A facile approach to the fabrication of ultrathin polymer films on a flat or curved substrate is presented. Polymers with unsaturated pendant groups were spin-coated on a photoinitiator tethered surface, which was then photoirradiated and washed with a solvent. The obtained films were uniform, smooth (Ra < 0.2 nm) and exhibited robustness toward solvents. The thickness of the films was determined by the molecular weight of the coated polymer and was not dependent on the initial spin-coated thickness. A mechanism for the formation of the ultrathin film and application to optical lenses is presented.  相似文献

This paper shows the effects of clearance length between a body and a duct wall, and duct height on the heat transfer characteristics and flow behavior at a downstream region of the body when a blunt body was set in a parallel plate duct with some distance separating it from the duct wall as a turbulence promoter. For the ratio of clearance to body height, C/D = 0.05–01, the heat transfer was characterized by the reattachment of shear flow separated from the body. Furthermore, the heat transfer depended on both the reattachment flow and the separation vortex at C/D = 0.15–0.2, and the side vortex induced by Karman vortex at C/D = 0.25–0.275 was also observed. We found the reattachment flow gives a superior effect to enhance heat transfer at a low Reynolds number, but at a larger Reynolds number, the side vortex induced by Karman vortex becomes more effective to heat transfer enhancement. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The physical and electrochemical properties of boron-doped polycrystalline diamond electrodes, prepared with various B/C ratio, i.e., 0.1%, 0.5% (BDD-A), 1% (BDD-B), and 5% (BDD-C), were investigated. Electrochemical measurements of the heavily boron-doped films (BDD-C) showed giant electric double-layer capacitance and activity which is significantly larger than BDD-A and BDD-B as well as glassy carbon electrodes. However, interestingly, actual boron concentration of BDD-C was observed to be almost the same as that of BDD-B by secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) and glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES) analysis. It is suggested that the large capacitance is due to a few sp2-bonded carbon impurities, which was observed only in BDD-C, although the amount of the sp2-bonded nondiamond species are very small. In the present work, the reason for the interesting electrochemical properties of heavily boron-doped diamond electrodes is discussed. Furthermore, dimensional stability of the electrodes was also confirmed by conducting harsh anodic treatment.  相似文献

Deuterated polyfluoromethacrylate which has high transparency, low birefringence and good processability was newly synthesized for use as optical waveguide materials, and both single-mode and multimode optical waveguides were fabricated using the polymer. The propagation loss and waveguide birefringence of the single-mode waveguides were as low as 0.10 dB/cm and -5.5×10-6 at 1.31 μm, respectively. The propagation losses of the multimode waveguides were less than 0.02 dB/cm at both 0.68 and 0.83 μm, and 0.07 dB/cm at 1.31 μm  相似文献

A prism-pair interferometer comprising two homodyne interferometers with a common light source was developed for high-precision measurements of the refractive index of optical glasses with an uncertainty of the order of 10(-6). The two interferometers measure changes in the optical path length in the glass sample and in air, respectively. Uncertainties in the absolute wavelength of the common light source are cancelled out by calculating a ratio between the results from the interferometers. Uncertainties in phase measurement are suppressed by a quadrature detection system. The combined standard uncertainty of the developed system is evaluated as 1.1×10(-6).  相似文献

This paper presents the design and implementation techniques employed in a Japanese-to-Sinhalese machine translation system. The main result of this work is the successful application of Bunsetsu in generating meaningful translations for a flexible-grammar language. The system has been developed considering the similarities between Japanese Bunsetsu and Sinhalese units. Such efforts are being focused on determining the minimum reasonable grammatical knowledge necessary for machine translation. The principal characteristics of the system, the translation process, problems encountered during the development stages, present status, and future plans will be discussed.  相似文献

We investigated the propagation properties of Lamb waves in a GIS tank, using time–frequency analysis to diagnose the insulation performance of GIS. We measured the acoustic signals excited by metallic particles colliding with the tank sheath, and those emitted by partial discharge in the GIS. The wavelet transform was used to decompose the wave data into its time–frequency components. As a result, it was confirmed that Lamb waves with the dispersive property of the velocity are excited and propagate in a spiral path along the tank wall due to the cylindrical structure of the tank. Taking these results into consideration, we propose a new technique for identification of defect locations in GIS based on time–frequency analysis of acoustic signals with the wavelet transform. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper proposes a method to recognize digits in a natural scene, such as telephone numbers on a signboard. Candidate regions of digits are extracted from an image through contrast enhancement, edge extraction, and labeling. Since the target text patterns are in a 3D space, unlike traditional character recognition problems, we have to deal with the image transformation effect due to the orientation in the 3D space and projection. We have to cancel the effect as much as possible before digit recognition. In our method, the image transformation effect is modeled as skew and slant. In the proposed method, simplified Hough transform is used for the skew normalization. After the skew normalization, the remaining effect of image transformation is corrected by circumscribing digit patterns with tilted rectangles and affine transformation. In experiments, we tested a total of 1,332 images of signboards with 11,939 digits. We obtained a digit extraction rate of 99.2% and a correct digit recognition rate of 98.8%.Received: 15 December 2003, Accepted: 21 October 2004, Published online: 2 February 2005  相似文献
