Members of the Burkholderia genus of Proteobacteria are capable of living freely in the environment and can also colonize human, animal and plant hosts. Certain members are considered to be clinically important from both medical and veterinary perspectives and furthermore may be important modulators of the rhizosphere. Quorum sensing via N-acyl homoserine lactone signals (AHL QS) is present in almost all Burkholderia species and is thought to play important roles in lifestyle changes such as colonization and niche invasion. Here we present a census of AHL QS genes retrieved from public databases and indicate that the local arrangement (topology) of QS genes, their location within chromosomes and their gene neighborhoods show characteristic patterns that differ between the known Burkholderia clades. In sequence phylogenies, AHL QS genes seem to cluster according to the local gene topology rather than according to the species, which suggests that the basic topology types were present prior to the appearance of current Burkholderia species. This work studies the effects of copper doping on the properties of the (K0.44Na0.52Li0.04)(Nb0.86Ta0.10Sb0.04)O3 piezoelectric ceramic material. Cu2+ incorporation into the perovskite structure produces a transformation of the crystalline lattice from tetragonal to orthorhombic symmetry together with an increase of the secondary phase. The grain size of the ceramic samples is increased due to the formation of a liquid phase during sintering, which increases with the Cu2+ content. EDS analysis reveals that the secondary-phase regions present a Cu and Nb-rich composition, indicating that the Cu-excess accommodates through the formation of this secondary phase. Cu-doping induces a rapid increase of the orthorhombic–tetragonal phase transition temperature, while the tetragonal–cubic phase transition temperature is decreased, the latter becoming more diffuse with the increase of Cu content. The piezoelectric properties of the material are reduced with the copper concentration, whereas the mechanical quality factor increases by a factor of nearly four.  相似文献

Nanometric ceria powders with fluorite-type structure were obtained by applying self-propagating room temperature method. The obtained powders were subsequently thermally treated (calcined) at different temperatures for different times. Powder properties such as specific surface area, crystallite size, particle size and lattice parameter have been studied. Roentgen diffraction analysis (XRD), BET and Raman scattering measurements were used to characterize the as-obtained (uncalcined) powder as well as powders calcined at different temperatures.It was found that the average diameter of the as-obtained crystallites is in the range of 3–5 nm whereas the specific surface area is about 70 m2/g. The subsequent, 15 min long, calcination of as-obtained powder at different temperatures gradually increased crystallite size up to ~60 nm and reduced specific surface down to 6 m2/g. Raman spectra of synthesized CeO2?y depicts a strong red shift of active triply degenerate F2 g mode as well as additional peak at 600 cm?1. The frequency of F2 g mode increased while its line width decreased with an increase in calcination temperature. Such a behavior is considered to be the result of particle size increase and agglomeration during the calcination. After the heat treatment at 800 °C crystallite size reached value larger than 50 nm. Second order Raman mode, which originates from intrinsic oxygen vacancies, disappeared after calcination.  相似文献

The roentgen-amorphous delaminated and dehydroxylated phase was prepared applying intensive milling procedure and subsequent thermal treatment of talc. Due to the similarity in properties and in thermal behavior of this material with roentgen-amorphous delaminated and dehydroxylated kaolinite phase, i.e. meta-kaolinite, the name meta-talc was suggested for this material. The properties and the behavior during thermal treatment were investigated using thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction analysis, infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The suggested procedure changes the activation energy of dehydroxylation, the behavior during thermal treatment and the phase composition of the product. The kinetics and thermodynamics of the thermal transition were evaluated using Kissinger equation and Eyering law.  相似文献

In this research report, a sintering process of porous ceramic materials based on Al2O3 was employed using a method where a cation precursor solution is embedded in an organic fibrous cotton matrix. For porous green bodies, the precursor solution and cotton were annealed at temperatures in the range of 100–1600 °C using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis to obtain a porous body formation and disposal process containing organic fibers and precursor solution. In a structure consisting of open pores and interconnected nanometric grains, despite the low porosity of around 40% (calculated geometrically), nitrogen physisorption determined a specific surface area of 14 m2/g, which shows much sintering of porous bodies. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analytical methods revealed a predominant amount of α-Al2O3 in the sintered samples. Thermal properties of the sintered Al2O3 fibers were obtained by using the Laser Flash which resulted in the lower thermal conductivity obtained by α-Al2O3 and therefore improved its potential use as an insulating material.  相似文献

WC–Co cemented carbide has been investigated using instrumented indentation with maximum applied loads from 0.1 to 10 mN. The hardness and indentation modulus of individual phases and the influence of crystallographic orientation of WC on the hardness and indentation modulus have been studied. The hardness of the Co binder was approximately 10 GPa and that of WC grains up to 50 GPa with relatively large scatter under the indentation load of 1 mN. Investigation of the role of crystallographic orientation of WC grains on hardness at 10 mN load revealed average values of HITbasal = 40.4 GPa (EITbasal = 674 GPa) and HITprismatic = 32.8 GPa (EItprismatic = 542 GPa), respectively. The scatter in the measured values at low indentation loads is caused by the effects of surface and sub-surface characteristics (residual stress, damaged region) and at higher loads by “mix-phase” volume below the indenter.  相似文献

A small fraction (5 vol.%) of detonation nanodiamonds, or DND, acts as a remarkably effective boundary pinning agent in alumina throughout a wide sintering temperature range (from 1200 up to 1700 °C). This is the first time that such a strong grain growth inhibitory effect is observed for any of the alumina based composites of similar characteristics reported in the literature. These nanocomposites were consolidated by pulsed electric current sintering (PECS) and present bending strength (550 MPa) and toughness (5.2 MPa m1/2) values significantly higher than the ones corresponding to alumina compacts obtained under the same sintering conditions.  相似文献

For a correct strength characterization of brittle materials, not only the maximum stress at fracture, but also the geometry of the specimens has to be considered thus taking into account the variable stress state and the size effect. Additionally, fracture may occur due to different fracture modes, as for example surface or edge defects. The authors propose a maximum likelihood estimator to obtain the cumulative distribution functions of strength for surface and edge flaw populations separately, both being three-parameter Weibull cdfs referred to an elemental surface area or elemental edge length, respectively. The method has been applied to simulated 3-point bending test data. The estimated Weibull parameters have been used to compute the cdfs of strength for specimens with different size, providing also the confidence bounds calculated by means of the bootstrap method. Finally, fracture data of 4-point bending tests on silicon carbide have been evaluated with the proposed method.  相似文献

The structural order of kaolinite is an important factor that shows a substantial effect on the processes which take place during the thermal treatment of kaolin. The influence of structural order on the dehydroxylation process was investigated by simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The thermal analysis was performed on the samples with gradually decreasing structural order prepared by milling procedure. The apparent activation energy of dehydroxylation process decreases with decreasing structural order according to the exponential function. The extrapolation of experimental data leads to the estimation of apparent activation energy of 76.6 kJ mol?1 and of frequency factor of 0.12 × 104 s?1 related to completely disordered form of kaolinite, while the ordered form shows the apparent activation energy of 216.17 kJ mol?1 and the frequency factor of 9.26 × 104 s?1. The relationships between features such as the infrared pattern of treated material, the degree of structural order and the apparent activation energy were established.  相似文献

Niobium oxides have been reported as an alternative to tantalum, and its oxide, for the production of capacitors, but these materials still require a further and exhaustive study. Understanding the dynamics of the oxidation process from NbO to Nb2O5 is essential to explain and control the properties of a niobium oxide based capacitors. In situ XRD analysis of NbO powders was performed from 100 to 1100 °C, which showed a temperature range where only amorphous phase is present. The capacitor anodes, formed from the same type of NbO powders, were then heat-treated in air from room-temperature (RT) to 550 °C and recorded with a video camera to see the colour shift. The presence of core–shell structures and the increase of the shell thickness/amount with temperature are visible in SEM. Finally, in situ spectroscopy studies were performed, in order to observe the interference spectra which are responsible for the observed colours.  相似文献
