Blending is both the strength and the weakness of functionally based implicit surfaces (such as F‐reps or soft‐objects). While it gives them the unique ability to smoothly merge into a single, arbitrary shape, it makes implicit modelling hard to control since implicit surfaces blend at a distance, in a way that heavily depends on the slope of the field functions that define them. This paper presents a novel, generic solution to blending of functionally‐based implicit surfaces: the insight is that to be intuitive and easy to control, blends should be located where two objects overlap, while enabling other parts of the objects to come as close to each other as desired without being deformed. Our solution relies on automatically defined blending regions around the intersection curves between two objects. Outside of these volumes, a clean union of the objects is computed thanks to a new operator that guarantees the smoothness of the resulting field function; meanwhile, a smooth blend is generated inside the blending regions. Parameters can automatically be tuned in order to prevent small objects from blurring out when blended into larger ones, and to generate a progressive blend when two animated objects come in contact. 相似文献

To get more results or greater accuracy, computational scientists execute their applications on distributed computing platforms such as clusters, grids, and clouds. These platforms are different in terms of hardware and software resources as well as locality: some span across multiple sites and multiple administrative domains, whereas others are limited to a single site/domain. As a consequence, in order to scale their applications up, the scientists have to manage technical details for each target platform. From our point of view, this complexity should be hidden from the scientists, who, in most cases, would prefer to focus on their research rather than spending time dealing with platform configuration concerns.In this article, we advocate for a system management framework that aims to automatically set up the whole run-time environment according to the applications’ needs. The main difference with regards to usual approaches is that they generally only focus on the software layer whereas we address both the hardware and the software expectations through a unique system. For each application, scientists describe their requirements through the definition of a virtual platform (VP) and a virtual system environment (VSE). Relying on the VP/VSE definitions, the framework is in charge of (i) the configuration of the physical infrastructure to satisfy the VP requirements, (ii) the set-up of the VP, and (iii) the customization of the execution environment (VSE) upon the former VP. We propose a new formalism that the system can rely upon to successfully perform each of these three steps without burdening the user with the specifics of the configuration for the physical resources, and system management tools. This formalism leverages Goldberg’s theory for recursive virtual machines (Goldberg, 1973 [6]) by introducing new concepts based on system virtualization (identity, partitioning, aggregation) and emulation (simple, abstraction). This enables the definition of complex VP/VSE configurations without making assumptions about the hardware and the software resources. For each requirement, the system executes the corresponding operation with the appropriate management tool.As a proof of concept, we implemented a first prototype that currently interacts with several system management tools (e.g., OSCAR, the Grid’5000 toolkit, and XtreemOS) and that can be easily extended to integrate new resource brokers or cloud systems such as Nimbus, OpenNebula, or Eucalyptus, for instance. 相似文献

This paper presents a method for detecting a textured deformed surface in an image. It uses (wide-baseline) point matches
between a template and the input image. The main contribution of the paper is twofold. First, we propose a robust method based
on local surface smoothness capable of discarding outliers from the set of point matches. Our method handles large proportions
of outliers (beyond 70% with less than 15% of false positives) even when the surface self-occludes. Second, we propose a method
to estimate a self-occlusion resistant warp from point matches. Our method allows us to realistically retexture the input
image. A pixel-based (direct) registration approach is also proposed. Bootstrapped by our robust point-based method, it finely
tunes the warp parameters using the value (intensity or color) of all the visible surface pixels. The proposed framework was
tested with simulated and real data. Convincing results are shown for the detection and retexturing of deformed surfaces in

Navigating complex routes and finding objects of interest are challenging tasks for the visually impaired. The project NAVIG (Navigation Assisted by artificial VIsion and GNSS) is directed toward increasing personal autonomy via a virtual augmented reality system. The system integrates an adapted geographic information system with different classes of objects useful for improving route selection and guidance. The database also includes models of important geolocated objects that may be detected by real-time embedded vision algorithms. Object localization (relative to the user) may serve both global positioning and sensorimotor actions such as heading, grasping, or piloting. The user is guided to his desired destination through spatialized semantic audio rendering, always maintained in the head-centered reference frame. This paper presents the overall project design and architecture of the NAVIG system. In addition, details of a new type of detection and localization device are presented. This approach combines a bio-inspired vision system that can recognize and locate objects very quickly and a 3D sound rendering system that is able to perceptually position a sound at the location of the recognized object. Bone metastasis remains the most frequent and the deadliest complication of prostate cancer (PCa). Mechanisms leading to the homing of tumor cells to bone remain poorly characterized. Role of chemokines in providing navigational cues to migrating cancer cells bearing specific receptors is well established. Bone is an adipocyte-rich organ since 50 to 70% of the adult bone marrow (BM) volume comprise bone marrow adipocytes (BM-Ads), which are likely to produce chemokines within the bone microenvironment. Using in vitro migration assays, we demonstrated that soluble factors released by human primary BM-Ads are able to support the directed migration of PCa cells in a CCR3-dependent manner. In addition, we showed that CCL7, a chemokine previously involved in the CCR3-dependent migration of PCa cells outside of the prostate gland, is released by human BM-Ads. These effects are amplified by obesity and ageing, two clinical conditions known to promote aggressive and metastatic PCa. In human tumors, we found an enrichment of CCR3 in bone metastasis vs. primary tumors at mRNA levels using Oncomine microarray database. In addition, immunohistochemistry experiments demonstrated overexpression of CCR3 in bone versus visceral metastases. These results underline the potential importance of BM-Ads in the bone metastatic process and imply a CCR3/CCL7 axis whose pharmacological interest needs to be evaluated. 相似文献

Changes in a number of morphological and biochemical parameters were observed in genetically obese Zucker rats and in lean
controls between 3 and 58 weeks of age. By 3 weeks, the genetically obese rats had higher proportional (wt/100 g body wt)
and absolute amounts of adipose tissue, hyperlipemia affecting all the lipid fractions, and hyperproteinemia compared to lean
controls. Obesity, hepatomegaly, high concentrations of hepatic lipids and hyperinsulinemia did not appear until the fifth
week. In obese animals, liver lipid concentration reached a maximum at 17 weeks of age and then declined. During this time,
the triacylglycerol concentrations in the serum remained stable, whereas the cholesterol and phospholipid concentrations continued
to increase. The glycogen concentration in obese animals increased, both absolutely and compared to lean controls, between
the 12th and 43rd week of age. From weaning, the Zucker rats, compared to lean controls, exhibited characteristics of obesity
