This article offers a detailed comparison of the transition elements described by P.P. Lynn and A.R. Ingraffea [International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering 12,1031–1036] and C. Manu[Engineering Fracture Mechanics 24,509–512]. The source of a numerical phenomenon in using Manu's transitionelement (TE) is explained. The effect of eight-noded TEs with differentquarter-point elements (QPE) on the calculated stress intensity factors (SIFs) isinvestigated. Strain at the crack tip is shown to be singular for any ray emanating from the crack tip within an eight-noded TE, but strain has bothr –1/2andr –1singularities, withr –1/2dominating for large TEs. Semi-transition elements (STEs) are defined and shown to have a marginal effect on the calculated SIFs. Nine-nodedtransition elements are formulated whose strain singularity is shown to be the same as that of eight-noded TEs. Then the effect of eight-noded and nine-noded TEs with collapsed triangular QPEs, and rectangular and nonrectangular quadrilateral eight-noded and nine-noded QPEs, is studied, and nine-noded TEs are shown to behave exactly like eight-noded TEs with rectangular eight-noded and nine-noded QPEs and to behave almost the same with other QPEs. The layered transition elements proposed by V. Murti and S.Valliapan [Engineering Fracture Mechanics 25, 237–258] areformulated correctly. The effect of layered transition elements is shown by two numerical examples.  相似文献

The mechanical behavior and the kinetics of shear banding in bulk metallic glasses was investigated at room and liquid nitrogen temperature using the acoustic emission (AE) technique. It was demonstrated that the intensive AE reflecting the activity of strongly localized shear bands at room temperature vanishes at the transition of plastic flow from serrated to non-serrated with a reduction in temperature. The disappearance of AE clearly suggests that the shear band propagation velocity significantly decreases at low temperature, and sliding along the principle shear band is observed at the machine-driven rate.  相似文献

Alkylphenols(APs), considered as xenoestrogenic compounds, mainly exist as 4-nonylphenol(4-NP) and 4-tertoctylphenol(4-t-OP) in environments. The high stability and accumulation of APs in aquatic systems have caused endocrine disruption. In this study we measured APs in the wastewater influent and effluent samples, from the urban, rural, livestock, commercial and hospital wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in Iran. Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction(DLLME) combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) was used for the extraction and determination of 4-NP and 4-t-OP. In these treatment plants, various processes such as activated sludge, aerated lagoon, moving bed biofilm reactor and activated sludge along with wetland were applied. The highest concentration of 4-NP and 4-t-OP was observed in commercial and livestock sewages. The activated sludge along with wetland and then the MBBR process showed the highest removal rates of pollutants. The rates of biodegradability and accumulation in sludge were determined and also the specific adsorption coefficient Kdand the organic carbon–water partition coefficient kOCof the sludge for APs were calculated.  相似文献

Estrogen hormones as a group of endocrine disruptive compounds(EDC) can interfere with endocrine system in humans and animals. The goal of this study was to investigate the elimination rate of Estrone(El), 17β-estradiol(E2) and 17α-ethinyl estradiol(EE2) in Moving Bed Bioreactor(MBBR). These analytes extracted by Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction(DLLME) technique, followed by derivatization, and detected by GC/MS. Estrogen removal efficiency in MBBR improved at high solid retention times(SRTs), which notion is owing to development of nitrification. Estrogen specific removal rate was between 0.22-1.45 μg·(g VSS)~(-1)·d~(-1) for natural and synthetic hormones. The adsorption rate was 0.9%-3.2%, 0-1.3%, and 0.7%-5.7% for El, E2, and EE2, respectively. In addition, the biodegradation rates were more than 95% for these compounds. These results illustrated that in MBBR,the biodegradation and the adsorption to biomass are considered as two significant routes for elimination of estrogenic compounds. As a whole, the deterioration rate of estrogens enhanced by MBBR compared to other biological wastewater treatment processes such as conventional activated sludge.  相似文献

A conventional gas metal arc welding (GMAW) butt-joining process has been modeled using a two-way fully coupled, transient, thermal-mechanical finite-element procedure. To achieve two-way thermal-mechanical coupling, the work of plastic deformation resulting from potentially high thermal stresses is allowed to be dissipated in the form of heat, and the mechanical material model of the workpiece and the weld is made temperature dependent. Heat losses from the deposited filler-metal are accounted for by considering conduction to the adjoining workpieces as well as natural convection and radiation to the surroundings. The newly constructed GMAW process model is then applied, in conjunction with the basic material physical-metallurgy, to a prototypical high-hardness armor martensitic steel (MIL A46100). The main outcome of this procedure is the prediction of the spatial distribution of various crystalline phases within the weld and the heat-affected zone regions, as a function of the GMAW process parameters. The newly developed GMAW process model is validated by comparing its predictions with available open-literature experimental and computational data.  相似文献

We report the results of in situ investigation of the structural evolution and crystallization behavior of Ni-based bulk metallic glass. The X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, nanobeam diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, radial distribution function and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM)/spectroscopy techniques were applied to analyze the structure and electronic properties of Ni63.5Nb36.5 glasses before and after crystallization. According to our STM measurements, the primary crystallization originally starts with the Ni3Nb phase formation as a leading eutectic phase. It was shown that surface crystallization differs drastically from bulk crystallization due to the possible surface reconstruction. The mechanism of Ni63.5Nb36.5 glass alloy two-dimensional crystallization was suggested, which corresponds to the local metastable (3 × 3) ?  Ni(1 1 1) surface phase formation. The possibility of different surface nanostructures developing by annealment of the originally glassy alloy in an ultrahigh vacuum at a temperature lower than the bulk crystallization temperature was shown. The increase of the mean square surface roughness parameter Rq while transforming from a glassy to a fully crystallized state can be caused by concurrent growth of Ni3Nb and Ni6Nb7 bulk phases. The simple empirical model for the estimation of Ni63.5Nb36.5 cluster size was suggested, and the value obtained (about 8 Å) is in good agreement with the corresponding STM measurements (8–10 Å).  相似文献

A four‐stage amplifier with a new and efficient frequency compensation topology is presented in this paper. The new compensation scheme applies a Miller capacitor as the main negative feedback, a resistor and a capacitor in series as a load for one of the intermediate stages, and two feedforward paths. In order to design the amplifier and acquire circuit parameters, small signal analyses have been carried out to derive the signal transfer function and the pole‐zero locations. The proposed amplifier was designed and implemented in a standard 90 nm CMOS process with two heavy capacitive loads of 500 pF and 1 nF. The simulation results show that when driving a 500 pF load, the amplifier has a gain‐bandwidth product of 18 MHz consuming only 40.9 μW. With a 1 nF capacitive load, the proposed amplifier achieves 15.1 MHz gain‐bandwidth product and dissipates 55.2 μW from a single 0.9 V power supply. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Landuse change and climate change are the main drivers of hydrological processes. The purpose of this study was to analyse the separate and combined future effects of climate and landuse changes on water balance components on different spatial and temporal scales using the integrated hydrological Soil and Water Assessment Tool model. The study focused on the changes and relationship between water yield (WYLD) and sediment yield (SYLD) in the heterogeneous Taleghan Catchment in Iran. For future climate scenarios, RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 of GFDL-ESM2M GCM were used for 2020–2040. A Markov chain model was used to predict landuse change in the catchment. The results indicated an increase in precipitation and evapotranspiration. The findings also showed that the relationship between WYLD and SYLD is direct and synergic. Climate change has a stronger effect on WYLD than landuse change, whereas landuse change has a stronger effect on SYLD. The conversion of rangelands to barren land is the most critical landuse change that could increase SYLD. The highest increase in WYLD and SYLD in scenario RCP4.5 resulted from the combined effects of climate and landuse change. We estimated WYLD of about 295 mm and SYLD of around 17 t/ha. The proposed methodology is universal and can be applied to similar settings to identify the most vulnerable regions. This can help prioritize management strategies to improve water and soil management in watersheds.
