AbstractDielectric heating (DH) is an alternative to traditional conductive heating. Preservation of fruits and vegetables through drying based on DH is faster than conventional heating systems, needing less processing time, and delivering a better dehydrated product as well as reduced treatment costs. Dielectric properties (DPs) are significant physical qualities that are affected by microwave (MW) and radio frequency (RF) heating systems; these attributes directly affect the electromagnetic arrangement and currents surrounding the materials. In other words, DPs define the response of materials in electric fields at the desired frequency and temperature. Thus, DPs of materials are of increasing interest in the agricultural and food-processing fields. The principles of the DPs of fruits and vegetables according to frequency, temperature, and composition are crucial in the designing and handling of MW and RF heating operations. A consideration of DPs is required to ensure the quality of fruits and vegetables is enhanced throughout the drying process for better quality final products. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive update on the prospects of DH for drying of fruits and vegetables. The factors that affect the DPs during the dehydration process of fruits and vegetables and discussions about the correlation among these factors were also provided. In addition, the fundamentals of DPs and their measurement techniques were also discussed. This study is an update on the state-of-the-art DH system and illustrates the important influence of DPs on the radiative heating of fruits and vegetables. 相似文献

A variety of vascular pathologies, including hypertension, restenosis and atherosclerosis, are characterized by vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) hypertrophy and migration. NADPH oxidase 1 (Nox1) plays a pivotal role in these phenotypes via distinct downstream signaling. However, the mediators differentiating these distinct phenotypes and their precise role in vascular disease are still not clear. The present study was designed to identify novel targets of VSMC Nox1 signaling using 2D Differential In-Gel Electrophoresis and Mass Spectrometry (2D-DIGE/MS). VSMC treatment with scrambled (Scrmb) or Nox1 siRNA and incubation with the oxidant hydrogen peroxide (H2O2; 50 μM, 3 h) followed by 2D-DIGE/MS on cell lysates identified 10 target proteins. Among these proteins, actin-related protein 2/3 complex subunit 2 (ARPC2) with no previous link to Nox isozymes, H2O2, or other reactive oxygen species (ROS), was identified and postulated to play an intermediary role in VSMC migration. Western blot confirmed that Nox1 mediates H2O2-induced ARPC2 expression in VSMC. Treatment with a p38 MAPK inhibitor (SB203580) resulted in reduced ARPC2 expression in H2O2-treated VSMC. Additionally, wound-healing “scratch” assay confirmed that H2O2 stimulates VSMC migration via Nox1. Importantly, gene silencing of ARPC2 suppressed H2O2-stimulated VSMC migration. Butan‐1‐ol can be used as the solvent in the synthesis of poly(styrene‐co‐divinylbenzene‐co‐acrylic acid) microspheres by dispersion polymerization of a mixture of styrene, divinylbenzene (DVB), and acrylic acid (AA). Varying the proportion of the crosslinker DVB affects the size distribution and particle morphology profoundly, with 0.5–1.0% w/w producing spherical particles, whereas 2.0% w/w DVB produces irregular, concave morphologies. Varying the amount of AA from 5–7% w/w increases the average diameter of the spherical particles, whereas 9% w/w AA results in ovoid particles with dimpled surface morphology. In an optimized synthesis using 1.0% w/w DVB and 5% AA, uniform polymer microspheres with an average diameter of 0.8 µm and a coefficient of variation (CV) of diameter of 8.2% are produced. The use of a medium‐polarity solvent, such as butan‐1‐ol, as the solvent for dispersion polymerization will facilitate the incorporation of non‐polar moieties, such as organically‐passivated quantum dots, into the polymer during synthesis. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The influence of the immersion period on the crystallization of polycarbonate (PC) was investigated, and the resulting texture configurations of the crystal structures were reconstructed with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Analytical tools, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, the sessile drop technique, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, microtribometry, and ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry, were used to characterize crystallized PC and PDMS surfaces. We found that the crystallized PC surface possessed microsize/nanosize spherulites, voids, and fibrils, and the increasing immersion period increased the texture height and spherulite concentration at the surface. The residual stress in the crystallized PC wafer was compressive, and it was on the order of ?30 MPa. The friction coefficient of the crystallized PC surface remained lower than that of the as‐received PC wafer, and the increase in the immersion period lowered the friction coefficient. The crystallized PC surface demonstrated superhydrophobic characteristics, and the maximum contact angle occurred with 6 min of immersion. The PDMS exactly reconstructed the texture of the crystallized PC surface, except those of the nanofibrils and subnanofibrils. The droplet contact angle attained a higher values for the PDMS replicated surfaces than for those corresponding to the crystallized PC wafer. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Novel surfactant‐polymer (SP) formulations containing fluorinated amphoteric surfactant (surfactant‐A) and fluorinated anionic surfactant (surfactant‐B) with partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) were evaluated for enhanced oil recovery applications in carbonate reservoirs. Thermal stability, rheological properties, interfacial tension, and adsorption on the mineral surface were measured. The effects of the surfactant type, surfactant concentration, temperature, and salinity on the rheological properties of the SP systems were examined. Both surfactants were found to be thermally stable at a high temperature (90 °C). Surfactant‐B decreased the viscosity and the storage modulus of the HPAM. Surfactant‐A had no influence on the rheological properties of the HPAM. Surfactant‐A showed complete solubility and thermal stability in seawater at 90 °C. Only surfactant‐A was used in adsorption, interfacial tension, and core flooding experiments, since surfactant‐B was not completely soluble in seawater and therefore was limited to deionized water. A decrease in oil/water interfacial tension (IFT) of almost one order of magnitude was observed when adding surfactant‐A. However, betaine‐based co‐surfactant reduced the IFT to 10?3 mN/m. An adsorption isotherm showed that the maximum adsorption of surfactant‐A was 1 mg per g of rock. Core flooding experiments showed 42 % additional oil recovery using 2.5 g/L (2500 ppm) HPAM and 0.001 g/g (0.1 mass%) amphoteric surfactant at 90 °C. 相似文献

The electro‐activity and mechanical properties of PVDF depends mainly on the β‐phase content and degree of crystallinity. In this study, cellulose fibers were used to improve these characteristics. This could be achieved because the hydroxyl groups on cellulose would force the fluorine atoms in PVDF to be in the trans‐conformation, and the cellulose particles could act as nucleation centers. Electrospinning was used to prepare the PVDF/cellulose (nano)fibrous films, and this improved the total crystallinity and the formation of β‐crystals. However, the presence and amount of cellulose in PVDF were found to have little influence on the β‐phase content and on the total crystallinity of PVDF. Improvements in the extent of crystallinity and the β‐phase content were primarily brought about by the chain‐ and crystal orientation as a result of electrospinning. The thermal stability of PVDF in the composites slightly increased with increasing cellulose content in the composites up to 1.0 wt %, while the modulus and tensile strength significantly increased up to the same filler level. The dielectric storage permittivity also increased with increasing cellulose content, but the presence of cellulose had no influence on the dynamics of the γ‐ and β‐relaxations of the PVDF. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. There is a lack of thermal models for storage clusters; most existing thermal models do not take into account the utilization of hard drives (HDDs) and solid state disks (SSDs). To address this problem, we build a thermal model for hybrid storage clusters that are comprised of HDDs and SSDs. We start this study by generating the thermal profiles of hard drives and solid state disks. The profiling results show that both HDDs and SSDs have profound impacts on temperatures of storage nodes in a cluster. Next, we build two types of hybrid storage clusters, namely, inter-node and intra-node hybrid storage clusters. We develop a model to estimate the cooling cost of a storage cluster equipped with hybrid storage nodes. The thermal model is validated against data acquired by temperature sensors. Experimental results show that, compared to the HDD-first strategy, the SSD-first strategy is an efficient approach to minimize negative thermal impacts of hybrid storage clusters. 相似文献
