The effect of peripheral catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibition with entacapone on striatal uptake of 6-[18F]fluoro-L-dopa (FDOPA) was studied with PET both without and with entacapone in fifteen advanced parkinsonian patients and six healthy controls. Entacapone significantly enhanced the fraction of unmetabolized FDOPA in plasma from 16% to about 50% at 80 minutes after FDOPA injection in all subjects. The striatal to occipital ratios and the striatal FDOPA uptake, expressed as a modified decarboxylation coefficient (k3R0), was significantly increased in healthy controls, whereas in parkinsonian patients the increase was significant only in the caudate. On the other hand, the influx constant (Ki) decreased significantly in the caudate and putamen in parkinsonian patients; in healthy controls the Ki remained virtually unchanged. Effective peripheral COMT inhibition markedly increased the fraction of FDOPA in plasma and thus its availability in the brain for decarboxylation both in patients and control subjects. However, the change in striatal FDOPA uptake was modest in the advanced parkinsonian patients as compared to that in control subjects, because of the advanced disease, decreased storage capacity, or both.  相似文献

Methylazoxymethanol acetate (MAM) is a substance that inhibits migration of neurons in the embryonic brain. After intraperitoneal injection of two different doses of MAM to pregnant rats, microcephaly with or without complete development of the cerebral cortex was observed in every litter. High MAM doses (30 mg/kg) resulted in the lack of superficial layers (II-IV) of the cerebral cortex when the deep layers (V, VI) were seen. The claustrum was present but composed of loosely packed, medium-size, triangular or fusiform neurons with anarchic oriented long axes. After administration of low MAM doses (14 mg/kg) two different parts (medial and lateral) of the insular claustrum were observed. Our results suggest that neurons of the insular claustrum create two different subpopulations of cells, which were similar to that observed in primitive insectivore (e.g., hedgehog), but fuse in development.  相似文献

Conducting polymers such as polypyrrole (PPy) can be deposited on various substrates to obtain conductive electroactive coatings. While electrochemical coatings are generally considered to be more effective, chemical coatings are more industrially suitable, especially on complex substrates. In this work, we aimed to explore the electro-chemo-mechanical response of conductive fiber scaffolds (CFS) prepared by coating PPy (chemically) on glucose-gelatin nanofibre scaffolds. Electroactivity was readily observed in both aqueous and propylene carbonate solutions of lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, with mainly anion activity in both cases. A higher actuation response was achieved in the aqueous solutions with strain in the range of 1.2% and stress in the range of 3 kPa. Under both cyclic voltammetry and square wave potential steps driving, stable actuation for over 100 cycles was maintained. In addition to actuation, the CFS samples exhibited concurrent sensory properties, in sensing current densities and mechanical load. The PPy-coated CFS material functioning as both an actuator and a sensor is envisaged to have potential applications in smart materials, soft robotics or e-skin. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Remote sensing based biomass estimates in Arctic areas are usually produced using coarse spatial resolution satellite imagery, which is incapable of capturing the fragmented nature of tundra vegetation communities. We mapped aboveground biomass using field sampling and very high spatial resolution (VHSR) satellite images (QuickBird, WorldView-2 and WorldView-3) in four different Arctic tundra or peatland sites with low vegetation located in Russia, Canada, and Finland. We compared site-specific and cross-site empirical regressions. First, we classified species into plant functional types and estimated biomass using easy, non-destructive field measurements (cover, height). Second, we used the cover/height-based biomass as the response variable and used combinations of single bands and vegetation indices in predicting total biomass. We found that plant functional type biomass could be predicted reasonably well in most cases using cover and height as the explanatory variables (adjusted R2 0.21–0.92), and there was considerable variation in the model fit when the total biomass was predicted with satellite spectra (adjusted R2 0.33–0.75). There were dissimilarities between cross-site and site-specific regression estimates in satellite spectra based regressions suggesting that the same regression should be used only in areas with similar kinds of vegetation. We discuss the considerable variation in biomass and plant functional type composition within and between different Arctic landscapes and how well this variation can be reproduced using VHSR satellite images. Overall, the usage of VHSR images creates new possibilities but to utilize them to full potential requires similarly more detailed in-situ data related to biomass inventories and other ecosystem change studies and modelling.  相似文献

Inspired from the recent developments in theories of non-wellfounded syntax (coinductively defined languages) and of syntax with binding operators, the structure of algebras of wellfounded and non-wellfounded terms is studied for a very general notion of signature permitting both simple variable binding operators as well as operators of explicit substitution. This is done in an extensional mathematical setting of initial algebras and final coalgebras of endofunctors on a functor category. In the non-wellfounded case, the fundamental operation of substitution is more beneficially defined in terms of primitive corecursion than coiteration.  相似文献

The advent of proof-carrying code has generated significant interest in reasoning about low-level languages. It is widely believed that low-level languages with jumps must be difficult to reason about because of being inherently non-modular. We argue that this is untrue. We take it seriously that, unlike statements of a high-level language, pieces of low-level code are multiple-entry and multiple-exit. And we define a piece of code as consisting of either a single labelled instruction or a finite union of pieces of code. Thus we obtain a compositional natural semantics and a matching Hoare logic for a basic low-level language with jumps. By their simplicity and intuitiveness, these are comparable to the standard natural semantics and Hoare logic of While. The Hoare logic is sound and complete wrt the semantics and allows for compilation of proofs of the Hoare logic of While.  相似文献

Recently there has been a great deal of interest in higher-order syntax which seeks to extend standard initial algebra semantics to cover languages with variable binding. The canonical example studied in the literature is that of the untyped λ-calculus which is handled as an instance of the general theory of binding algebras, cf. Fiore et al. [13]. Another important syntactic construction is that of explicit substitutions which are used to model local definitions and to implement reduction in the λ-calculus. The syntax of a language with explicit substitutions does not form a binding algebra as an explicit substitution may bind an arbitrary number of variables. Thus explicit substitutions are a natural test case for the further development of the theory and applications of syntax with variable binding. This paper shows that a language containing explicit substitutions and a first-order signature Σ is naturally modelled as the initial algebra of the Id + F Σ∘_ +_ ∘ _ endofunctor. We derive a similar formula for adding explicit substitutions to the untyped λ-calculus and then show these initial algebras provide useful datatypes for manipulating abstract syntax by implementing two reduction machines. We also comment on the apparent lack of modularity in syntax with variable binding as compared to first-order languages.  相似文献

1. A new specific protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor, Ro 31-7549, was used to explore the mechanisms by which particulate stimuli, quartz and chrysotile, stimulate human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) to produce reactive oxygen metabolites (ROM). Also soluble stimuli, formyl-Methionyl-Leucyl-Phenylalanine (fMLP) and phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) were used. 2. Ro 31-7549 inhibited chrysotile-induced free intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) elevations but did not have an effect on quartz-induced elevations of [Ca2+]i. Both quartz and chrysotile induced production of ROM were partially inhibited by Ro 31-7549. fMLP-induced elevation of [Ca2+]i was inhibited by Ro 31-7549 whereas PMA did not affect [Ca2+]i. Ro 31-7549 strongly inhibited fMLP-induced ROM production, and completely abolished that induced by PMA. 3. These result suggest that PKC may have an important role in the activation of PMNL to produce ROM by particulate and soluble stimuli. However, the inhibition of chrysotile-, but not of quartz-induced [Ca2+]i elevations by Ro 31-7549 provides evidence that both PKC-dependent and -independent mechanisms may play a role in the activation of human leukocytes to produce ROM.  相似文献
