Arsenic(V) removal from groundwater using nano scale zero-valent iron as a colloidal reactive barrier material 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
The removal of As(V), one of the most poisonous groundwater pollutants, by synthetic nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI) was studied. Batch experiments were performed to investigate the influence of pH, adsorption kinetics, sorption mechanism, and anionic effects. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Mossbauer spectroscopy were used to characterize the particle size, surface morphology, and corrosion layer formation on pristine NZVI and As(V)-treated NZVI. The HR-TEM study of pristine NZVI showed a core-shell-like structure, where more than 90% of the nanoparticles were under 30 nm in diameter. M?ssbauer spectroscopy further confirmed its structure in which 19% were in zero-valent state with a coat of 81% iron oxides. The XRD results showed that As(V)-treated NZVI was gradually converted into magnetite/maghemite corrosion products over 90 days. The XPS study confirmed that 25% As(V) was reduced to As(III) by NZVI after 90 days. As(V) adsorption kinetics were rapid and occurred within minutes following a pseudo-first-order rate expression with observed reaction rate constants (Kobs) of 0.02-0.71 min(-1) at various NZVI concentrations. Laser light scattering analysis confirmed that NZVI-As(V) forms an inner-sphere surface complexation. The effects of competing anions revealed that HCO3-, H4SiO4(0), and H2PO4(2-) are potential interfering agents in the As(V) adsorption reaction. Ethanol–water (70:30, v/v) extracts from the bran of rice seeds from twenty one pigmented and one nonpigmented rice cultivars were evaluated for antioxidative activities using the following tests: inhibition of peroxidation of linoleic acid; inhibition of peroxidation of rabbit lipid erythrocyte membranes; reduction of potassium ferricyanide, and scavenging of superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicals. With some exceptions, extracts from the pigmented rice seeds had higher antioxidative activity than did the nonpigmented variety. The following pigmented cultivars had the highest antioxidative activities in all tests: Jumlalocal-1, Parnkhari 203, DZ78, LK1-3-6-12-1-1, and Elwee. A significant correlation was also noted between reducing power, inhibition of erythrocyte ghost membrane peroxidation, and superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical scavenging. The results suggest that: (a) ferricyanide reducing power might be a useful and simple index for large-scale evaluation of antioxidative potencies of natural products present in rice; (b) pigmented rice varieties with high antioxidative activities provide a source of antioxidants and a genetic resource to develop new health-promoting rice cultivars. 相似文献

Human lipocortin-I (hLC1), when was expressed as a secretory product in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, was cleaved to a significant extent by endoproteolytic processing, resulting in the accumulation of des1-26-hLC1 in the culture supernatant. This proteolytic cleavage was inhibited significantly by the addition of high concentrations of l-arginine and l-lysine, with a resultant marked improvement in the yield of intact hLC1. When the hLC1 was expressed in S. cerevisiae mutants deficient in one or two of the following endoproteases, Kex2p, Mkc7p and Yps1p (Yap3p), the mutants exhibited no reduction in the extent of hLC1 proteolysis, indicating that these endoproteases are not involved in the proteolytic cleavage of hLC1. 相似文献

A new nitrogen removal process (up-flow sludge blanket and aerobic filter, USB-AF) was proposed and tested with real sewage. In the USB reactor, the larger part of influent organic and nitrogen matters were removed, and ammonia was effectively oxidized in the subsequent aerobic filter. The role of the aerobic filter was to convert ammonia into nitrate, an electron acceptor that could convert soluble organic matters into volatile suspended solid (VSS) in the USB. The accumulated as well as influent VSS in the USB was finally degraded to fermented products that were another good carbon source for denitrification. Total COD, settleable COD and soluble COD in the raw sewage were 325, 80 and 140 mg/l, respectively. Most unsettleable COD as well as some SCOD in the influent was successfully removed in the USB. TCOD removal in the anoxic filter was by denitrification with the recycled nitrate. Low COD input to the aerobic filter could increase nitrification efficiency, reduce the start-up period and save the aeration energy in the USB-AF system. About 95% of ammonia was nitrified in the aerobic filter with no relation to the influent ammonia concentration. Denitrification efficiency of the recycled nitrate in the anoxic filter was about 85, 83, and 72% at recycle ratios of 100, 200, and 300%, respectively. A process simulation model was constructed for a 2 ton h−1 incinerator. The simulation model was designed to provide system performance parameters according to various operating conditions. In accommodating the wide variation of quality and composition of input wastes, the plant operating parameters such as amount of excess air, preheated air temperature, waste feed rate and primary air distribution over the stoker, etc. must be carefully controlled. The proposed model calculates operating variables of each submodule, by employing steady-state thermal and material balance equations. Combustion of waste bed, and its radiative heat transfer in the combusion chamber are considered. The calculated results of the combustion chamber performance are evaluated, in terms of temperature, locations and width of the flame band, and mean residence time in the secondary combustion chamber. The number of frequency channels specified for IEEE 802.15.4 low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPANs) does not suffice to operate a variety of collocated WPAN applications that the standard is targeting. To overcome this limit, we introduce virtual channel, a novel concept to increase the number of available channels by efficiently managing given spectral and temporal resources. A virtual channel is created by scheduling a superframe and selecting a logical channel. This extends the notion of a channel from spectral domain to spectral and temporal domain. Specifically, we propose a superframe scheduler using throughput estimation (SUTE) of the IEEE 802.15.4 carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA). In addition, nearest vacancy search (NEVS) is proposed, both of which are for temporal efficiency of the collocation. For both spectral and temporal efficiency, virtual channel selector (VCS) is proposed. The simulation results show that a remarkable improvement on the collocation efficiency of IEEE 802.15.4 can be achieved by our proposals. Moreover, this study also reveals the fundamental drawback of the current standard in terms of the collocation efficiency that the beacon interval and superframe duration are adjustable only by exponent parameters. 相似文献

The power spectral density of a signal can be estimated most accurately by using a window with a narrow bandwidth and large sidelobe attenuation. Conventional windows generally control these characteristics by only one parameter, so there is a trade-off problem: if the bandwidth is reduced, the sidelobe attenuation is also reduced. To overcome this problem, we propose using a Butterworth window with two control parameters for power spectral density estimation and analyze its characteristics. Simulation results demonstrate that the sidelobe attenuation and the 3 dB bandwidth can be controlled independently. Thus, the trade-off problem between resolution and spectral leakage in the estimated power spectral density can be overcome. 相似文献
