The last two decades have witnessed a phenomenal growth in the number of cellular wireless network users which in turn stressed the need to utilize the limited network bandwidth in an efficient manner. The network bandwidth is consumed not only by user traffic, but also by control traffic needed for ensuring the mobility of users. As we don’t have any control over the volume of user traffic, all attempts to efficiently use bandwidth are based on frequency reuse and minimizing the control traffic. The registration area planning (RAP) problem seeks a partition of the cells of the network into contiguous areas called registration areas so that the bandwidth consumed by control signals is minimized. RAP problem in an \(\mathcal {NP}\) -Hard problem. In this paper, we present a steady-state grouping genetic algorithm with local search to solve this problem. We have compared our approach with the state-of-the-art approaches reported in the literature. Computational results show the effectiveness of our approach.  相似文献

Formation of nanocrystalline calcia from calcite has been studied in situ via transmission electron microscopy. The crystallographic transformation occurred via two mechanisms: the first is by distortion of the cleaved rhombohedron of calcite, formed by {104} planes in hexagonal coordinates, into a cube. This produced a microstructure of oriented, elongated nanocrystals of calcia with planar boundaries. In the second mechanism, the micrometer-sized parent calcite particles broke up into nano-sized grains as the decomposition began, leading to irregularly shaped, randomly oriented nanocrystals of calcia.  相似文献

An operational global soil moisture data product is currently generated from the observations of the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) aboard NASA's Aqua satellite using the retrieval procedure described in Njoku and Chan [Njoku, E.G. and Chan, S.K., 2006. Vegetation and surface roughness effects on AMSR-E land observations, remote sensing environment, 100(2), 190-199]. We have generated another soil moisture dataset from the same AMSR-E observed brightness temperature data using the Land Surface Microwave Emission Model (LSMEM) adopting a different estimation method. This paper focuses on a comparison study of soil moisture estimates from the above two methods. The soil moisture data from current AMSR-E product and LSMEM are compared with the in-situ measured soil moisture datasets over the Little River Experimental Watershed (LREW), Georgia, USA for the year 2003. The comparison study was carried out separately for the AMSR-E daytime and night time overpasses. The LSMEM method performed better than the current operational AMSR-E retrieval algorithm in this study. The differences between the AMSR-E and LSMEM results are mostly due to differences in various simplifications and assumptions made for variables in the radiative transfer equations and the soil and vegetation based physical models and the accuracy of the input surface temperature datasets for the LSMEM forward model approach. This study confirms that remote sensing data have the potential to provide useful hydrologic information, but the accuracy of the geophysical parameters could vary depending on the estimation methods. It cannot be concluded from this study whether the soil moisture estimation by the LSMEM approach will perform better in other geographic, climatic or topographic conditions. Nevertheless, this study sheds light on the effects of different approaches for the estimation of geophysical parameters, which may be useful for current and future satellite missions.  相似文献

Coating gold nanorods (GNRs) with polyelectrolytes is an effective approach to make them biocompatible for potential use in photothermal treatment (PTT) of cancer. The authors report the effect of coating of the GNRs with polystyrene sulphonate (PSS‐GNRs) and PSS plus poly di‐allyl di‐methyl ammonium chloride (PDDAC‐GNRs) on its photothermal conversion efficiency (PTE), cellular uptake and subsequently the photothermal induced cytotoxicity in human oral cancer cells (NT8e). Coating of GNRs with PSS led to decrease in PTE by ∼30% and further coating it with PDDAC led to its increase to similar level, with respect to as‐ prepared GNRs. The cellular uptake of PDDAC‐GNRs in cancer cells was double than that for PSS‐GNRs. PTT of cancer cells after treatment with 60 pM of either PDDAC‐GNRs or PSS‐GNRs resulted in cytotoxicty of ∼90%. At higher concentration of 120 pM, while PSS‐GNRs showed no further change, for PDDAC‐GNR the photothermal induced cytotoxicity decreased to ∼50%. The broadening of longitudinal surface plasmon peak of PDDAC‐GNRs and appearance of dark clusters in cells under bright‐field microscope suggested intracellular clustering of PDDAC‐GNRs. Multi-stage molding is capable of producing better-quality articulated products at a lower cost. During the multi-stage molding process, assembly operations are performed along with the molding operations. Hence, it gives rise to a new type of planning problem. It is difficult to perform the planning manually because it involves evaluating large number of combinations and solving complex geometric reasoning problems. This paper investigates the problem of generating multi-stage molding plans for articulated assemblies. We present a planning framework that allows us to utilize constraints from experimentally proven molding plans. As a part of the planning problem, we determine the molding sequence and intermediate assembly configurations. We present algorithms for all the steps in the planning problem and characterize their computational complexities. Finally, we illustrate our approach with representative examples.  相似文献

A 33.7 MHz heavy-ion radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) linear accelerator has been designed, built, and tested. It is a four-rod-type RFQ designed for acceleration of 1.38 keVu, qA> or =116 ions to about 29 keVu. Transmission efficiencies of about 85% and 80% have been measured for the unanalyzed and analyzed beams, respectively, of oxygen ((16)O(2+), (16)O(3+), (16)O(4+)), nitrogen ((14)N(3+), (14)N(4+)), and argon ((40)Ar(4+)). The system design and measurements along with results of beam acceleration test will be presented.  相似文献

We propose a new conceptual model for understanding technology evolution that highlights dynamic and highly interdependent relationships among multiple technologies. We argue that, instead of considering technologies in isolation, technology evolution is best viewed as a dynamic system or ecosystem that includes a variety of interrelated technologies. By considering the interdependent nature of technology evolution, we identify three roles that technologies play within a technology ecosystem. These roles are components, products and applications, and support and infrastructure. Technologies within an ecosystem interact through these roles and impact each others’ evolution. We also classify types of interactions between technology roles, which we term paths of influence. We demonstrate the use of our proposed model through examples of wireless networking (Wi-Fi) technologies and a business mini-case on the digital music industry.

In this paper we explore and analyze the structure of Internet auctions from an analytical and an empirical perspective. Such web‐based auctions are rapidly emerging as a mercantile process of choice in the electronic marketplace. We observe current Internet auctions for one‐time products, such as rapidly aging hardware, and analyze them within the framework of the existing auction theory. While traditional auction theory focuses on single‐item auctions, we observe that a majority of on‐line auctions are multi‐item auctions. A significant contribution of this work is the theoretical derivation of the structure of the winning bids in multi‐item progressive on‐line auctions. Additionally, for comparative purposes, we explore the structural characteristics of alternative multi‐item auction mechanisms proposed in the auction theory. We derive hypotheses based on our analytical results and compare two different types of auction mechanisms. We test the traditional auction theory assumption regarding the homogeneity of bidders and present the first ever empirically derived classification and performance‐comparison of on‐line bidders. We test our hypotheses using real‐world empirical data obtained by tracking a premier web‐based auction site. Statistical analysis of the data indicates that firms may gain by choosing alternative auction mechanisms. We also provide directions for further exploration of this emerging but important dimension of electronic commerce.
