The tert‐butoxy radical‐facilitated grafting of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto commercial polypropylene (PP) pellets and fiber was investigated in heterogeneous conditions similar to practical systems. Free‐radical grafting of several other monomers onto PP fiber was also investigated. Also, preliminary data from the grafting of MMA onto poly(ethylene terephthalate) pellets is presented. The PP‐graft‐PMMA residues were detected by solid‐state 13C‐NMR and photoacoustic IR spectroscopy. There was a good correlation between the degree of grafting (DG) determined from these spectroscopic techniques and the results from gravimetric methods. A maximum grafting efficiency of over 50% was found, whereas DG (20%) remained constant at various PP pellet, initiator, and monomer concentrations. However, at relatively low PP fiber concentrations, the DG was 27%; the increase was most likely due to the greater surface area of the fiber. There was also a reduction in DG (14%) at relatively low initiator concentrations. The reaction conditions were altered to favor grafting by the addition of more polymer substrate. When the ratio of tert‐butoxy radicals to PP was decreased, more of the substrate remained unmodified, and empirical calculations showed the formation of grafts with up to 40 monomer units. At high initiator concentrations, calculations showed that the graft residues were 1–2 units long. Five reconstructed alpha-motoneurons (MNs) are simulated under physiological and morphological realistic parameters. We compare the resulting excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) of models, containing voltage-dependent channels on the dendrites, with the EPSP of a passive MN and an active soma and axon model. In our simulations, we apply three different distribution functions of the voltage-dependent channels on the dendrites: a step function (ST) with uniform spatial dispersion; an exponential decay (ED) function, with proximal to the soma high-density location; and an exponential rise (ER) with distally located conductance density. In all cases, the synaptic inputs are located as a gaussian function on the dendrites. Our simulations lead to eight key observations. (1) The presence of the voltage-dependent channels conductance (g(Active)) in the dendrites is vital for obtaining EPSP peak boosting. (2) The mean EPSP peaks of the ST, ER, and ED distributions are similar when the ranges of G (total conductance) are equal. (3) EPSP peak increases monotonically when the magnitude of g(Na_step) (maximal g(Na) at a particular run) is increased. (4) EPSP kinetics parameters were differentially affected; time integral was decreased monotonically with increased g(Na_step), but the rate of rise (the decay time was not analyzed) does not show clear relations. (5) The total G can be elevated by increasing the number of active dendrites; however, only a small active area of the dendritic tree is sufficient to get the maximal boosting. (6) The sometimes large variations in the parameters values for identical G depend on the g(Na_step) and active dendritic area. (7) High g(Na_step) in a few dendrites is more efficient in amplifying the EPSP peak than low g(Na_step) in many dendrites. Decentralized Reputation Systems have recently emerged as a prominent method of establishing trust among self-interested agents
in online environments. A key issue is the efficient aggregation of data in the system; several approaches have been proposed,
but they are plagued by major shortcomings. We put forward a novel, decentralized data management scheme grounded in gossip-based
algorithms. Rumor mongering is known to possess algorithmic advantages, and indeed, our framework inherits many of their salient
features: scalability, robustness, a global perspective, and simplicity. We demonstrate that our scheme motivates agents to
maintain a very high reputation, by showing that the higher an agent’s reputation is above the threshold set by its peers,
the more transactions it would be able to complete within a certain time unit. We analyze the relation between the amount
by which an agent’s average reputation exceeds the threshold and the time required to close a deal. This analysis is carried
out both theoretically, and empirically through a simulation system called GossipTrustSim. Finally, we show that our approach is inherently impervious to certain kinds of attacks.

This work demonstrates in practical terms the evolutionary concepts and computational applications of Parametric Curves. Specific cases were drawn from higher order parametric Bezier curves of degrees 2 and above. Bezier curves find real life applications in diverse areas of Engineering and Computer Science, such as computer graphics, robotics, animations, virtual reality, among others. Some of the evolutionary issues explored in this work are in the areas of parametric equations derivations, proof of related theorems, first and second order calculus related computations, among others. A Practical case is demonstrated using a graphical design, physical hand sketching, and programmatic implementation of two opposite-faced handless cups, all evolved using quadratic Bezier curves. The actual drawing was realized using web graphics canvas programming based on HTML 5 and JavaScript. This work will no doubt find relevance in computational researches in the areas of graphics, web programming, automated theorem proofs, robotic motions, among others. 相似文献

Introduction: Oral phosphate binders are the main stay of treatment of hyperphosphatemia. Adherence rates to ferric citrate, a recently approved phosphate binder, are unknown. Methods: We conducted a post‐hoc analysis to evaluate whether adherence rates were different for ferric citrate vs. active control in 412 subjects with end stage kidney disease (ESKD) who were randomized to ferric citrate vs. active control (sevelamer carbonate and/or calcium acetate). Adherence was defined as percent of actual number of pills taken to total number of pills prescribed. Findings: There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics including gender, race/ethnicity, and age between the ferric citrate and active control groups. Baseline phosphorus, calcium, and parathyroid hormone levels were similar. Mean (SD) adherence was 81.4% (17.4) and 81.7% (15.9) in the ferric citrate and active control groups, respectively (P = 0.88). Adherence remained similar between both groups after adjusting for gender, race/ethnicity, age, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and diabetic nephropathy (mean [95% CI]: 81.4% [78.2, 84.6] and 81.5% [77.7, 85.2] for ferric citrate and active control, respectively). Gender, race/ethnicity, age, and diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy did not influence adherence to the prescribed phosphate binder. Subjects with CVD had lower adherence rates to phosphate binder; this was significant only in the active control group. Discussion: Adherence rates to the phosphate binder, ferric citrate, were similar to adherence rates to active control. Similar adherence rates to ferric citrate are notable since tolerance to active control was an entry criteria and the study was open label. Gender, race/ethnicity, nor age influenced adherence. 相似文献

Up to now, the quality of life of children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders has rarely been investigated. Not many suitable instruments are available. A new one is the "Inventory for the Assessment of the Quality of Live in Children and Adolescents" presented here. Objectives and underlying conceptual assumptions are discussed, followed by an explanation of the instrument itself (questionnaires, rating scales, etc.). Finally, experiences with the application of the instrument are reported together with initial empirical results from a clinical sample and a sample of high school students. These indicate that the instrument usefully assesses clinically relevant information about the quality of life of the patients. A broader empirical analysis of this method is being prepared. 相似文献

A new axiomatic system OST of operational set theory is introduced in which the usual language of set theory is expanded to allow us to talk about (possibly partial) operations applicable both to sets and to operations. OST is equivalent in strength to admissible set theory, and a natural extension of OST is equivalent in strength to ZFC. The language of OST provides a framework in which to express “small” large cardinal notions—such as those of being an inaccessible cardinal, a Mahlo cardinal, and a weakly compact cardinal—in terms of operational closure conditions that specialize to the analogue notions on admissible sets. This illustrates a wider program whose aim is to provide a common framework for analogues of large cardinal notions that have appeared in admissible set theory, admissible recursion theory, constructive set theory, constructive type theory, explicit mathematics, and systems of recursive ordinal notations that have been used in proof theory. 相似文献

This article focuses on the pendulum-like change in the way people read and use text, which was triggered by the introduction
of new reading and writing technologies in human history. The paper argues that textual features, which characterized the
ancient pre-print writing culture, disappeared with the establishment of the modern-day print culture and has been “revived”
in the digital post-modern era. This claim is based on the analysis of four cases which demonstrate this textual-pendulum
swing: (1) The swing from concrete iconic-graphic representation of letters and words in the ancient alphabet to abstract
phonetic representation of text in modern eras, and from written abstract computer commands “back” to the concrete iconic
representation in graphic user interfaces of the digital era; (2) The swing from scroll reading in the pre-print era to page
or book reading in the print era and “back” to scroll reading in the digital era; (3) The swing from a low level of authorship
in the pre-print era to a strong authorship perception in the print era, and “back” to a low degree of authorship in the digital
era; (4) The swing from synchronic representation of text in both visual and audio formats during the pre-print era to a visual
representation only in print, and “back” to a synchronic representation in many environments of the digital era. We suggest
that the print culture, which is usually considered the natural and preferred textual environment, should be regarded as the

The discovery of meaningful parts of a shape is required for many geometry processing applications, such as parameterization, shape correspondence, and animation. It is natural to consider primitives such as spheres, cylinders and cones as the building blocks of shapes, and thus to discover parts by fitting such primitives to a given surface. This approach, however, will break down if primitive parts have undergone almost‐isometric deformations, as is the case, for example, for articulated human models. We suggest that parts can be discovered instead by finding intrinsic primitives, which we define as parts that posses an approximate intrinsic symmetry. We employ the recently‐developed method of computing discrete approximate Killing vector fields (AKVFs) to discover intrinsic primitives by investigating the relationship between the AKVFs of a composite object and the AKVFs of its parts. We show how to leverage this relationship with a standard clustering method to extract k intrinsic primitives and remaining asymmetric parts of a shape for a given k. We demonstrate the value of this approach for identifying the prominent symmetry generators of the parts of a given shape. Additionally, we show how our method can be modified slightly to segment an entire surface without marking asymmetric connecting regions and compare this approach to state‐of‐the‐art methods using the Princeton Segmentation Benchmark. 相似文献
