An aqueous‐based gelcasting of fused silica ceramics by using colloidal silica binder was developed. Fused silica slurries having different volume percentage of solid loading from 63 to 74 vol% in colloidal silica were made and the rheological properties were evaluated. It was found that the slurry with 73 vol% of solid loading with viscosity 0.70 Pa.s is suitable for this gelcasting system. The influence of solid loading on physical and mechanical properties of gelcast green and sintered bodies has been studied. The fabricated green body by using colloidal silica binder exhibited a flexural strength of 9 MPa and 88% of theoretical density with 2.2% of drying shrinkage while the sintered sample exhibited flexural strength of 60 MPa and 95% of theoretical density with 4.3% of sintering shrinkage. It was observed that, the nano silica particles from the colloidal silica binder is filling the interstitial positions in the consolidated fused silica green body and enhancing physical and mechanical properties. 相似文献

A series of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) were prepared from a binary blend of ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) and isotactic polypropylene (iPP) using different types of phase modifiers. The influence of sulphonated EPDM, maleated EPDM, styrene‐ethylene‐co‐butylene‐styrene block copolymer, maleated PP, and acrylated PP as phase modifiers showed improved physico‐mechanical properties (like maximum stress, elongation at break, moduli, and tension set). Scanning electron and atomic force microscopy studies revealed better morphologies obtained with these phase modified EPDM‐iPP blends. The dependence of the phase modifier type and concentration was optimized with respect to the improvement in physical properties and morphology of the blends. Physical properties, dynamic mechanical properties, and morphology of these blends were explained with the help of interaction parameter, melt viscosity, and crystallinity of the blends. Theoretical modeling showed that Kerner, Ishai‐Cohen, and Paul models predicted the right morphology–property correlation for the prepared TPEs. POLYM. ENG. The use of tetravalent ceric ions to initiate graft-copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto natural rubber (NR) has been investigated. The rate of grafting has been determined by varying the concentration of monomer and cerium(IV), the temperature and the solvents. The graft yield increases with increasing monomer concentration up to 1.877 M, with further increase of the monomer, the graft yield decreases. The percentage of grafting increases with increasing cerium(IV) concentration up to 0.035 M, thereafter it decreases. With increasing temperature the graft yield increases. The effect of CuSO4 on the rate of grafting has also been investigated. A plausible mechanism has been suggested and the kinetic rate expressions have been derived. 相似文献

In this paper, a cluster-based feature extraction from the coefficients of a discrete wavelet transform and probabilistic neural networks are proposed for machine fault diagnosis. The proposed approach first divides the matrix of wavelet coefficients into clusters, which are centered around the discriminative coefficient positions identified by an unsupervised procedure, based on the entropy value of coefficients from a set of representative signals. The features that contain the informative attributes of the signals are computed from the energy content of the obtained clusters. Then, machine faults are diagnosed based on these feature vectors using a probabilistic neural network. The experimental results from the application on bearing fault diagnosis have shown that the proposed approach is able to effectively extract important intrinsic information content of the test signals and increase the overall fault diagnostic accuracy, as compared to conventional methods. 相似文献

The surgical management of locally recurrent rectal cancer may involve major procedures and is not for the faint-hearted. Nevertheless, such treatment is preferable to chemotherapy and radiotherapy; the latter will fail over a period of months during which the patient is likely to experience intractable pain. Radical surgery offers good palliation and a better quality of life. Survival is prolonged by such operations which may be curative in up to one-third of patients. Photoelasticity is a method which yields information on the principal stress difference and orientation in a composite structure. Various problems associated with this technique, especially those concerning the fundamental relationship between the fringe order and the stress, have yet to be investigated. A few studies of this relationship in a universal stress state have been presented, particularly in the field of rubber-to-metal and rubber-to-fabric composites, but no evaluations have so far been made in the field of rubber-to-rubber joints. Applying the photoelastic method, we report our observations on the stress distribution in a natural rubber to natural rubber joint subjected to uniaxial tension. A comparison between the results of experimental photoelastic studies and the corresponding computer modelling has been illustrated. The theoretical displacement pattern of the angular joints of bi-rubber part has also been highlighted. 相似文献

An attempt was taken to synthesize two types of polyaniline (PANI) with and without solvent followed by drying in air and vacuum oven conditions resulting different morphologies. The PANIs were prepared by chemical oxidative polymerization and studied with respect to their morphological features. Scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X‐ray diffractometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy techniques were used for the characterization studies. The PANI synthesized with a solvent had a mixed morphology (fibrillar and granular), whereas PANI synthesized without a solvent had only a granular morphology. The direct‐current electrical conductivities of the samples were evaluated with an electrometer. We observed that the PANIs with mixed morphology (with solvent) were more electrically conducting than those with a single morphology (without solvent). On drying in vacuo, the conductivity of PANI decreased from 3.3 × 10?2 to 0.3 × 10?2 S/cm with solvent treatment, whereas it decreased from 0.1 × 10?2 to 0.3 × 10?3 S/cm without solvent treatment. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blends of ethylene methyl acrylate (EMA) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) rubber (PDMS) are demonstrated to be miscible. Extended surfaces are used in a variety of heat transfer applications owing to their ability in reducing the convection resistance by exposing a large surface area to the surrounding fluid. Surface modification in the form of perforations is a passive method of increasing the heat transfer rates with the additional benefit of weight reduction. This work deals with numerical investigation of heat transfer and friction from a perforated fin (with and without slot) subjected to forced convection. The perforated fin with slot has been found to have a maximum enhancement in heat transfer with the simultaneous increase in frictional losses versus that of a solid fin. Further, the perforated fin without slot has been able to transfer heat at a relatively higher rate with a considerable reduction in energy loss due to friction in comparison to a solid fin. 相似文献

A novel SiX–dipropargyl glycerol scaffold (X: H, F, or 18F) was developed as a versatile prosthetic group that provides technical advantages for the preparation of dimeric radioligands based on silicon fluoride acceptor pre‐ or post‐labeling with fluorine‐18. Rapid conjugation with the prosthetic group takes place in microwave‐assisted click conjugation under mild conditions. Thus, a bivalent homodimeric SiX–dipropargyl glycerol derivatized radioligand, [18F]BMPPSiF, with enhanced affinity was developed by using click conjugation. High uptake of the radioligand was demonstrated in 5‐HT1A receptor‐rich regions in the brain with positron emission tomography. Molecular docking studies (rigid protein–flexible ligand) of BMPPSiF and known antagonists (WAY‐100635, MPPF, and MefWAY) with monomeric, dimeric, and multimeric 5‐HT1A receptor models were performed, with the highest G score obtained for docked BMPPSiF: ?6.766 as compared with all three antagonists on the monomeric model. Multimeric induced‐fit docking was also performed to visualize the comparable mode of binding under in vivo conditions, and a notably improved G score of ?8.455 was observed for BMPPSiF. These data directly correlate the high binding potential of BMPPSiF with the bivalent binding mode obtained in the biological studies. The present study warrants wide application of the SiX–dipropargyl glycerol prosthetic group in the development of ligands for imaging with enhanced affinity markers for specific targeting based on peptides, nucleosides, and lipids. 相似文献
