Software engineering tools based on Graph Transformation techniques are becoming available, but their practical applicability is somewhat reduced by the lack of idioms and design patterns. Idioms and design patterns provide prototypical solutions for recurring design problems in software engineering, but their use can be easily extended into software development using graph transformation systems. In this paper we briefly present a simple graph transformation language: GReAT, and show how typical design problems that arise in the context of model transformations can be solved using its constructs. Bio‐based laminate composites, consisting of alternatively stacked poly(lactic acid) (PLA) sheet and randomly oriented areca fiber mat, were processed via film stacking technique (FST). FST was chosen as it is a commercially viable, low energy‐intensive process for fabricating fiber‐reinforced composite, thereby advocating environmental sustainability. Laminate composites exhibited mechanical strength of 6.5 MPa at 16 wt % fiber loading. Crystallinity of as‐received PLA sheets was found to be 26% due to the presence of ~30 wt % inorganic filler, and showed further enhancement to 50% upon the addition of 22 wt % areca fiber. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed higher glass transition temperature (83 °C) for PLA sheets, mainly due to the presence of higher filler content. This work demonstrates the use of bio‐based laminate composite processed at the lowest possible temperatures as viable alternatives to thermoplastic polyolefins in automobiles. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pozzolanic mineral additives, such as silica fume (SF) and metakaolin (MK), are used to partially replace cement in concrete. This study employs extensive experimentation and simulations to elucidate and contrast the influence of SF and MK on the early age hydration rates of tricalcium silicate (triclinic C3S), the major phase in cement. Results show that at low replacement levels (i.e., ≤10%), both SF and MK accelerate C3S hydration rates via the filler effect, that is, enhanced heterogeneous nucleation of the main hydration product (C–S–H: calcium‐silicate‐hydrate) on the extra surfaces provided by the additive. The filler effect of SF is inferior to that of MK because of agglomeration of the fine particles of SF, which causes significant reduction (i.e., up to 97%) in its surface area. At higher replacement levels (i.e., ≥20%), while SF continues to serve as a filler, the propensity of MK to allow nucleation of C–S–H on its surface is substantially suppressed. This reversal in the filler effect of MK is attributed to the abundance of aluminate [Al(OH)4?] ions in the solution—released from the dissolution of MK—which inhibit topographical sites for C–S–H nucleation and impede its subsequent growth. Results also show that in the first 24 hours of hydration, MK is a superior pozzolan compared to SF. However, the pozzolanic activities of both SF and MK are limited and, thus, do not produce significant alterations in the early age hydration kinetics of C3S. Overall, the outcomes of this study provide novel insights into the mechanistic origins of the filler and pozzolanic effects of SF and MK, and their impact on cementitious reaction rates. 相似文献

Cognitive radio and small cells are the promising techniques to minimize energy consumption and satisfy the exponentially increasing data rates for the heterogeneous cellular network (HCN). In this paper, a theoretical framework is developed to calculate the outage probability of the HCN based on the opportunistic utilization of the traditional cellular bandwidth and television white space (TVWS) for the cognitive femto base stations. This work investigates overlay, underlay, mixed overlay-underlay based two tiers cognitive HCN. It also investigates the impact of the TVWS in the overlay-TVWS mixed spectrum sharing technique (SST). Tools from stochastic geometry are used to model cognitive HCN. Furthermore, the tier selection probability, average ergodic rate, area spectral efficiency (ASE), and energy efficiency (EE) of the HCN are also calculated for different SSTs. Numerical results show that mixed SST achieves a significant reduction in tier outage probability and total outage probability as compared to underlay and overlay techniques alone. It is also demonstrated that compared to the traditional single tier network, cognitive based HCN can improve the total ASE and EE of the order of \(10^{2}\) and 10, respectively. 相似文献

Tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) exhibits significant p-i-n forward leakage with the increase in drain-to-source voltage bias, and this adversely impacts the power consumption and reliability of TFET digital circuits. This work presents low-power circuit techniques that result in novel compact gates and recommends tristate gates to mitigate the leakage effects. The proposed novel compact gates and tristate gates demonstrate two and six times lower power consumption compared with conventional TFET transmission gates with enhanced reliability. Further, this work introduces a new design methodology that leverages TFET p-i-n forward leakage for hardware obfuscation applications. Utilizing the proposed design methodology, the optimization of 40% and 80% in area and power consumption of hardware security primitives like true random number generators is also accomplished. 相似文献

The spurt of growth in the wind energy industry has led to the development of many new technologies to study this energy resource and improve the efficiency of wind turbines. One of the key factors in wind farm characterization is the prediction of power output of the wind farm that is a strong function of the turbulence in the wind speed and direction. A new formulation for calculating the expected power from a wind turbine in the presence of wind shear, turbulence, directional shear and direction fluctuations is presented. It is observed that wind shear, directional shear and direction fluctuations reduce the power producing capability, while turbulent intensity increases it. However, there is a complicated superposition of these effects that alters the characteristics of the power estimate that indicates the need for the new formulation. Data from two field experiments is used to estimate the wind power using the new formulation, and results are compared to previous formulations. Comparison of the estimates of available power from the new formulation is not compared to actual power outputs and will be a subject of future work. © 2015 The Authors. Bacterial cellulose is a naturally occurring polysaccharide with numerous biomedical applications that range from drug delivery platforms to tissue engineering strategies. BC possesses remarkable biocompatibility, microstructure, and mechanical properties that resemble native human tissues, making it suitable for the replacement of damaged or injured tissues. In this review, we will discuss the structure and mechanical properties of the BC and summarize the techniques used to characterize these properties. Evaluation of the adequacy of a test set consisting of one or more test cases is a problem oftes encountered in software testing environments. Two test adequacy criiteria are considered, namely the data flow based all-uses criterion and a mutation based criterion. An empirical study was conducted to compare the ‘difficulty’ of satisfying the two criteria and their costs. Similar studies conducted in the past are discussed in the light of this study. In order to extend shelf life of rice and coffee, drying can be conducted to minimize water content so that chemical and biological changes can be retarded. Several models have been proposed to model drying of coffee and rice. For design of dryer and evaluation of dryer performance, the effective and physically meaningful drying model should be implemented. The reaction engineering approach (REA) is applied in this study to model convective drying of coffee as well as convective and intermittent drying of rice. The REA is a unique approach to model drying; the physics of drying is captured by the relative activation energy which can be generated only from one accurate drying experiment. The relative activation energy can be applied to other conditions of drying provided the same material and similar initial moisture content. Results indicate that the REA describes the convective and intermittent drying of rice and coffee very well. 相似文献

The extent to which spatial constraints influence rates and pathways in catalysis depends on the structure of intermediates, transition states, and active sites involved. We aim to answer, as we seek insights into catalytic mechanisms and site requirements, persistent questions about the potential for controlling rates and selectivities by rational design of spatial constraints around active sites within inorganic structures useful as catalysts. This Account addresses these matters for the specific case of reactions on zeolites that contain Br?nsted acid sites encapsulated within subnanometer channels. We compare and contrast here the effects of local zeolite structure on the dynamics of the carbonylation of surface methyl groups and of the isotopic exchange of CD4 with surface OH groups on zeolites. Methyl and hydroxyl groups are the smallest monovalent cations relevant in catalysis by zeolites. Their small size, taken together with their inability to desorb except via reactions with other species, allowed us to discriminate between stabilization of cationic transition states and stabilization of adsorbed reactants and products by spatial constraints. We show that apparent effects of proton density and of zeolite channel structure on dimethyl ether carbonylation turnover rates reflect instead the remarkable specificity of eight-membered ring zeolite channels in accelerating kinetically relevant steps that form *COCH3 species via CO insertion into methyl groups. This specificity reflects the selective stabilization of cationic transition states via interactions with framework oxygen anions. These findings for carbonylation catalysts contrast sharply the weak effects of channel structure on the rate of exchange of CD4 with OH groups. This latter reaction involves concerted symmetric transition states with much lower charge than that required for CH3 carbonylation. Our Account extends the scope of shape selectivity concepts beyond those reflecting size exclusion and preferential adsorption. Our ability to discriminate among various effects of spatial constraints depends critically on dissecting chemical conversions into elementary steps of kinetic relevance and on eliminating secondary reactions and accounting for the concomitant effects of zeolite structure on the stability of adsorbed reactants and intermediates. 相似文献
