Arsenate removal from water by a weak-base anion exchange fibrous adsorbent   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A weak-base anion exchange fiber named FVA with primary amino groups for selective and rapid removal of arsenate species was prepared by means of electron irradiation induced liquid phase graft polymerization of N-vinylformamide onto polyethylene coated polypropylene fibers and by the subsequent alkaline hydrolysis of amide group on the grafted polymer chains. Two types of FVA were prepared. One was a non-woven cloth type named FVA-c for the batch-mode study, which clarified that uptake of arsenate species decreases with an increase in pH, and chloride and sulfate do not strongly interfere with uptake of arsenate species different from conventional anion exchange resins based on crosslinked polystyrene matrices. The other was a filamentary type one named FVA-f used in the column-mode study, which clarified that arsenate species were successfully removed from neutral pH arsenate solutions containing 1.0-99 mg of As/L at feed flow rates of 100-1050 h(-1) in space velocity (SV). The most important findings are that the 1% breakthrough point in uptake from the arsenate solution containing 1.0mg of As/L at the high feed flow rate of 1050h(-1) in SV was as large as 4670 bed volumes, giving the 1% breakthrough capacity of 0.298 mmol/g of FVA-f. Adsorbed arsenate was able to be quantitatively eluted with 1M hydrochloric acid and FVA-f was simultaneously regenerated. Then, the repeated use of FVA-f was possible.  相似文献

Neural prostheses for restoration of limb movement in paralyzed and amputee patients tend to be complex systems. Subjective intuition and trial-and-error approaches have been applied to the design and clinical fitting of simple systems with limited functionality. These approaches are time consuming, difficult to apply in larger scale, and not applicable to limbs under development with more anthropomorphic motion and actuation. The field of neural prosthetics is in need of more systematic methods, including tools that will allow users to develop accurate models of neural prostheses and simulate their behavior under various conditions before actual manufacturing or clinical application. Such virtual prototyping would provide an efficient and safe test-bed for narrowing the design choices and tuning the control parameters before actual clinical application. We describe a software environment that we have developed to facilitate the construction and modification of accurate mathematical models of paralyzed and prosthetic limbs and simulate their movement under various neural control strategies. These simulations can be run in real time with a stereoscopic display to enable design engineers and prospective users to evaluate a candidate neural prosthetic system and learn to operate it before actually receiving it.  相似文献

According to a recent study, Fe-based glassy alloys are expected good soft-magnetic properties such as high saturation magnetization and lower coercive force. We focused on Fe-based glassy alloys and have succeeded in developing novel glassy Fe97?x?yPxByNb2Cr1 (x = 5–13, y = 7–15) alloys for an inductor material. The glassy alloy series of Fe97?x?yPxByNb2Cr1 (x = 5–13, y = 7–15) have high glass-forming ability with the large critical thickness of 110–150 μm and high Bs of 1.25–1.35 T. The glassy alloy powder with chemical composition Fe77P10.5B9.5Nb2Cr1 exhibits an excellent spherical particle shape related to the lower melting point and liquid phase point. In addition, Fe–P–B–Nb–Cr powder/resin composite core has much lower core loss of 653–881 kW/m3, which is approximately 1/3 lower than the conventional amorphous Fe–Si–B–Cr powder/resin composite core and 1/4 lower than the conventional crystalline Fe–Si–Cr powder/resin composite core due to the lower coercive force of 2.5–3.1 A/m. Based on above results, the glassy Fe77P10.5B9.5Nb2Cr1 alloy powder enable to achieve ultra-high efficient and high quality products in a commercial inductor. In fact, the surface mounted inductor using Fe–P–B–Nb–Cr powder/resin exhibits the high efficiency of approximately 2.0% compared with the conventional inductors made of the crystalline Fe–Si–Cr powder/resin composite core.  相似文献

We investigated CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 glass partially crystallized with molybdenum particles as nucleating agents. Microstructure of the material was characterized as a house-of-cards structure composed of plate-like crystals. Microcracks propagated along the crystal plane parallel to the double layer of SiO4/AlO4 tetrahedrons separated by layers of calcium atoms. To investigate the fracture behavior of the hexagonal CaAl2Si2O8 crystals, molecular dynamics simulations were performed, which demonstrated that a crack can be easily triggered by shear deformation along the calcium layer. Additionally, once a crack was generated in the calcium layer, it propagated rapidly, whereas the crack perpendicular to the calcium layer hardly propagated. This simulated behavior is consistent with the experimentally observed cleavage behavior of the hexagonal CaAl2Si2O8 crystal. The experimental and simulation results effectively explained the non-elastic fracture behavior of the material.  相似文献

For the primary coolant piping of PWRs in Japan, cast duplex stainless steel, which is excellent in terms of strength, corrosion resistance and weldability, has conventionally been used. Cast duplex stainless steel contains the ferrite phase in the austenite matrix, and thermal aging after long-term service is known to decrease fracture toughness. Therefore, we evaluated the integrity of the primary coolant piping for an initial PWR plant in Japan by means of elastic plastic fracture mechanics. The evaluation results show that the crack will not grow into an unstable fracture and the integrity of the piping will be secure, even when such through-wall crack length is assumed to be as large as the fatigue crack length grown for a service period of up to 60 years.  相似文献

The aluminum (Al) alloys 6063-T5 and T4 were friction-stir welded at different tool rotation speeds (R), and then distributions of the microstructure and hardness were examined in these welds. The maximum temperature of the welding thermal cycle rose with increasing R values. The recrystallized grain size of the weld increased exponentially with increasing maximum temperature. The relationship between the grain size and the maximum temperature satisfied the static grain-growth equation. In the as-welded condition, 6063-T5 Al was softened around the weld center, whereas 6063-T4 Al showed homogeneous hardness profiles. Different R values did not result in significant differences in the hardness profile in these welds, except for the width of the softened region in the weld of 6063-T5 Al. Postweld aging raised the hardness in most parts of the welds, but the increase in hardness was small in the stir zone produced at the lower R values. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations detected a similar distribution of the strengthening precipitates in the grain interiors and the presence of a precipitation-free zone (PFZ) adjacent to the grain boundaries in all the welds. Microstructural analyses suggested that the small increase in hardness in the stir zone produced at the lower R values was caused by an increase in the volume fraction of PFZs.  相似文献

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) for two binary systems of 1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy) ethane+2-methyl-2-propanol and pentane+1,1,2,2-tetrafluoro-1-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)ethane system have been measured at 101.3 kPa. The measurements were made in an equilibrium still, developed in a previous study, with circulation of both the vapor and liquid phases. The binary isobaric systems exhibit minimum boiling azeotropes. The thermodynamic consistencies of the experimental data were good by the Van Ness et al. and Herington methods. The experimental data for the binary systems investigated were correlated with activity coefficient equations. The nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) equation yielded a good correlation of activity coefficients.  相似文献

Various morphonuclear studies by digital image analysis have successfully been applied to quantify the nuclear morphology, including chromatin distribution pattern, in cytology of various organs; however, the majority of past reports have not shown correlation between the quantitative data by digital image analysis and cytological findings in practical diagnosis. In this report, we present the usefulness of morphological abstraction to combine the objective data and subjective observation in cytological diagnosis. Randomly selected, 100 cells in each Papanicolaou-stained ABC smear samples of 39 benign and malignant thyroid tumor cases were studied. Gray-level image data provided seven parameters for nuclear size, four parameters for nuclear shape, and 16 parameters showing the nuclear chromatin patterns from high-dimensional texture analysis of using co-occurrence and run-length matrices. To statistically abstract nuclear morphology, factor analysis was used. Factor analysis classified morphological nuclear characters as abstraction parameter into five abstract parameters composed of nuclear size, shape, heterogeneity, and contrast and homogeneity of chromatin pattern. The nuclei of papillary carcinoma showed larger size, more irregular shape, and higher contrast of chromatin pattern than those of the benign group. The follicular carcinomas have larger nucleus in each cell and more monotonous chromatin pattern among cells in each case than those of the benign group. Morphological abstraction by morphometry with factor analysis may provide a practical approach to the detection of the underlying characteristics of nuclear morphology in aspiration biopsy cytology.  相似文献

“Green Chemistry” has become a subject of increasing interest in recent years. The goal of efforts in this area is to develop environmentally friendly methods and processes to replace traditional reactions that use organic solvents, consume much energy, and generate undesirable by-products and/or waste. Utilization of renewable resources is an important component of Green Chemistry. Fats and oils represent one such resource. They can give rise to many types of surfactants and lipids that can modify properties of boundary phases between different phases. Thus, phase-transfer catalysts (PTC) based on surfactants or lipids have been reported to be useful in reactions such as oxidation and hydration reactions and in glycidyl ether formation. Another approach to satisfying Green Chemistry requirements is the recovery and recycling of reactants and/or substrates used. In the preparation of alkyl glyceryl ethers, the intermediate 1,3-dioxolane compounds prepared by addition of acetone to alkyl glycidyl ethers can be hydrolyzed to regenerate reusable acetone. Other examples of methodologies based on surfactants or lipids are summarized, and their potential contribution to Green Chemistry is discussed.  相似文献
