The effect of cholisorb on liver exocrine function

The effect of cholisorb and its salt (Na and K) forms on the external secretion of the liver was studied. The cholagogic effect of the H-form of cholisorb and its salt forms was demonstrated in dog experiments. The effect of the H-form proved to be stronger. This effect was associated with decreased absorption of bile acids and cholesterol in the intestine and disturbed hepato-intestinal biliary cycle as a result of which adaptation mechanisms directed at restoration of this cycle are apparently switched on.

There is evidence of a two-way interaction between gastric acid secretion and H. pylori-associated gastritis. Gastric acid secretion influences the density of H. pylori colonisation, its distribution within the stomach and the severity of the mucosal inflammatory response to the infection. In addition, H. pylori gastritis alters gastric acid secretion. In subjects with a predominant antral gastritis, it increases acid secretion predisposing to duodenal ulcer, whereas in others with predominant body gastritis, acid secretion is impaired and the subjects have an increased risk of gastric cancer. The two-way interaction between acid secretion and H. pylori gastritis is observed when H. pylori-positive subjects are treated with proton pump inhibitor agents. The inhibition of acid secretion induces a body gastritis and this inflammation of the body mucosa inhibits acid secretion thus augmenting the anti-secretory effect of the drug. In this article, we discuss the interaction between gastric acid secretion and H. pylori gastritis and its importance in determining disease outcome.     

Polyclonal antibodies from blood and cerebrospinal fluid of patients with multiple sclerosis effectively hydrolyze DNA and RNA

It is known that in the blood of patients with some autoimmune diseases catalytically active antibodies hydrolyzing proteins, DNA, and RNA may be detected. In the present work homogeneous preparations of IgG antibodies (Ab) possessing high affinity for nucleic acids (NA) were obtained for the first time from blood and cerebrospinal fluid of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The fraction of IgG Ab as well as its Fab fragments and isolated light chains of both kappa- and lambda-types were shown to catalyze effectively the hydrolysis of DNA and RNA. It is shown by different methods that the capability for nucleic acid hydrolysis is an intrinsic property of the polyclonal Ab. NA-hydrolyzing Ab were detected in the blood of 69 of 72 and in the cerebrospinal fluid of 5 of 5 examined MS patients, while they were not detected in the blood of any of 50 healthy donors examined. Comparison of relative rates of RNA hydrolysis and of the substrate specificity in hydrolysis of various model RNAs--cCMP, poly(U), poly(A), and poly(C)--revealed pronounced differences of MS antibodies from ribonucleases of human blood, ribonuclease A, and all earlier described abzymes. The abzymes are usually characterized by relatively low specific activities in comparison with that of normal enzymes catalyzing analogous reactions. Ab from the blood of MS patients are the first example of autoabzymes whose specific activity in RNA hydrolysis is comparable or even higher than that of pancreatic ribonuclease A--one of the most active RNA-hydrolyzing enzymes.

Effect of Thickness Error of Accelerator Tritium Film-on Inversion of BIXS Method

BIXS (β-ray induced X-ray spectrometry) is a nondestructive method to analyze tritium, which can be affected by many factors in inversion process. The difference between tritium film’s thickness and inversion basic function spectrum’s thickness can’t be overlooked. By the Monte Carlo method code PENELOPE and experiment, it is found that the thickness error of accelerator tritium film has an effect for inversion of BIXS method. The thickness error makes a great impact on tritium increasing distribution, and a less impact on tritium descending distribution. The bigger the slope of tritium depth distribution in titanium film, the greater the influence of thickness error of tritium film on BIXS inversion.
