Impact of particles of a granular material on a hard surface

Sorption-Chromatographic Recovery of 103Pd from Irradiated Rhodium

Sorption recovery of ¹⁰³Pd from irradiated rhodium was studied with a series of chelating resins and strongly basic anion exchangers (VPK-14K, VPK, VP-A, ANKB-1, -7, -10, and -35, AV-16, -17, and -27, and Amberlite IRA-400). Chromatographic separation of ¹⁰³Pd from ^102m Rh was performed using 1-2 M HCl as an eluent. To estimate the elution conditions, the palladium distribution coefficients were determined under static condition as influenced by the HCl concentration. The distribution coefficients of palladium between concentrated HCl and ANKB-10, VP-14K, and Amberlite IRA-400 are the lowest. In the dynamic experiments, the maximum recovery was observed on Amberlite IRA-400 (91%), ANKB-10 (57%), and VP-14K (68%). Amberlite IRA-400 was suggested for sorption recovery of ¹⁰³Pd. This isotope with the ^102m Rh content lower than 0.002% can be recovered on small columns (3-5 ml) from 1-2 g of irradiated rhodium.

As shown in this work, antisera obtained after the immunization of animals with vaccines, prepared from Salmonella minnesota strain R595 (Re mutant) or Escherichia coli O14 having enterobacterial common antigen (ECA), as well as human antisera with elevated titers of antibodies to Re glycolipid or to LPS O14 (ECA), inhibited the development of experimental intestinal dysbacteriosis in white mice, induced by the administration of ampyox in large doses. The degree of the inhibiting action of the antisera was proportional to antibody titers, which was indicative of the fact that antibodies possibly played some role in the regulation of the amount of intestinal microflora.

Prediction of maximum oxygen uptake during physical exercise on bicycle ergometer

Possibilities to predict maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) during exercising on bicycle ergometer using the Russian Rating Perceived Exertion (RPE) was studied. Results of examination of 13 athletes demonstrate the possibility of predicting individual and group average VO2max on the basis of data from submaximum testing and the empirical formulas from the value of VO2max registered at RPE numbers 13 and 15. These VO2max values can serve as markers for assessing the dynamics of physical performance.     

Electrohydrodynamic flow between parallel dielectric channels

Steady, accelerated, and pulsating electro-dynamic flows in a plane dielectric channel are considered, along with Couette flow. It is shown that for these types of electrohydrodynamic flows the effect is concentrated in a thin layer near the walls, which can considerably change the friction stress on the walls. Some exact solutions of the energy equation are obtained.
