Previous work by this research group has shown that the use of a lubricated skin/core flow of polymer melts and a hyperbolic converging die results in an essentially pure elongational flow at a constant elongational strain rate in the core. The previous work was carried out on a laboratory-scale coextrusion system in a planar slit die; tracer particles and an image analysis system were used to confirm the predicted behavior. In this work, the technique was implemented first on the coextruder assembly, as a planar elongational rheometer, and then on a commercial capillary rheometer, as a uniaxial elongational rheometer for polymer melts. The later is achieved by replacing the standard capillary die with a hyperbolic axisymmetric die. A two-laycred billet is prepared for placement in the rheometer barrel by completely encapsulating the core polymer (the polymer to be analyzed) with a low-viscosity polyethylene skin. Commercial grades of polypropylenes, syndiotactic polystyrene, and nylon-66 were analyzed using this technique. Elongational viscosity at high extensional rates can be determined with this method; values in excess of 500 s−1 have already been achieved. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

This article introduces the idea of using nonmonotonic inheritance networks for the storage and maintenance of knowledge discovered in data (revisable knowledge discovery in databases). While existing data mining strategies for knowledge discovery in databases typically involve initial structuring through the use of identification trees and the subsequent extraction of rules from these trees for use in rule-based expert systems, such strategies have difficulty in coping with additional information which may conflict with that already used for the automatic generation of rules. In the worst case, the entire automatic sequence may have to be repeated. If nonmonotonic inheritance networks are used instead of rules for storing knowledge discovered in databases, additional conflicting information can be inserted directly into such structures, thereby bypassing the need for recompilation. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

An assessment of the pollution status of Museum Lake in the Thiruvananthapuram Botanical Garden and Museum was conducted. Analysis of different community structures of the planktonic taxa in the lake revealed it is organically polluted, attributable to the organic litter from riparian vegetation. A total of 30 most pollution‐tolerant phytoplankton genera and 24 pollution‐tolerant species were identified. Pollution‐tolerant phytoplankton genera in the lake included Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Cyanophyceae and Euglenophyceae. Scenedesmus, Pinnularia, Euglena, Ankistrodesmus, Closterium, Crucigenia, Kirchneriella, Merismopedia and Oscillatoria were some of the phytoplankton pollution tolerant genera whereas, Nitzschia palea, Synedra acus, Scenedesmus quadricauda, Pandorina morum and Trachelomonas volvocina were some of the pollution tolerant species noted. Excessive nutrient loading from the surrounding area is definitely degrading the quality of this urban lake ecosystem. Detailed information regarding the pollution status of a waterbody is very important in this regard, noting it ultimately assists in undertaking proper management of a waterbody. The Palmer Algal Index score for Museum Lake was 37, indicating it is highly organic enriched. The results of different algal indices (e.g. Chlorophycean Index; Nygaard Index) indicated a eutrophic condition for Museum Lake, being attributed to its increased organic enrichment. Canonical correspondence analysis between environmental variables and the microalgal bioindicators also highlighted the influence of the physical and chemical parameters on phytoplankton abundance and distribution in Museum Lake.  相似文献

The capabilities of existing ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods for the strength-related properties of bonds in structural components is reviewed. The severe limitations of conventional NDE methods in yielding quantitative results are indicated. Some recent results of a joint theoretical and experimental program of research using leaky Lamb waves (LLW) in laboratory specimens are presented. The LLW technique is shown to have several advantages over conventional techniques. Potential applications of the technique to determine non-destructively the quality of bonds in a variety of models are discussed.  相似文献

We report on femtosecond photoluminescence spectroscopy of nanocrystalline diamond membranes (thickness ~ 1000 nm) prepared by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (CVD) technique. The decay of photoluminescence excited by the blue femtosecond light pulses (405 nm) reflects the photoexcited charge carrier dynamics in the sub-band gap energy states. The photoluminescence is strongly influenced by ambient conditions and by the laser irradiation (405 nm, 70 fs pulses). Under lower ambient air pressure (5–300 Pa) the photoluminescence intensity increases and the photoluminescence decay gets faster. For higher air pressures (> 600 Pa) the photoluminescence intensity decreases and the photoluminescence decay rates do not evolve. We interpret the observed different behaviour of the photoluminescence in the two air pressure intervals in terms of a thin water layer condensed on the surface at higher air pressures. Due to a low coverage of the sample surface by water molecules under low pressure the air species can be adsorbed to NCD and influence the sub-band gap energy states.  相似文献

Conditions for the solid-phase mechanochemical activation of coals, which make it possible to substantially increase the yield of water-soluble humic preparations enriched in humic acids and mineral elements, are given in this work. It was found that the humic preparations isolated from mechanically activated coals are characterized by an increase in the antioxidant activity and a change in the cationic and anionic composition. The concentration of acidic ionogenic groups in humic acids increased.  相似文献

The processing parameters have been optimized to achieve highly pure and fully dense pellets of calcium cobalt oxide (Ca3Co4O9) from solid-state ball milled calcium carbonate and cobalt oxide mixtures, calcined at optimized temperature and time, and consolidated by hot-pressing. The microscopic, spectroscopic, and thermal analysis suggest samples with longer ball-milling time require less calcination time for synthesizing highly pure crystalline phases of Ca3Co4O9, and provide 99.2 ± 0.5% relative density.  相似文献
