The mechanical and biodegradation properties of polyvinyl alcohol/lignin blended films have been studied. The biodegradable composite films were developed by mechanical mixing followed by film casting method using poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), with lignin in different compositions. The progress of biodegradation was evidenced by means of the soil burial test. There was also an evaluation of the weight loss of the samples at the end of the biodegradation process. Blending the PVA with lignin improves tensile strength and the modulus of elasticity and causes a slight decrease in the elongation at break. The best tensile mechanical properties of a PVA/lignin blend were at ratio 2:30 where the tensile strength was 38 MPa, elastic modulus 83.22 MPa and elongation at break 213.9%. Blends of various PVA/lignin ratios have shown transparency, flexibility and good mechanical properties. Film composites also showed good biodegradability. The addition of lignin to the PVA matrix increases the degradation rate of the blends. The weight loss is affected by the composition of the blend, and by the nature of the microorganisms in the soil. PVA/lignin film may be potentially suitable as eco-friendly packaging materials. 相似文献

Space heating load is decreasing in modern Finnish apartments due to lower U-values of the construction, tight envelopes and heat recovery from exhaust ventilation air. This makes it possible to develop a new combined low temperature water heating system with nominal supply/return water temperatures of 45 °C/35 °C. Such a system includes radiators in rooms and floor heating in bathrooms.In this study, the performance of an apartment building is determined by using dynamic simulation. The simulation results for the combined low temperature water heating system are compared with those for three conventional radiator and floor heating systems. The results show that the combined low temperature water heating system performs well and is able to maintain the zones within the required temperature levels. The thermal comfort analysis indicates that the drifts and ramps in operative temperature using the four studied heating systems are within the limits of Ashrae Standard 55-2004.Temperature measurements in a test room are carried out to find the vertical difference of air temperature using two methods: radiator heating and floor heating. These measurements indicate that there is only a small vertical temperature difference that would not produce any significant thermal discomfort. 相似文献

Microgravity impairs tissue organization and critical pathways involved in the cell–microenvironment interplay, where fibroblasts have a critical role. We exposed dermal fibroblasts to simulated microgravity by means of a Random Positioning Machine (RPM), a device that reproduces conditions of weightlessness. Molecular and structural changes were analyzed and compared to control samples growing in a normal gravity field. Simulated microgravity impairs fibroblast conversion into myofibroblast and inhibits their migratory properties. Consequently, the normal interplay between fibroblasts and keratinocytes were remarkably altered in 3D co-culture experiments, giving rise to several ultra-structural abnormalities. Such phenotypic changes are associated with down-regulation of α-SMA that translocate in the nucleoplasm, altogether with the concomitant modification of the actin-vinculin apparatus. Noticeably, the stress associated with weightlessness induced oxidative damage, which seemed to concur with such modifications. These findings disclose new opportunities to establish antioxidant strategies that counteract the microgravity-induced disruptive effects on fibroblasts and tissue organization. 相似文献

Chronic liver disease (CLD) is a global threat to the human population, with manifestations resulting from alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) and non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD). NAFLD, if not treated, may progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Furthermore, inflammation leads to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Vitexin, a natural flavonoid, has been recently reported for inhibiting NAFLD. It is a lipogenesis inhibitor and activates lipolysis and fatty acid oxidation. In addition, owing to its antioxidant properties, it appeared as a hepatoprotective candidate. However, it exhibits low bioavailability and low efficacy due to its hydrophobic nature. A novel rat model for liver cirrhosis was developed by CCL4/Urethane co-administration. Vitexin encapsulated liposomes were synthesized by the ‘thin-film hydration’ method. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was coated on liposomes to enhance stability and stealth effect. The diseased rats were then treated with vitexin and PEGylated vitexin liposomes, administered intravenously and orally. Results ascertained the liposomal encapsulation of vitexin and subsequent PEG coating to be a substantial strategy for treating liver cirrhosis through oral drug delivery. 相似文献

The objective of this paper is to study a method to achieve sub-wet bulb temperature by indirect evaporative cooling of air (without using a vapor compression machine). For this purpose, an analytical model is developed based on the effectiveness-NTU method (ε-NTU). The main idea for achieving a sub-wet bulb temperature by indirect evaporative cooling of air is by indirectly pre-cooling the working air before it enters the wet passage. It is shown that a modified analytical model for indirect evaporative coolers could be based on the ε-NTU method for sensible heat exchangers when proper adjustments are made by redefining the potential gradients, transfer coefficient, heat capacity rate parameters and assuming a linear saturation temperature-enthalpy relation of air. This modified model is used to find the performance of a regenerative indirect evaporative cooler. The model results show very good agreement with results from experimental measurements and a numerical model. 相似文献

Commercial dual-phase (DP) steel in sheet form and comprised of ferrite, martensite, and bainite was subjected to uniaxial
tension up to fracture. The damage characteristics were studied through extensive quantitative metallography and scanning
electron microscope (SEM) observations of polished sections and fracture surfaces of failed specimens. The observed void nucleation
mechanisms include nucleation at the martensite/ferrite interface or triple junction (most predominant), nucleation due to
the cracking of martensite particles, and nucleation at the inclusions. The void characteristics in terms of area fraction,
void density, void size ranges, and void orientations were analyzed as a function of thickness strain from various regions
of the different uniaxial tensile test specimens taken to fracture. The damage analysis suggests that the void nucleation
occurs during the entire deformation process with an almost constant rate and this rate reduces before fracture. A nucleation

analyte and in subsequent quantification by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Using HCl 0.10 mol L−1 as the extraction solution, the optimal conditions of extraction were found to be: granulometry of the sample <60 μm; a sonication
time of five cycles of 10 s and sonication power of 136 W. The method was applied in studies of the availability of iron in
four food sources used in the diet of Nile Tilapia. The results obtained with the proposed extraction method allowed us to
calculate the coefficients of apparent digestibility of iron in the food sources, which was not possible when using results

Lately software based virtual mobile voice over Internet Protocol (VMVoIP) services have become available to end-users which may endanger profit of regular telephone operators from phone calls. In this situation, telephone operators should decide on a proper mechanism for interconnection with such VMVoIP operators which secures mutual benefit of both operators. In this paper, we study both monopolistic and oligopolistic markets of VMVoIP in which a single VMVoIP and several VMVoIP operators available in the market respectively. We model the interaction among a phone operator, VMVoIP operators and end-users as a leader-follower dynamic game and find a sub-game perfect Nash equilibrium (SPNE) for the game. The SPNE shows the phone operator’s best pricing strategy (i.e., wholesale price for VMVoIP operators and retail price for end-users) and its best decision on the interconnection with VMVoIP operators. We further study economic interpretation of the SPNE. We show that in specific end-users’ demands, the phone operator may increase its total profit by allowing the interconnection and taking right price discrimination strategy. 相似文献

We demonstrate the use of the Integrated Volume Method (IVM) to estimate activity coefficients of semi-volatile organic compounds pertinent to ambient/atmospheric aerosols in binary mixtures. We generate binary solution aerosols with different mole fractions of individual components; for each mixture, we measure total change in aerosol volume upon heating from 25 ○ C to 35 ○ C, with the aerosols being at equilibrium in both states. The change in aerosol volume, or in other words, the partitioning between the particle phase and the gas phase, is used to determine activity coefficients of the compounds as a function of their mole fraction in the mixture. We demonstrate this method using the following four model systems. System 1: adipic acid–pimelic acid, which illustrates polar organic–polar organic interactions. Non-ideal behavior was observed with activity coefficients around three at infinite dilution. System 2: adipic acid–dioctyl sebacate, which illustrates polar organic–non-polar organic interactions. The compounds in this experiment did not form a solution. System 3: adipic acid–ammonium sulfate, which illustrates polar organic–inorganic interactions. The compounds in this experiment did not form a solution. System 4: adipic acid–ambient extracts, which illustrates the potential use of the method to study partitioning behavior of individual components in a complex matrix approximating that of real ambient aerosol. The measured activity coefficients of adipic acid were less than unity for the tested range of mixing ratios, indicating suppression of volatility of this compound in ambient organic matrix. 相似文献

The Nyquist robust sensitivity margin is proposed as a new scalar indicator of robust stability that also provides a meaningful quantitative assessment of the worst sensitivity realized by the uncertain closed loop. After formulating and discussing in detail the underlying optimization problem required for the calculation of the margin, the approach is applied to the characterization of the robust stability of a closed‐loop featuring a linear system with an affine uncertainty structure and a parametric uncertainty set described by a real rectangular polytope. The capabilities of the methodology are illustrated through examples, which include an approach for quantifying alternative robustness margins, such as a parametric stability margin.
