The authors review the techniques available for finding out the location and polarization of a radio source using antennas with low directivity, that is, electric or magnetic antennas with dimensions less than the wavelength. The use of such antennas is imposed by the combination of the low frequency of observation and of the dynamical constraints upon the antenna length particularly in the case of planetary probes. First they summarize the relationship of an arbitrary antenna to the parameters describing the radiation field, emphasizing the importance of the antenna polarization vector. The application of these results defines precisely the limited information available using short electric antennas. In principle, it is possible to determine the direction (except for the sense) and also the polarization of a point source, using either three such antennas on a three-axis stabilized spacecraft or two antennas on a spinning spacecraft. With a single antenna which is neither parallel nor perpendicular to the spin axis it is possible to determine the source direction with a πambiguity but not its complete polarization. If the single antenna is perpendicular to the spin axis (as is usually the case) only the great circle containing the source direction and the spin axis can be obtained, and this at the expense of assumptions about the source polarization. Source localization requires, in addition to the direction, either observations from another spacecraft or some assumption about the source mechanism and the spatial distribution of the relevant plasma parameters. The application of these methods to the observations of solar radio bursts and terrestrial kilometric radiations is presented.  相似文献

Infrared spectra (0.003 cm(-1) resolution) of 16O16O18O and 16O18O18O ozone isotopologues have been recorded and analyzed in the range 600-5000 cm(-1). Several thousand rovibrational lines belonging to 32 absorption bands have been measured and assigned. An accurate determination of band centers through the rovibrational analysis has been done, 12 bands being observed for the first time to our knowledge. In addition to atmospheric retrieval applications, these results are also useful for a validation of potential energy surfaces and for the study of isotope effects in dynamic processes of ozone.  相似文献

What actual weight do new economy and e-commerce have in the economies of developed countries? Most of the measures suggested come from consultant firms and reflect their representations of these phenomea (which vary greatly) more than reality. Moreover, new economy and e-commerce are badly-defined notions and consequently very difficult to measure. The paper reconsiders the definition of each one of these phenomena and analyzes the efforts carried out by the National Institutes of Statistics to measure them. It argues that the New Economy or more exactly the Digital Economy presents two sides. The first can be described as the sectors producing Information and Communication Technologies (equipment and services). The weight of these sectors is evaluated in terms of employment, added value,r&d expenditures… The second side is more difficult to measure because the impact oficts on all economic activities is involved. The paper shows that the generalized diffusion oficts is making increasingly difficult to isolate a specific phenomenon named Digital Economy. E-commerce is often reduced to on line sale, i.e. the addition of a new channel to mail order sale. However on line sale which has stagnated at 1 % of retail trade is far from exhausting all the transformations induced by theicts in commercial activities. It is better to speak about electronization of trade: all types of trade, and not only mail order sale, are affected by the diffusion oficts. In these conditions, it is becoming less and less relevant to base the measurement of e-commerce on the fact it is an activity distinct from the traditional retail trade.  相似文献

We present some theoretical and experimental results which suggest the possibility of constructing a non-empirical methodology of designing optical transmission systems with ultra high bit-rate per channel. Theoretically, we present an average dispersion decreasing densely dispersion-managed (A4dm) fiber system, which exhibits many advantages over the densely dispersion-managed fiber system, such as the possibility of transmitting chirp-free Gaussian pulses at 160 Gbit/s per channel over transoceanic distances, with a reduced energy and minimal intra-channel interaction. Experimentally we present generation of a 160-GHz picosecond pulse train at 1550 nm using multiple four-wave mixing temporal compression of an initial dual frequency beat signal in the anomalous-dispersion regime of a non-zero dispersion shifted fiber. A complete intensity and phase characterization of the pulse train by means of a frequency-resolved optical gating technique is achieved, showing generation of transform-limited pedestal-free Gaussian pulses.  相似文献

The primary objective of this study was to develop a computer-aided method for the quantification of three-dimensional (3-D) cartilage changes over time in knees with osteoarthritis (OA). We introduced a local coordinate system (LCS) for the femoral and tibial cartilage boundaries that provides a standardized representation of cartilage geometry, thickness, and volume. The LCS can be registered in different data sets from the same patient so that results can be directly compared. Cartilage boundaries are segmented from 3-D magnetic resonance (MR) slices with a semi-automated method and transformed into offset-maps, defined by the LCS. Volumes and thickness are computed from these offset-maps. Further anatomical labeling allows focal volumes to be evaluated in predefined subregions. The accuracy of the automated behavior of the method was assessed, without any human intervention, using realistic, synthetic 3-D MR images of a human knee. The error in thickness evaluation is lower than 0.12 mm for the tibia and femur. Cartilage volumes in anatomical subregions show a coefficient of variation ranging from 0.11% to 0.32%. This method improves noninvasive 3-D analysis of cartilage thickness and volume and is well suited for in vivo follow-up clinical studies of OA knees.  相似文献

Countercurrent chromatography (CCC) is a liquid chromatography technique with a liquid stationary phase. Taking advantage of the liquid nature of the stationary phase, it is possible to perform unique operations not possible in classical liquid chromatography with a solid stationary phase. It is easy to avoid any solute-irreversible absorption in the CCC column. If the retention volumes of solutes become too high, the dual mode will be used. The roles of the phases are reversed. The stationary phase becomes the mobile phase, and the CCC column is started again. The solutes elute rapidly in what was previously the stationary phase. The theoretical basis of the dual-mode method is recalled. The dual-mode method is a discontinuous method. The separation should be stopped when the phase switch is performed. The elution-extrusion procedure is another way to avoid any irreversible adsorption of solutes in the column. The method uses the fact that the liquid volumes occupied by the solutes highly retained inside the column can be orders of magnitude lower than the mobile-phase volume that would be needed to elute them. The elution-extrusion method also has two steps: the first step is a regular CCC chromatogram. Next, the stationary phase containing the partially separated hydrophobic solutes is extruded out of the column in a continuous way using the liquid stationary phase. The theory of the process is developed and compared to the dual-mode theory. Alkylbenzene homologues are experimentally used as model compounds with the heptane/methanol/water biphasic liquid system to establish the theoretical treatment and compare the performance of two types, hydrodynamic and hydrostatic, of CCC columns. It is shown that the method can dramatically boost the separation power of the CCC technique. An apparent efficiency higher than 20 000 plates was obtained for extruded octylbenzene and a 160-mL hydrodynamic CCC column with less than 500 plates when conventionally used.  相似文献

Fixation of heavy metal ions (Cd(II) and Pb(II)) onto sawdust of Pinus sylvestris is presented in this paper. Batch experiments were conducted to study the main parameters such as adsorbent concentration, initial adsorbate concentration, contact time, kinetic, pH solution, and stirring velocity on the sorption of Cd(II) and Pb(II) by sawdust of P. sylvestris. Kinetic aspects are studied in order to develop a model which can describe the process of adsorption on sawdust. The equilibrium of a solution between liquid and solid phases is described by Langmuir model. Scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) shows that the process is controlled by a porous diffusion with ion-exchange. The capacity of the metal ions to bind onto the biomass was 96% for Cd(II), and 98% for Pb(II). The sorption followed a pseudo-second-order kinetics. The adsorption of these heavy metals ions increased with the pH and reached a maximum at a 5.5 value. From these results, it can be concluded that the sawdust of P. sylvestris could be a good adsorbent for the metal ions coming from aqueous solutions. Moreover, this material could also be used for purification of water before rejection into the natural environment.  相似文献

We demonstrate theoretically a polarization-independent guided-mode resonant filter with only a one dimensional grating. A rigorous method, the modal method by Fourier expansion, is used to compute the diffracted efficiencies of the grating. Wave-vector analysis fails to correctly design a polarization-independent structure. We show that a rigorous analysis of the resonances must be employed to obtain such a device; using a pole approach, we study the effects of grating parameters on the resonances of both polarizations.  相似文献

The terminal events leading to periprosthetic osteolysis are multifactorial in nature and modulation of this process after the stage of osteolytic mediator release has been futile. Recently, the demonstration of the ability of bisphosphonates to inhibit bone resorption that is mediated by particle-stimulated macrophages and their induction of osteoclast apoptosis suggests a potent area for modulation of osteolysis at the prosthesis-bone interface. The purpose of this study was to determine the mode of cell death that occurs at the osteolytic interface of failed total hip arthroplasty (THA). TUNEL staining, DNA laddering, and immunodetection of poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase (PARP) protein were used to identify the presence of apoptosis in interface membranes from 25 patients aged 28–88 years old (mean, 58 years) harvested at the time of hip revision surgery. Our results demonstrated positive TUNEL stain in 100% of specimens with an average 37% of cells (range 12–60%) positively stained for TUNEL whereas less than 8% of control tissue cells showed positive staining. DNA laddering, a characteristic feature of apoptotic cells, was observed in 82% (28/34) of specimens studied at both the acetabular and femoral side of aseptically loose THAs. No laddering was observed in control tissues. Finally, using Western blot analysis, we observed the appearance of the 89 kDa PARP fragment associated with apoptosis in 92% of specimens (30/33). Our results demonstrate the presence of apoptotic cell death in interface membranes of THAs suggesting that apoptosis-related events are indeed associated with periprosthetic osteolysis and could serve as a specific target point for therapeutic modulation. © 2001 Kluwer Academic Publishers  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to describe some of the main problems concerning assembly line design. The focus will be on the following steps: (1) the input data preparation, (2) the elaboration of the logical layout of the line, which consists in the distribution of operations among stations along the line and an assignment of resources to the different stations, (3) finally the mapping phase using a simulation package to check the obtained results. This work presents a new method to tackle the hybrid assembly line design, dealing with multiple objectives. The goal is to minimize the total cost of the line by integrating design (station space, cost, etc.) and operation issues (cycle time, precedence constraints, availability, etc.). This paper also presents in detail a very promising approach to solve multiple objective problems. It is a multiple objective grouping genetic algorithm hybridized with the multicriteria decision-aid method PROMETHEE II. An approach to deal with users preferences in design problems is also introduced. The essential concepts adopted by the method are described and its application to an industrial case study is presented.  相似文献
