Uniterm low-capacity nuclear power plant

The results of development work on an innovative low-capacity nuclear power plant (LCNPP) Uniterm together with substantiation of the need for a technical design of a reactor system and the basic design of the power plant are presented. The results of the work are used to determine the power range of the power generating unit where the main consumer qualities are guaranteed to be attained. Reactive electric-discharge sintering of TiN-TiB2

Powder mixtures based on titanium and its dihydrides are sintered by electric discharge in a certain current mode to produce TiN + TiB₂ composites. It is established that the use of tetragonal titanium hydride as the starting material results in the complete synthesis leading to a TiN + TiB₂ composite. The higher shrinkage rate results from the higher purity of titanium dihydride, which, in its turn, increases the partial pressure of hydrogen in the reaction area and the reaction rate. Tetragonal titanium hydride is more preferable than cubic hydride and metal titanium. The microstructure of alloys resulting from the sintering of hydride-based mixtures is more homogenous: it includes equiaxial grains with the mean size of about 1 µm.     

Use of waterless molding mixtures as a substitute for the traditional sandy-argillaceous mixtures

In the last years, there is carried out an intensive search for new molding mixtures capable of replacing sand-argillaceous mixtures whose properties have already been well studied. Unfortunately, the majority of them form a mold in the course of the hardening of a bonding agent, which requires creating a complex system for the regeneration of the used sand. In this connection, we investigated a waterless molding mixture with the use of organobentonite as the binder, which does not require any changes in the technological process of green-sand molding. The influence of the amount and composition of the solvent on the properties of waterless mixtures is estimated.     

Structure and mechanical properties of a nonmagnetic high-nitrogen corrosion-resistant 05Kh22AG15N8M2F cast steel produced by high-gradient directional solidification

The structure and properties of an austenitic high-nitrogen corrosion-resistant 05Kh22AG15N8M2F cast steel produced by high-gradient directional solidification (HGDS) and equiaxed-grain solidification (ES) have been studied and compared. In contrast to ES, HGDS allows one to substantially decrease the degree of dendritic segregation of alloying elements, to eliminate porosity, and to increase the strength and plasticity of the steel.     

Effects of arylthio-and arylseleno(methoxy)methanes on acid corrosion of CT 3 steel

The effects of various arylthio-and arylseleno(methoxy)methanes on corrosion of CT3 steel in sulfuric and hydrochloric acid solutions were studied by gravimetric and voltammetric methods. Some compounds of theses classes were found to be effective inhibitors of the acid corrosion of CT3 steel. The presence of the-X-CH₂-O-CH₃ groups (X = S or Se) in aromatic amines and their derivatives enhanced their inhibitive properties. However, because these groups are highly hydrophobic, the molecules of inhibitors should contain other fragments that ensure sufficient solubility. Original Russian Text ? I.N. Chernyad’ev, A.B.
