The mechanical and thermal properties of interply hybrid carbon fiber (continuous and spun fabric)/phenolic composite materials have been studied. Hybrid carbon/phenolic composites (hybrid CP) with continuous carbon fabric of high tensile, flexural strength and spun carbon fabric of better interlaminar shear strength and lower thermal conductivity are investigated in terms of mechanical properties as well as thermal properties.Through hybridization, tensile strength and modulus of spun type carbon fabric reinforced phenolic composites (spun CP) increased by approximately 28% and 20%, respectively. Hybrid CP also exhibits better interlaminar shear strength than continuous carbon fabric/phenolic composites (continuous CP).The in-plane thermal conductivity of hybrid CP is 4-8% lower than that of continuous CP. As continuous filament type carbon fiber volume fraction increases, the transversal thermal conductivity of hybrid CP decreases.The erosion rate and insulation index were examined using torch test. Spun CP has a higher insulation index than continuous CP and hybrid CP over the entire temperature range. Hybrid CP with higher content of spun fabric exhibits higher insulation index as well as lower erosion rate.  相似文献

The goal of the present study was to investigate the toxicity of biologically prepared small size of silver nanoparticles in human lung epithelial adenocarcinoma cells A549. Herein, we describe a facile method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by treating the supernatant from a culture of Escherichia coli with silver nitrate. The formation of silver nanoparticles was characterized using various analytical techniques. The results from UV-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis show a characteristic strong resonance centered at 420 nm and a single crystalline nature, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the possible bio-molecules responsible for the reduction of silver from silver nitrate into nanoparticles. The particle size analyzer and transmission electron microscopy results suggest that silver nanoparticles are spherical in shape with an average diameter of 15 nm. The results derived from in vitro studies showed a concentration-dependent decrease in cell viability when A549 cells were exposed to silver nanoparticles. This decrease in cell viability corresponded to increased leakage of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), increased intracellular reactive oxygen species generation (ROS), and decreased mitochondrial transmembrane potential (MTP). Furthermore, uptake and intracellular localization of silver nanoparticles were observed and were accompanied by accumulation of autophagosomes and autolysosomes in A549 cells. The results indicate that silver nanoparticles play a significant role in apoptosis. Interestingly, biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles showed more potent cytotoxicity at the concentrations tested compared to that shown by chemically synthesized silver nanoparticles. Therefore, our results demonstrated that human lung epithelial A549 cells could provide a valuable model to assess the cytotoxicity of silver nanoparticles.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to estimate the future medium and large housing needs of low-income renter households of Seoul Metropolitan Region (SMR), and to recommend housing policy responses to these needs. Using demographic methods, this study first projects the total housing needs of SMR, then decomposes them into the needs for different housing sizes by tenure and household expense using the household–housing size matrix. Between 2005 and 2015, approximately 360 000 medium and large rental housing units are needed. We argue that the Korean government should prioritise rental housing policy, and diminish the polarisation in housing conditions between the better off and the worse off.

The authors examined cultural and individual differences in the relation between daily events and daily satisfaction. In a preliminary study, they established cross-cultural equivalence of 50 daily events. In the main study, participants in the United States, Korea, and Japan completed daily surveys on the 50 events and daily satisfaction for 21 days. The multilevel random coefficient model analyses showed that (a) the within-person association between positive events and daily satisfaction was significantly stronger among Asian American, Korean, and Japanese participants than among European American participants and (b) the within-person association between positive events and daily satisfaction was significantly weaker among individuals high in global life satisfaction than among those low in global life satisfaction. The findings demonstrate a weaker effect of positive events on daily well-being among individuals and cultures high in global well-being. A new anionic conjugated polymer containing a fluorene group in the main chain was designed and synthesized from poly(2,7‐(9,9′‐dihexylfluorene)‐5,5′‐bibenzimidazole) (PFBI). The polymer showed strong blue emission with high quantum efficiency (0.64) at 450 nm in MeOH and the dramatic quenching effect by Methyl Viologen (MV2+). The fluorescence‐quenching effect results from the weak complex formation between an anionic polymer and electron acceptors such as bipyridinium derivatives. The linear Stern–Volmer constant (Ksv) was 3.7×105 M?1 for MV2+. Ordered subset expectation–maximization (OSEM) method in positron emission tomography (PET) has been very popular recently. It is an iterative algorithm and provides images with superior noise characteristics compared to conventional filtered backprojection (FBP) algorithms. Due to the lack of smoothness in images in OSEM iterations, however, some type of inter-smoothing is required. For this purpose, the smoothing based on the convolution with the Gaussian kernel has been used in clinical PET practices. In this paper, we incorporated a robust wavelet de-noising method into OSEM iterations as an inter-smoothing tool. The proposed wavelet method is based on a hybrid use of the standard wavelet shrinkage and the robust wavelet shrinkage to have edge preserving and robust de-noising simultaneously. The performances of the proposed method were compared with those of the smoothing methods based on the convolution with Gaussian kernel using software phantoms, physical phantoms, and human PET studies. The results demonstrated that the proposed wavelet method provided better spatial resolution characteristic than the smoothing methods based on the Gaussian convolution, while having comparable performance in noise removal.  相似文献

Any additional loads applied to a damaged structure can aggravate its instability and thus, the impact of successive earthquakes need to be considered. This study proposed a quantitative assessment model for the fragility of a damaged structure subjected to aftershock. Mean period and the strong motion duration were considered as characteristics of earthquake motions. Simulation models of two reinforced concrete structures and one steel structure were selected to examine the applicability of the model. Based on the suggested fragility and residual deformation coefficients, critical earthquake sequences for each structure were identified. The proposed model was efficient in selecting critical earthquake sequences by using the limited number of aftershocks, and these sequences are expected to be useful indicators in the establishment of a retrofit plan according to the predicted structural response and target performance levels.  相似文献

This study examines the development of an automated particle tracking algorithm to predict the hindered Brownian movement of fluorescent nanoparticles within an evanescent wave field created using total internal reflection fluorescent microscopy. The two-dimensional motion of the fluorescent nanoparticles was tracked, with sub-pixel resolution, by fitting the intensity distribution of the particles to a known Gaussian distribution, thus providing the particle center within a single pixel. Spherical yellow-green polystyrene nanoparticles (200, 500, and 1000 nm in diameter) were suspended in deionized water (control), 10 wt% d-glucose, and 10 wt% glycerol solutions, with 1 mM of NaCl added to each. The motion of tracked nanoparticles was compared with the theoretical tangential hindered Brownian motion to estimate particle diameters and fluid viscosity using a nonlinear regression technique. The automatic tracking algorithm was initially validated by comparing the automated results with manually tracked particles, 1 µm in size. Our results showed that both particle size and solution viscosity were accurately predicted from the experimental mean square displacement. Specifically, the results show that the error of particle size prediction is below 10 % and the error of solution viscosity prediction is less than 1 %. The proposed automatic analysis tool could prove to be useful in bio-application fields for examination of single protein tracking, drug delivery, and cytotoxicity. Furthermore, the proposed tool could be useful in microfluidic areas such as particle tracking velocimetry and noninvasive viscosimetry.  相似文献
