Alkali activated binders are a promising alternative to the use of Portland cement in the manufacture of concrete for curbing CO2 emissions. Novel sources of silicates have been investigated in recent years for reducing cost and environmental impacts associated with the use of chemical activators. This study describes the production of solid sodium silicate (SS) activating powder from bamboo leaf ash (BLA). Bamboo leaves were calcined at 550–800°C, mixed with NaOH pellets, and heated in an oven at 300°C. The obtained silicate powder was used for activating blended fly ash/slag samples. Mechanical and microstructural properties of BLA-based samples were compared to those of samples made with commercially available chemicals. The strength of BLA-activated mortars matched the commercially-sourced activators, being 25–30 MPa at 7 days and exceeding 40 MPa at 28 days. The microstructural analysis suggested that BLA-based SS showed a lesser degree of dissolution of precursors at 7 days, but the quality of the matrix was higher than that of NaOH-activated samples. These results confirmed that the reactivity of BLA-silicate powder was similar to that of commercial SS solutions, and show the potential valorization of future biomass renewable waste in the production of low carbon, alkali-activated concretes. 相似文献

A new tripodal imine ligand tris(2-(propan-2-ylideneamino)ethyl)amine (imine3tren) was prepared in order to stabilize high valent iron-oxido complexes. Iron complexes were synthesized in template reactions from iron(II) salts, tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (tren) and acetone. Due to the reversibility of the imine formation, complexes with different ligands were obtained depending on the reaction conditions. Three complexes, [Fe(imine3tren)(OAc)2] ( 1 ), [Fe(imine3tren)(OAc)]OTf ( 2 ) and [(imine3tren)2Fe2(F)2](SbF6)2 ( 3 ), could be synthesized and structurally characterized. Calcium carbonate (CaCO3)/alginate inorganic–organic hybrid particles were synthesized and deposited on to the surface of cotton fabrics with a novel one‐step procedure. The effects of the Ca2+/CO32?/alginate molar ratio on the cotton matrix were investigated. The optimization of the process resulted in a regular shaped hybrid microparticles, and scanning electron microscopy revealed that the particles were uniformly distributed on the surface of the fibers. Dynamic light scattering showed that the particles were about 2 μm in diameter. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy images demonstrated that the core–shell structure of the particles existed along with CaCO3 evenly enfolded into the alginate layer. An X‐ray diffraction pattern displayed that the alginate/CaCO3 hybrid microparticles were a mixture of calcite and vaterite crystal. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicated that CaCO3/alginate hybrid particles formed in situ were the only deposited materials. The thermogravimetric analysis curve indicated a certain mass ratio of the alginate and CaCO3 in the hybrid particles. Furthermore, the drug‐loading and drug‐release properties of the hybrid microspheres were studied, and the results show that the water‐soluble diclofenac sodium could be effectively loaded in the hybrid microparticles and the drug release could be effectively sustained. The development and use of a Bayesian Belief Network (BBN) model, within an adaptive management process for the management of water quality in the Mackay Whitsunday region of Queensland, Australia is described. The management goal is firstly to set achievable targets for water quality entering the Great Barrier Reef lagoon from the Mackay Whitsunday natural resource management region and then secondly to define and implement a strategy to achieve these targets. The BBN serves as an adaptive framework that managers and scientists may use to articulate what they know about the managed system. It then provides a tool to guide where, when and what interventions (including research) are most likely to achieve management outcomes. Importantly the BBN provides a platform for collective learning.BBN estimates of total suspended sediment (TSS) loads and event mean concentrations (EMCs) were compared to observed data and results from current best practice models. The BBN estimates were reasonable relative to empirical observations. Example results from the BBN are thereafter used to illustrate the use of the model in estimating the likelihood of exceeding water quality targets with and without proposed actions to improve water quality. Example results are also used to illustrate what spatial or land use elements might contribute most to exceeding water quality targets. Finally key limitations of the tool are discussed and important learnings from the process are highlighted. 相似文献
