A constrained non-linear optimization model for fuzzy pairwise comparison matrices using teaching learning based optimization

Non-linear optimization models have been recently proposed to derive crisp weights from fuzzy pairwise comparison matrices. In this paper, a TLBO (Teaching Learning Based Optimization) based solution is presented for solving an optimization model as a system of non-linear equations to derive crisp weights from fuzzy pairwise comparison matrices in AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). This fuzzy-AHP method is named as TLBO-1. It has been found that TLBO-1 can lead to inconsistent or less consistent weights. To solve the problem of inconsistent weights, a new constrained non-linear optimization model is proposed in this paper. This model is based on the min-max approach for fuzzy pairwise comparison ratios of weights. TLBO is again used to solve this optimization model, and crisp weights are derived. This fuzzy AHP method is named as TLBO-2. The effectiveness of the proposed model is illustrated by three examples. For each example, the consistency of the derived crisp weights is compared with other optimization models. The results show that the TLBO-2 method can derive more consistent weights for the fuzzy AHP based Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) systems as compared to the other optimization models.     

Numerical study of defect in end plug weld joint of FBTR fuel pin

The fuel pins of fast reactor encounter high pressure, high temperature, high neutron fluence and sodium environment in their life time. This demands for high level of end plug weld integrity and hence, the acceptance criteria for these welds are very stringent. The defects usually encountered in the weld joints are micro-cracks, porosity, lack of fusion, root-pocket, etc. Amongst these weld defects, root-pocket at the weld joint is the most prominent defect observed in FBTR fuel fabrication campaign. The present paper deals with the FEM analysis of the weld zone having different sizes of root-pockets for the pressure developed inside the pin due to fission gas release and creep damage due to higher operating temperature.

Isolation of type II epithelial cells from rabbit fetal lungs by adherence on an IgG-coated surface

The lung is comprised of about 40 different cell types, of which only 15% are type II cells. These are the major, if not the sole, source of synthesis and secretion of lung surfactant. To date a large number of methods have been described for the isolation of pure populations of type II cells using a wide variety of techniques, but most of these have employed differential centrifugation methods and have used adult rodents. The present study reports the isolation of type II cells from fetal rabbit lungs by the immunoglobin G plating method. Pure populations of fetal type II cells in high yield and with good viability were obtained by the procedure for the first time from rabbit fetal tissue.     

Storage stability of solid rocket fuels. 2. Effect of oxidizer loadings

Ageing behaviour, leading to ballistic changes, has been studied as a function of oxidizer loading in polystyrene/ammonium perchlorate solid-propellants. The ageing studies were carried out at 100 °C in air. Change in burning rate decreased as the oxidizer loading increased from 75 to 80%. The change in thermal decomposition rates both at 230 and 260 °C also decreased as the oxidizer loading in the propellants increased. The shapes of the plots of the changes in burning rate and thermal decomposition rate (230 and 260 °C) at different storage times for different oxidizer-loaded propellants seem to be exactly similar. These results lead to the conclusion that the thermal decomposition of the propellant may be responsible for bringing about the ballistic changes during the ageing process. Infrared studies of the binder portion of the aged propellant indicate that peroxide formation takes place during the course of ageing and that peroxide formation for a particular storage time and temperature increases as the loading decreases.
