, and dfrA15], amoxicillin [bla(TEM)], streptomycin [strA-strB], chloramphenicol [cat-1], and erythromycin resistance [mefA]. The int1 gene was found in more than 30% of the bacterial isolates in association with gene cassettes. MAR indices ranged from 0.2 to 1. The bla(NDM-1) gene was not identified in ertapenem resistant isolates. It is hypothesized that integrated fish farming practices utilizing domestic farm and poultry waste along with antibiotic residues from animal husbandry may have contributed to a pool of resistance genes in the aquaculture systems studied. 相似文献

Individual and combined effects of high pressure nitrous oxide (HPN2O), heat, and antimicrobials on the inactivation of Escherichia coli, Listeria innocua, and Bacillus atrophaeus endospores in milk were all evaluated after 20-min treatments. Stand-alone milk treatments with HPN2O (15.2 MPa), heat (45 and 65 °C), or nisin (50 and 150 IU mL?1) resulted in log10 reductions ranging only from 0.1 to 2.1 for E. coli and L. innocua. Combining HPN2O (15.2 MPa) with heat (65 °C) inactivated 6.0 and 5.1 log10 in the vegetative bacteria, respectively. Similarly, reductions of 5.9 and ≥ 6.0 log10 of respective E. coli and L. innocua cells in milk were achieved through a combination of HPN2O (15.2 MPa), heat (65 °C), and nisin (150 IU mL?1). A 2.5 log10 cycle inactivation of spores was obtained by HPN2O, nisin (at both 50 and 150 IU mL?1), and lysozyme (50 μg mL?1) at 85 °C. Combining these processing techniques resulted in significantly greater microbial inactivation (p < 0.05) than the sum of individual reductions from each treatment alone, indicating synergistic effects. HPN2O irrespective of processing temperatures did not cause any occurrence of sub-lethally injured cells or disruption in colloidal stability of milk at 65 and 85 °C (p ≥ 0.05). Currently, the lack of new drug candidates for the treatment of major neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease has intensified the search for drugs that can be repurposed or repositioned for such treatment. Typically, the search focuses on drugs that have been approved and are used clinically for other indications. Kinase inhibitors represent a family of popular molecules for the treatment and prevention of various cancers, and have emerged as strong candidates for such repurposing because numerous serine/threonine and tyrosine kinases have been implicated in the pathobiology of Parkinson’s disease. The composition of liver phospholipids was studied in rats fed for 4 weeks diets containing 0, 100 or 300 mg 13-cis retinoic acid per kg diet. There was a significant decrease in phosphatidylcholine content, whereas the levels of phosphatidylethanolamine were slightly increased in liver phospholipids of rats fed 13-cis retinoic acid. The fatty acid composition of total phospholipids, PC, PE, and PI+PS fractions revealed a general increase in the levels of 18∶2 and 20∶3ω6, whereas the levels of 20∶4ω6 and C22 fatty acids were reduced in most of the hepatic phospholipids isolated from rats fed 13-cis retinoic acid containing diets. A decrease in the double-bond index of fatty acids was also observed in phospholipids of rats fed 13-cis retinoic acid. The data suggest that high levels of 13-cis retinoic acid may possibly be influencing the activities of microsomal desaturating and chain-elongating enzymes in the liver. 相似文献

Two new synthons, Fmoc-L-Arg(biphenyl-4-sulphonyl)-OH ( 8 ) and Fmoc-Arg(4-methoxy-3-t-butylbenzenesulphonyl)-OH ( 14 ), are prepared for the synthesis of arginine-containing peptides. These groups are cleaved by commonly employed trifluoroacetic acid and methanesulphonic acid. Out of the many promising applications of metal hydrides, refrigeration, heat pumping and heat transformation are important. In order to achieve improved performance, a novel three-alloy cycle is proposed in which, for heat input at an intermediate temperature, heat outputs at high temperature and also at warm temperature are obtained in addition to refrigeration. The performance of this cycle using the alloys LaNi4.6Sn0.4, LaNi4.7Al0.3 and MmNi4.5Al0.5 is studied based on thermodynamics and reaction kinetics. The main objective of this work was to reduce barriers that prevent the usage of starch‐based foams by understanding the effect and the sequence of dual‐modification of crosslinked (XL) and acetylated (Ac) starch in one continuous supercritical fluid reactive extrusion (SCFX) process on wetting properties, physicochemical properties, and cellular structure of solid foam. The starch was reacted with epichlorohydrin (EPI) and acetic anhydride (Ac) under alkaline conditions in a twin‐screw extruder in the presence of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC‐CO2). An increase in EPI concentration from 0.00 to 3.00% increased the degree of crosslinking as measured by DSC and confirmed by the quantification of the glucose units in the solution after acid hydrolysis. We observed a reduction of the glucose units from 93.07% for 0.00% EPI to 6.73% when 3.00% EPI was added. With crosslinking/acetylation processing, contact angle was higher for modified starches, indicating that chemical treatments induced dramatic changes in their surface polarity. Compared with native, the contact angle for dual modified starch increased from 43.1° to 91.7° which indicated their lower wettability. The addition of SC‐CO2, EPI, and Ac to the formulation reduced the density of the extrudates and increased the expansion ratio. The average cell size in the extrudate determined by scanning electron microscopy was also found to decrease from 150 to 34 μm by the addition of the two reagents. Moreover, the dual‐modification of starches provided more hardness and adhesiveness to the extrudates than was observed for the unmodified starches. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)‐silica hybrids with exceptionally reduced solubility in water were synthesized. The hybrid xerogels were fabricated through sol‐gel processing of a mixture of PVA and the acid‐catalyzed silica precursor tetraethoxysilane. The effects of varying ratios of PVA and silica precursor on the surface structure, thermal properties, crystallinity, and solubility of the hybrids were investigated. Unlike the highly water‐soluble nature of PVA, all the hybrids displayed considerably reduced solubility in water. This anomalous behavior of PVA in the hybrids can be attributed to the unavailability of its pendant –OH groups. Water‐resistant PVA‐silica hybrids can find applications in various technologies requiring biocompatible systems that are stable in aqueous environments. 相似文献

Recently, autism-related research has focused on the identification of various genes and disturbed pathways causing the genetically heterogeneous group of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The list of autism-related genes has significantly increased due to better awareness with advances in genetic technology and expanding searchable genomic databases. We compiled a master list of known and clinically relevant autism spectrum disorder genes identified with supporting evidence from peer-reviewed medical literature sources by searching key words related to autism and genetics and from authoritative autism-related public access websites, such as the Simons Foundation Autism Research Institute autism genomic database dedicated to gene discovery and characterization. Our list consists of 792 genes arranged in alphabetical order in tabular form with gene symbols placed on high-resolution human chromosome ideograms, thereby enabling clinical and laboratory geneticists and genetic counsellors to access convenient visual images of the location and distribution of ASD genes. Meaningful correlations of the observed phenotype in patients with suspected/confirmed ASD gene(s) at the chromosome region or breakpoint band site can be made to inform diagnosis and gene-based personalized care and provide genetic counselling for families. 相似文献
