Self assembled monolayers (SAMs) of hydroxamic acids CH3(CH2)nCONHOH with different alkyl length were formed on the carbon steel electrode surface. The corrosion protection properties of the monolayers were examined and characterized by electrochemical polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and contact angle measurements. XPS results showed that the hydroxamic acid molecules adsorbed on the carbon steel surface, and the contact angle values on the modified surface supported the formation of hydrophobic hydroxamic acid SAMs. The results of electrochemical studies showed that the values of the corrosion potential shift towards the positive direction, and anodic currents of the carbon steel dissolution significantly decreases, indicating that hydroxamic acids are anodic inhibitors. Expression level of Tumor Necrosis Factor—related apoptosis—inducing ligand (TRAIL) receptors is one of the most important factors of TRAIL-mediated apoptosis in cancer cells. We here report for the first time data concerning TRAIL-R1 and TRAIL-R2 receptor expression on RAW264.7 macrophages. Three substances belonging to flavones: chrysin, apigenin and acacetin which differ from their substituents at the 4'' position in the phenyl ring were used in assays because of the variety of biological activities (e.g., anticancer activity) of the polyphenol compounds. The expression of TRAIL-R1 and TRAIL-R2 death receptors on non-stimulated and LPS (lipopolysaccharide)-stimulated macrophages was determined using flow cytometry. We demonstrate that RAW264.7 macrophages exhibit TRAIL-R1 surface expression and that the tested compounds: chrysin, apigenin and acacetin can inhibit TRAIL-R1 death receptor expression level on macrophages. 相似文献

The effects of charge-trapping species on the kinetics of phenol decomposition were studied in near-UV-irradiated aqueous TiO2 (anatase) suspensions in a batch photoreactor. The influence of catalyst loading, initial phenol concentration, dissolved O2 concentration, Ag+ content and H2O2 concentration on the rate of phenol degradation is reported. The observed heterogeneous degradation of phenol followed apparently zero-order kinetics up to ca. 70% conversion. The Langmuir–Hinshelwood kinetic model successfully described the influence of the initial phenol concentration and dissolved O2 concentration on the rate of heterogeneous photooxidation of phenol. The data obtained by applying the Langmuir–Hinshelwood treatment are consistent with the available kinetic parameters. The results of the experiments in the presence of Ag+ indicated that the phototransformation of phenol can proceed via direct electron transfer, neither dissolved O2 nor its reduction forms playing a significant role in the degradation mechanism. 相似文献

Infections with enterococci are challenging to treat due to intrinsic resistance to several antibiotics. Especially vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis are of considerable concern with a limited number of efficacious therapeutics available. From an initial screening of 20 peptidomimetics, 11 stable peptide/β-peptoid hybrids were found to have antibacterial activity against eight E. faecium and E. faecalis isolates. Microbiological characterization comprised determination of minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs), probing of synergy with antibiotics in a checkerboard assay, time–kill studies, as well as assessment of membrane integrity. E. faecium isolates proved more susceptible than E. faecalis isolates, and no differences in susceptibility between the vancomycin-resistant (VRE) and -susceptible E. faecium isolates were observed. A test of three peptidomimetics (Ac-[hArg-βNsce]6-NH2, Ac-[hArg-βNsce-Lys-βNspe]3-NH2 and Oct-[Lys-βNspe]6-NH2) in combination with conventional antibiotics (vancomycin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, linezolid, rifampicin or azithromycin) revealed no synergy. The same three potent analogues were found to have a bactericidal effect with a membrane-disruptive mode of action. Peptidomimetics Ac-[hArg-βNsce-Lys-βNspe]3-NH2 and Oct-[Lys-βNspe]6-NH2 with low MIC values (in the ranges 2–8 µg/mL and 4–16 µg/mL against E. faecium and E. faecalis, respectively) and displaying weak cytotoxic properties (i.e., <10% hemolysis at a ~100-fold higher concentration than their MICs; IC50 values of 73 and 41 µg/mL, respectively, against HepG2 cells) were identified as promising starting points for further optimization studies. 相似文献

In this study, a hydrothermal method was applied to synthesize the three-layer Aurivillius phase Sr2Bi2Ta2TiO12 (SBTTO) and Mn-substituted Sr1·5Bi2·5Ta2Ti0·5Mn0·5O12 (SBTTMO), with the use of NaOH as a mineralizer. The crystal structure, morphology, dielectric properties, and the correlation between the structural transformation and dielectric properties were investigated. The XRD data reveal that the SBTTO sample adopts a tetragonal crystal structure with the I4/mmm space group and is then transformed into an orthorhombic structure with the B2cb space group for SBTTMO. The morphology of both samples was observed by SEM, which showed anisotropic plate-like grains. With the Mn substitution, the ferroelectric transition temperature (Tc) significantly increases as the influence of the 6s2 lone pair of Bi3+ increases, and this in turn further induces the relaxor-ferroelectric behavior. Consequently, the increase in Tc confirms the structural transformation from the paraelectric-tetragonal to the ferroelectric-orthorhombic phase. 相似文献

The influence of hydrophobicity on antibacterial activity versus the effect on the viability of mammalian cells for peptide/peptoid hybrids was examined for oligomers based on the cationic Lys-like peptoid residue combined with each of 28 hydrophobic amino acids in an alternating sequence. Their relative hydrophobicity was correlated to activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive species, human red blood cells, and HepG2 cells. This identified hydrophobic side chains that confer potent antibacterial activity (e. g., MICs of 2–8 μg/mL against E. coli) and low toxicity toward mammalian cells (<10 % hemolysis at 400 μg/mL and IC50>800 μg/mL for HepG2 viability). Most peptidomimetics retained activity against drug-resistant strains. These findings corroborate the hypothesis that for related peptidomimetics two hydrophobicity thresholds may be identified: i) it should exceed a certain level in order to confer antibacterial activity, and ii) there is an upper limit, beyond which cell selectivity is lost. It is envisioned that once identified for a given subclass of peptide-like antibacterials such thresholds can guide further optimisation. 相似文献
