Summary. The well known solutions for the Green function have a form which cannot be used directly in the degenerate case of equal roots. A simple algebraic procedure is described which allows us to derive new formulae for the Green function, which are valid in the case of equal roots. The case of an annular loading is considered in some detail. It is shown that the derived results are valid for z positive as well as z negative.  相似文献

Shear Bombs in Fibre Composites Despite an optimum external shape non‐load adapted internal fibre orientation can lead to the formation of shear cracks where crossing tension‐compression principal stress trajectories create localized shear peaks. Trees are subject to those failure because they cannot re‐arrange their fibres after wood formation. Bones can adjust their micro‐structure to changing load conditions and in this way can better control shear failure. The engineer working with fibre composites should be alert to avoid fibre arrangements not following the force flow. Localized shear zones may also form near notches similar to normal notch stresses, however they are not always situated at the contour line of the notch.  相似文献

Microrheology can be used for high-throughput screening of the rheological properties of sample libraries of complex fluids. Two passive techniques are particularly suitable: video microscopy and diffusing-wave spectroscopy. The techniques complement each other very well and can be applied to samples that offer different experimental challenges. We offer a thorough analysis of the strengths and limitations of microrheology with the emphasis on high-throughput applications. To illustrate the potential of microrheology, results are presented for two representative cases: the rheological screening of aqueous solutions of a block copolypeptide library and the rheological phase diagram of a water/surfactant/salt system.  相似文献

Birnessites containing Na, K or Li in the interlayer have been prepared by oxidation of Mn(II) cations with H2O2 in a basic medium with different alkaline cation/Mn molar ratios. The solids prepared have been characterised by elemental chemical analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal analyses (differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analysis), FT-IR spectroscopy and surface texture assessment by adsorption of N2 at –196°C. Crystalline birnessites are obtained for A/Mn ratios (A = K, Li) larger than 3.4, but MnO(OH) has been also identificed when such a ratio is smaller than 3.4. Ion exchange is topotactic, but is not complete for exchanging Na, K, or Mg for pre-existing Li. The solids are stable up to 400°C, and formation of spinels and solids with tunnel structures is observed at this temperature. Li-containing birnessites are transformed to LiMn2O4 spinel at 400°C, and co-crystallization of bixbyte (Mn2O3) is observed at higher temperatures. Bixbyte and cryptomelane are formed at 500°C for the K-containing birnessites.  相似文献

The excavation of soil for the construction of basements or cut-and-cover tunnels results in ground movements. One particular concern is that the excavation-induced lateral soil movements may adversely affect any nearby pile foundation. The lateral loads imposed by the soil movements induce bending moments and deflections in the pile, which may lead to structural distress and failure. This paper presents the results of an actual full-scale instrumented study that was carried to examine the behavior of an existing pile due to nearby excavation activities resulting from the construction of a 16 m deep cut-and-cover tunnel. The pile was located 3 m behind a 0.8 m thick diaphragm wall. Excavation to the formation level that was 16 m below the ground surface resulted in a maximum lateral pile movement of 28 mm. A simplified numerical procedure based on the finite-element method was used to analyze the pile response. Generally, the theoretical predictions were in reasonable agreement with the measured results.  相似文献

A glass-ceramic in the K2O-MgO-Al2O3-MgF2-SiO2 system was prepared through the sol-gel and alkaline precipitation routes. The powders were hot pressed into workable discs. The glass-ceramic was found to be machinable with conventional tools. Its physical and mechanical properties compare favourably with commercial macor. A dependence of flexure strength on microstructure is also indicated.  相似文献
