BACKGROUND: An ecotype of the lima bean, named ‘fagiolo a Formella’, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the only example of an Italian lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.) ecotype, is cultivated in the Campania region of southern Italy. Physical, nutritional and processing traits of dry seeds were evaluated for two consecutive growing seasons (2009 and 2010). The canning quality was also investigated, but only for the harvest of 2010. RESULTS: Sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of total seed proteins allowed the attribution of ‘fagiolo a Formella’ to the Mesoamerican gene pool and Sieva morphotype. Seeds have a trapezoid shape, white coat and 100‐seed weight greater than 42 g. Yield, protein, trypsin inhibitor and phytic acid values were found comparable with those reported for lima bean varieties cultivated in sub‐tropical areas. Moreover, we found that this ecotype is devoid of lectin. CONCLUSIONS: The good adaptation to growing environment is indicated by the fact that ‘fagiolo a Formella’ seed quality is comparable to that of lima beans grown in America. There has been a great deal of work undertaken on the modelling and protection of the structure of buildings to explosive blast, fragment and missile penetration. Buildings and tunnels present interesting challenges because of the different energy release characteristics of modern explosives and gaseous mixtures. The paper describes how by combining modelling capabilities in blast–structure interaction with vulnerability models a capability is formed that has a wide range of potential uses, which links the many stages of response planning to an attack or more general emergency. From designing survivable infrastructures and planning protective measures, through training of staff and responders to handling of actual events, the concept provides a comprehensive approach to the whole spectrum of building and infrastructure survivability assessment issues for a wide range of environments. This study provides data on the prevalence of potentially pathogenic Aeromonas spp. in ready‐to‐eat (RTE) seafood products by evaluating the occurrence of Aeromonas spp. and the presence of virulence‐associated genes. Aeromonas spp. was detected in 57/81 (70.3%) RTE seafood samples. Specifically, Aeromonas spp. was highlighted in 19/21 (90.5%) sushi, in 18/21 (85.7%) sea salad, 11/12 (91.7%) surimi and 9/12 (75%) peeled shrimp samples. Aeromonas spp. was not observed in marinated anchovies and octopus salad samples. Then, PCRs aimed at the hlyA, aerA, alt and ast genes, encoding, respectively, haemolysin A, aerolysin, aeromonas labile temperature cytotonic enterotoxin and aeromonas stable temperature cytotonic enterotoxin, demonstrated a widespread distribution of these genes among Aeromonas isolates. The results underline the need to implement an adequate control plan performing an intensive and continuous monitoring to guarantee the human health.  相似文献

In order to obtain a better understanding of the physical and chemical processes within micromixers or microreactors and to optimize these devices it is necessary to monitor the concentrations within the microchannels. To get chemical information, laser Raman spectroscopy can be used. This method is very selective for individual chemical compounds, allows a spatial resolution of 10 μm within fluids and a quantitative analysis. We examined the hydrolysis of the acetal 2,2-dimethoxypropane to acetone and methanol in the presence of hydrogen ions as catalyst. This reaction can be used to characterize micromixers. The aim of this work is the in situ monitoring of concentrations of acetal and its products, acetone and methanol, during the hydrolysis of acetal within a T-shaped micromixer with a channel width of 0.4 mm and a channel depth of 0.2 mm. In these experiments a continuous-wave argon ion laser was used as an excitation source. The laser radiation was coupled into a microscope and into the micromixer covered with a quartz plate. A special microscope objective was used. It allows the correction of optical aberrations resulting from quartz plates up to a thickness of 2 mm. Concentration profiles of acetal, methanol, and acetone were measured across the width of the microchannel.  相似文献

Generation of high intensity and well collimated multi-energetic proton beams from laser-matter interaction extends the possibility to use protons as a diagnostic tool to image imploding target in Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) experiments. Due to the very large mass densities reached during implosion, protons traveling through the target undergo a very large number of collisions. Therefore the analysis of experimentally obtained proton images requires care and accurate numerical simulations using both hydrodynamic and Monte Carlo codes. The impact of multiple scattering needs to be carefully considered by taking into account the exact stopping power for dense matter and for the underdense plasma corona. In our paper, density, temperature and ionization degree profiles of the imploding target are obtained by 2D hydrodynamic simulations performed using CHIC code. Proton radiography images are simulated using the Monte Carlo code (MCNPX; adapted to correctly describe multiple scattering and plasma stopping power) in order to reconstruct the complete hydrodynamic history of the imploding target. Finally we develop a simple analytical model to study the performance of proton radiography as a function of initial experimental parameters, and identify two different regimes for proton radiography in ICF.  相似文献

Although Δ?-THC has been approved to treat anorexia and weight loss associated with AIDS, it may also reduce well-being by disrupting complex behavioral processes or enhancing HIV replication. To investigate these possibilities, four groups of male rhesus macaques were trained to respond under an operant acquisition and performance procedure, and administered vehicle or Δ?-THC before and after inoculation with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIVmac251, 100 TCID??/ml, i.v.). Prior to chronic Δ?-THC and SIV inoculation, 0.032–0.32 mg/kg of Δ?-THC produced dose-dependent rate-decreasing effects and small, sporadic error-increasing effects in the acquisition and performance components in each subject. Following 28 days of chronic Δ?-THC (0.32 mg/kg, i.m.) or vehicle twice daily, delta-9-THC-treated subjects developed tolerance to the rate-decreasing effects, and this tolerance was maintained during the initial 7–12 months irrespective of SIV infection (i.e., +THC/?SIV, +THC/+SIV). Full necropsy was performed on all SIV subjects an average of 329 days post-SIV inoculation, with postmortem histopathology suggestive of a reduced frequency of CNS pathology as well as opportunistic infections in delta-9-THC-treated subjects. Chronic Δ?-THC also significantly reduced CB-1 and CB-2 receptor levels in the hippocampus, attenuated the expression of a proinflammatory cytokine (MCP-1), and did not increase viral load in plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, or brain tissue compared to vehicle-treated subjects with SIV. Together, these data indicate that chronic Δ?-THC produces tolerance to its behaviorally disruptive effects on complex tasks while not adversely affecting viral load or other markers of disease progression during the early stages of infection. Transparent 9.8 at% Yb:YAG ceramic samples were prepared by reactive sintering of commercial oxides and using 0 or 1 wt% polyethylene glycol (PEG) as dispersant. The optical quality of the samples turns out to be improved by using a dispersant and optical transmittance close to the commercial samples has been obtained. On the other hand the laser characterization evidenced the activation of a non-linear loss mechanism occurring only in the sample containing PEG and despite its better optical quality, at high excitation level. A SEM analysis of material microstructure could not explain this behavior. A state of the art TEM analysis at nanometric scale was performed providing high resolution chemical spectroscopic results that indicate the presence of amorphous and crystalline silicate phases playing different roles in the two samples.  相似文献
