Algorithms have been presented in the literature to find the optimal sequencing of jobs for a two-machine flow shop. We extend the results to a labor limited situation where only a single server is available and switching times are involved in moving the worker from one machine to the other. We present the theoretical results needed for the development of the algorithm, the algorithm, and an example problem solved using the algorithm.  相似文献

In this paper we report on the fabrication and characterization of SrHfO(3):Ce ceramics. Powders were prepared by solid-state synthesis using metal oxides and carbonates. X-ray diffraction measurements showed that phase-pure SrHfO(3) is formed at 1200°C. Inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy confirmed the purity and composition of each batch. SrHfO(3) exhibits several phase changes in the solid, but this does not appear to be detrimental to the ceramics. Microprobe experiments showed uniform elemental grain composition, whereas aluminum added as charge compensation for trivalent cerium congregated at grain boundaries and triple points. Radioluminescence spectra revealed that the light yield decreases when the concentration of excess Sr increases. The decrease in the light yield may be related to the change of Ce(3+) into Ce(4+) ions. For stoichiometric SrHfO(3):Ce, the light yield is about four times that of bismuth germanate (BGO), the conventional benchmark, indicating great potential for many scintillator applications.  相似文献

An organic molecular single-electron transistor (SET) based on a tetracene quantum dot has been modeled and employed for sensing of chlorine gas, within the framework of density functional theory. The sensing behavior of the SET is estimated through a charge-stability diagram and total energy as a function of gate potential (TE vs. Vg) for varying distances of chlorine from the SET quantum dot, which could be used as an electronic fingerprint for detection. The better sensing ability, high power efficiency and large operational temperature range of tetracene SET, in comparison to conventional sensors, makes it a very powerful candidate for a chlorine gas sensor.  相似文献

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are found in all biological fluids, providing potential for the identification of disease biomarkers such as colorectal cancer (CRC). EVs are heavily glycosylated with specific glycoconjugates such as tetraspanins, integrins, and mucins, reflecting the characteristics of the original cell offering valuable targets for detection of CRC. We report here on europium-nanoparticle (EuNP)-based assay to detect and characterize different surface glycoconjugates of EVs without extensive purification steps from five different CRC and the HEK 293 cell lines. The promising EVs candidates from cell culture were clinically evaluated on small panel of serum samples including early-stage (n = 11) and late-stage (n = 11) CRC patients, benign condition (n = 11), and healthy control (n = 10). The majority of CRC cell lines expressed tetraspanin sub-population and glycovariants of integrins and conventional tumor markers. The subpopulation of CD151 having CD63 expression (CD151CD63) was significantly (p = 0.001) elevated in early-stage CRC (8 out of 11) without detecting any benign and late-stage samples, while conventional CEA detected mostly late-stage CRC (p = 0.045) and with only four early-stage cases. The other glycovariant assays such as CEACon-A, CA125WGA, CA 19.9Ma696, and CA 19.9Con-A further provided some complementation to the CD151CD63 assay. These results indicate the potential application of CD151CD63 assay for early detection of CRC patients in human serum.  相似文献

An attempt was taken to synthesize two types of polyaniline (PANI) with and without solvent followed by drying in air and vacuum oven conditions resulting different morphologies. The PANIs were prepared by chemical oxidative polymerization and studied with respect to their morphological features. Scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X‐ray diffractometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy techniques were used for the characterization studies. The PANI synthesized with a solvent had a mixed morphology (fibrillar and granular), whereas PANI synthesized without a solvent had only a granular morphology. The direct‐current electrical conductivities of the samples were evaluated with an electrometer. We observed that the PANIs with mixed morphology (with solvent) were more electrically conducting than those with a single morphology (without solvent). On drying in vacuo, the conductivity of PANI decreased from 3.3 × 10?2 to 0.3 × 10?2 S/cm with solvent treatment, whereas it decreased from 0.1 × 10?2 to 0.3 × 10?3 S/cm without solvent treatment. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of multi-ions (Mg2+, SiO44-, Zn2+, Cu2+) doping on the properties of carbonated hydroxyapatite (CHA) prepared by a wet chemical method has been investigated. Different combinations of ions were doped into the CHA and the as-synthesized compacts were sintered at 900?°C prior to body characterization. It was found that regardless of ions doping, the lattice structure of the CHA was not disrupted. In addition, secondary phases were not detected for all the multi-ions doped samples. The XRD and FTIR results further confirmed the presences of a B-Type CHA in the sintered samples. The XRD analysis revealed that the lattice parameters (c/a ratio) increased with dopant addition and resulted in a smaller crystallite size. The FESEM examination also showed the presences of smaller grain size for the multi-ions doped CHA samples thus indicating that the doping was beneficial in suppressing grain coarsening in carbonated hydroxyapatite.  相似文献

High oxygen permeability with optimal selectivity of the membrane is required for advancement in air separation membrane technology. Zeolite 4A-PDMS composite membranes were prepared by incorporation of Zeolite 4A nanoscale crystals during the polymerization process of PDMS membrane using toluene and n-heptane solvents, and their oxygen gas permeability and selectivity were explored. Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) technique was further used to study the polymer chain conformation and structure of membranes influenced by Zeolite 4A loading. The intersegmental distance between polymer chains and polymer chain aggregation or clustering were found to be increased on increasing the Zeolite 4A content in the membranes. Increment in the O2 permeability and O2/N2 selectivity were observed for both type of membranes (toluene and n-heptane) with 1 wt% Zeolite 4A loading. The best performance result with O2/N2 selectivity of 2.6, and O2 permeability of 1052 Barrer was exhibited by PDMS/toluene membrane loaded with 1 wt% Zeolite 4A. The PDMS/toluene membranes with 10 wt% Zeolite 4A loading exhibited increased O2 permeability of 1245 Barrer with a fair O2/N2selectivity of ~1.7, while the PDMS/n-heptane membrane with the same loading exhibited excellent O2 permeability of 6773 Barrer but lesser O2/N2 selectivity of ~1.2. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) Del. is a widely distributed xerophytic multipurpose tree. The mesocarp of the fruit of B. aegyptiaca has detergent properties due to the presence of saponins. The stability potential of this biosurfactant at varying pH, temperature, and salinity has not been explored so far. In the present study, the relative surface tensions of five different concentrations of the biosurfactant were studied at different temperatures, salinity, and under pH conditions. This study reveals that this biosurfactant retains its activity over a wide range of pH (3–11) and at high salinity (7% NaCl). It is a thermostable cationic surfactant; surfactant activity was recorded even at 100 °C with the lowest relative surface tension of 0.47. High oil displacement (18.00 mm) was observed when studied with petrol. This biosurfactant was found to have a high emulsification index (E24) of 70% with mustard oil. These results indicate that biosurfactant derived from B. aegyptiaca may find use in a wide range of sectors such as textile, food, cosmetics, oil recovery, and healthcare under a wide range of physical and chemical conditions. It offers an efficient, economically viable, and plant-derived alternative to synthetic detergents and adds a way to maintain a sustainable environment.  相似文献

In this work, the viability of producing biogenic hydroxyapatite from bio-waste animal bones, namely bovine (cow), caprine (goat) and galline (chicken), through a heat treatment process has been investigated. The animal bones were locally sourced, cleaned to remove collagen and subsequently heat treated in air atmosphere at different temperatures ranging from 600?°C to 1000?°C. From the range of sintering temperatures investigated, it was found that hydroxyapatite derived from bovine bone showed good thermal stability while those produced from caprine and galline bones exhibited phase instability with traces of tri-calcium phosphate (TCP) being detected after heat treatment beyond 700?°C. The porous nature of the bone samples can be observed from the microstructures obtained and supported by low relative density. Heating the bovine and caprine bones at selected temperatures yielded porous HA body, having hardness values that are comparable with human cortical bone. However, the sintered galline bone sample showed higher porosity levels and low hardness when compared to the other two bone types.  相似文献
