Several studies have shown that fruits and vegetables contribute to protect against degenerative pathologies such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer, mainly due to the presence of dietary fiber (DF) and polyphenols. Taioba (Xanthosoma sagittifolium) is an edible aroid widely grown in many parts of Africa, America, and Asia. The tubers portions of taioba are widely consumed; however, the leafy portions are generally discarded, despite their high nutritive value. In this study, we have partly characterized the DF of lyophiized taioba leaf (LTL), and assessed the possible protective effects on biochemical parameters and on bile acid (BA) production in colon and cecum, when fed to healthy rats for 4 wk. Forty‐five Wistar rats were assigned to either of 5 groups: group 1 received AIN 93G diet (CG: Control); group 2 received AIN 93G containing 2.5% of cellulose + 2.5% inulin (CEIN_5%); group 3 received AIN 93G containing 2.5% of cellulose + 2.5% taioba fiber (CETA_5%); group 4 received AIN 93G containing 5% cellulose + 2.5% taioba fiber (CETA_7.5%); group 5 received AIN 93G containing 5% cellulose + 2.5% of inulin (CEIN_7.5%). LTL showed high contents of total fiber, predominantly comprising insoluble DF with glucose as the major monomer. Rats receiving LTL had increased fecal mass and fat excretion, and improved BA profiles by diminishing the proportion of secondary acids, thus suggesting that consumption of taioba leaf may have the property of lowering the risk of colon cancer. 相似文献

Six sample lots of loquat commercialized in Campinas, Brazil were analyzed for their carotenoid composition beta-carotene (7.8 micrograms/g), zeta-carotene (0.1 micrograms/g), neurosporene (1.1 micrograms/g), beta-cryptoxanthin (4.8 micrograms/g), 5,6-monoepoxy-beta-cryptoxanthin (0.6 micrograms/g), violaxanthin (1.6 micrograms/g), (0.8 micrograms/g) and auroxanthin (0.9 micrograms/g) were identified beta-Carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin were the principal pigments, being responsible for 44% and 27%, respectively, of the total carotenoid content (17.6 micrograms/g). Both were also the principal contributors to the vitamin A value of 175 RE/100g. The carotenoid composition of the Brazilian loquat resembles that of the Japanese loquat variety Tanaka. 相似文献

The increasing incidence of infectious outbreaks from contaminated food and water supply continues imposing a global burden for food safety, creating a market demand for on‐site, disposable, easy‐to‐use, and cost‐efficient devices. Despite of the rapid growth of biosensors field and the generation of breakthrough technologies, more than 80% of the platforms developed at lab‐scale never will get to meet the market. This work aims to provide a cost‐efficient, reliable, and repeatable approach for the detection of foodborne pathogens in real samples. For the first time an optimized inkjet printing platform is proposed taking advantage of a carefully controlled nanopatterning of novel carboxyl‐functionalized aptameric ink on a nitrocellulose substrate for the highly efficient detection of E. coli O157:H7 (25 colony forming units (CFU) mL?1 in pure culture and 233 CFU mL?1 in ground beef) demonstrating the ability to control the variation within ±1 SD for at least 75% of the data collected even at very low concentrations. From the best of the knowledge this work reports the lowest limit of detection of the state of the art for paper‐based optical detection of E. coli O157:H7, with enough evidence (p > 0.05) to prove its high specificity at genus, species, strain, and serotype level. 相似文献

Carbon materials, including amorphous carbon, graphite, carbon nanospheres (CNSs) and different types of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) [platelet, herringbone and ribbon], were chemically activated using KOH. The pore structure of carbon materials was analyzed using N2/77 K adsorption isotherms. The presence of oxygen groups was analyzed by temperature programmed desorption in He and acid–base titration. The structural order of the materials was studied by X-ray diffraction and temperature programmed oxidation. The morphology and diameter distribution of CNFs and CNSs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy. The materials were also characterized by temperature-desorption programmed of H2 and elemental composition. The ways in which the different structures were activated are described, showing the type of pores generated. Relationships between carbon yield, removed carbon, activation degree and graphitic character were also examined. The oxygen content in the form of oxygen-containing surface groups increased after the activation giving qualitative information about them. The average diameter of both CNFs and CNSs was decreased after the activation process as consequence of the changes produced on the material surface. 相似文献

The aim of this work is the improvement of the electrochemical behavior of 4140 steel substrate using TiCN/TiNbCN multilayered system as a protective coating. We have grown [TiCN/TiNbCN]n multilayered via reactive r.f. magnetron sputtering technique in which was varied systematically the bilayer period (Λ), and the bilayer number (n), maintaining constant the total thickness of the coatings (~ 3 μm). The coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy, electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy assisted with selected area electron diffraction. The electrochemical properties were studied by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and Tafel curves. XRD results showed a preferential growth in the face-centered cubic (111) crystal structure for [TiCN/TiNbCN]n multilayered coatings [1]. In this work was obtained the maximum corrosion resistance for the coating with (Λ) equal to 15 nm, corresponding to n = 200 bilayered. The polarization resistance and corrosion rate were around 8.6 kOhm cm2 and 7.59 · 10− 4 mm/year, these values were 8.6 and 0.001 times better than those showed by the uncoated 4140 steel substrate (1.0 kOhm and 0.57 mm/year), respectively. The improvement of the electrochemical behavior of the 4140 coated with this TiCN/TiNbCN multilayered system can be attributed to the presence of several interfaces that act as obstacles for the inward and outward diffusions of Cl- ion species, generating an increment in the energy or potential required for translating the corrosive ions across the coating/substrate interface. Moreover, the interface systems affect the means free path on the ions toward the metallic substrate, due to the decreasing of the defects presented in the multilayered coatings. 相似文献

In APCs, MHC class II molecules (MHC class II) bind antigenic peptides after HLA-DM mediated removal of CLIP. To characterize intracellular sites of peptide loading in human B lymphoblastoid cell lines, we conducted immunoelectron microscopy studies with Abs recognizing MHC class II associated with CLIP or bound peptide, respectively, together with Abs to HLA-DM and endocytic markers. The distribution of these molecules indicates that peptide binding occurs in compartments with characteristics of normal late endosomes, and in compartments that show characteristics of late endosomes, but are not detectably accessed by endocytosed BSA-gold. The latter compartments may represent or give rise to recycling vesicles that deliver peptide-loaded class II molecules to the cell surface. In addition, we have compared cells in which HLA-DM and HLA-DR interaction is defective with cells in which this interaction is intact, and find that DM/DR interaction is not required for the proper localization of either molecule to peptide-loading compartments. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess, under field conditions, whether a hand-held electrical conductivity (EC) meter could be used to detect subclinical mastitis caused by pathogens most commonly associated with mastitis in dairy cows. ANIMALS: 425 lactating cows on 15 dairies in Costa Rica. PROCEDURE: Immediately prior to milking, milk samples from each quarter were tested, using a hand-held EC meter. A milk sample from the quarter with the highest score was submitted for bacteriologic culture. Results of bacteriologic culture were compared with highest absolute EC score for each cow and with differential EC score (ie, difference between the highest and lowest absolute EC scores for the 4 quarters of each cow). RESULTS: Absolute EC score for cows with subclinical mastitis was significantly higher than that for cows without subclinical mastitis, and absolute EC score was significantly associated with detection of subclinical mastitis. If absolute EC score > or = 7 was considered indicative of subclinical mastitis, sensitivity was 0.43, specificity was 0.83, predictive value of a positive result was 0.39, and predictive value of a negative result was 0.85. Differential EC score for cows with mastitis was significantly higher than that for cows without subclinical mastitis. If differential EC score > or = 2 was considered indicative of subclinical mastitis, sensitivity was 0.53, specificity was 0.77, predictive value of a positive result was 0.37, and predictive value of a negative result was 0.87. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: A hand-held EC meter may be used to screen cows for subclinical mastitis. 相似文献

In order to study the influence of the metal phase in the carbon yield and structural characteristics of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) synthesized by CVD over supported catalysts, different catalysts were prepared using iron, cobalt and nickel as active metal and zeolites Y and mordenite as support. The results showed that the metal precursor produced a great influence on the catalytic activity, fact that could be explained in according to the different solubility of carbon in the metals or in the differences in the diffusion and segregation of carbon through the metal particles. Characterization data of the solid carbon products revealed unique structures and textural properties as well as crystalline conditions on function of metal used. Additionally, support-metal interaction was evaluated, where experiments with similar nickel load over Y and mordenite zeolites were carried out, finding higher carbon yields and more ordered structures when Y zeolite was used. 相似文献
