If we consider the desirability of reducing fossil fuel consumption, together with the increasing production of combustible solid wastes, there is clearly a need for waste treatment systems which achieve both volume reduction and energy recovery. Direct incineration method is one such system. The aim of this work was to analyze the municipal solid waste incineration situated in the Province of Turin (Piedmont, North Italy), especially its economical effects in consequence of the energy recovery that can be achieved. In order to perform this analysis, two kinds of energy recovery have been studied: electric energy (electrical configuration) only, and both electric and thermal energy (cogenerative configuration). So after a reconstruction of the economic situation, by considering all the costs and revenues, for both the possible energetic configurations the correspondence between the environmental convenience (that was evaluated in a previously work) and the economic convenience has been defined. The main obtained results highlight that currently the environmental convenience corresponds to the cogenerative configuration; instead the economical convenience in the actual condition corresponds to the only electric configuration. Anyway, by working on the thermal energy price, it is possible to obtain at the same time an environmental and economic convenience. 相似文献

The MAGFLOW cellular automata (CA) model was able to fairly accurately reproduce the time of the lava flow advance during the 2006 Etna eruption, leading to very plausible flow predictions. MAGFLOW is intended for use in emergency response situations during an eruption to quickly forecast the lava flow path over some time interval from the immediate future to a long-time forecast. Major discrepancies between the observed and simulated paths occurred in the early phase of the 2006 eruption due to an underestimation of the initial flow rate, and at the time of the overlapping with the 2004–2005 lava flow. Very good representations of the areas likely to be inundated by lava flows were obtained when we adopt a time-varying effusion rate and include the 2004–2005 lava flow field in the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of topography. 相似文献

The ecotoxicological effect of dredged sediments was estimated by embryo-larval toxicity of the oyster Crassosstrea gigas in sediment elutriates (filtered and unfiltered). The study covers the main ports from the French Mediterranean coast. Composted sediments from a navy harbour (A), a commercial port (B) and two composite specimens (C and D) obtained after mixing various sediments were taken into consideration. Effective concentrations affecting 50% of larvae (EC50) were obtained from different elutriate concentrations (from 0 to 100%). Toxicity results obtained from filtered elutriates decreased according to the following gradient: sample A (5.68%), B (20.50%), C (37.60%) and D (47.17%). Chemical concentrations in whole sediments were in agreement with those in elutriates. Among the measured contaminants in elutriates, Cu and Zn resulted as the main contributors to toxicity. Dissolved organic carbon played an important role by exerting a protective effect against the toxicity of dissolved Cu. Toxicity results were interpreted on the basis of toxicity scores to give indication about sediment quality which provided more severe judgement than risk score based on chemical concentrations in sediments. 相似文献

Hops (Humulus lupulus L.) is by far the greatest contributors to the bitter property of beer. Over the past years, a large body of evidence demonstrated the presence of taste receptors in different locations of the oral cavity. In addition to the taste buds of the tongue, cells expressing these receptors have been identified in olfactory bulbs, respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. In the gut, the attention was mainly directed to sweet Taste Receptor (T1R) and bitter Taste Receptor (T2R) receptors. In particular, T2R has shown to modulate secretion of different gut hormones, mainly Glucagon-like Peptide 1 (GLP-1), which are involved in the regulation of glucose homeostasis and the control of gut motility, thereby increasing the sense of satiety. Scientific interest in the activity of bitter taste receptors emerges because of their wide distribution in the human species and the large range of natural substances that interact with them. Beer, whose alcohol content is lower than in other common alcoholic beverages, contains a considerable amount of bitter compounds and current scientific evidence shows a direct effect of beer compounds on glucose homeostasis. The purpose of this paper is to review the available literature data in order to substantiate the novel hypothesis of a possible direct effect of hop-derived bitter compounds on secretion of GLP-1, through the activation of T2R, with consequent improvement of glucose homeostasis. 相似文献

The primary structure of two myoglobins (Mbs), isolated from the heart and muscle of Equus asinus L. and Struthio camelus L., respectively, was determined using a combined approach based on Edman degradation and mass spectrometry. The strategy allowed the determination of donkey Mb sequence, which was found to be identical to the horse Mb, as also confirmed by ESI/Q-TOF mass spectrometry. Indeed, donkey Mb accurate molecular mass (16951.50 Da) was in good agreement with the molecular mass of horse Mb (16951.48 Da). A similar strategy was also applied for revisiting the primary structure of ostrich Mb, revealing the presence of two amino acid substitutions (i.e. Asp53Glu and Asp60Glu), with respect to the previously reported sequence ( Enoki, Ohga, Ishidate, & Morimoto, 2008). The proposed approach represents a rapid and reliable tool for determining/revisiting the primary structures of the highly conserved myoglobins. 相似文献

The aim of our study was to identify and quantify the phenolic acids, flavonoids and vitamin C and to evaluate the antioxidant activity in ninety Italian honeys of different botanical origins (chestnut, sulla, eucalyptus, citrus and multifloral). The results showed that total phenolic and flavonoid contents varied from 11.08 to 14.26 mg GAE per 100 g honey and from 5.82 to 12.52 mg QE per 100 g honey, respectively. HPLC–UV analysis showed a similar but quantitatively different phenolic profile of the studied honeys. Vitamin C is present in all samples. Multifloral honey showed the highest amount of the detected total phenolic compounds and the highest vitamin C content. The DPPH value varied from 55.06 to 75.37%. Among the unifloral honeys, chestnut honey presented the highest levels of phenolic acids, flavonoids and vitamin C, which are closely associated with its high antioxidant activity. The results show that honey contains high amount of biologically active compounds, which play an important role in defining the nutraceutical quality of the product, and that the distribution of these compounds is influenced by the botanical origin. 相似文献

Weatherable semicrystalline polyesters based on 1,4‐cyclohexanedimethanol, 1,4‐cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (CHDA) or dimethyl 1,4‐cyclohexane dicarboxylate (DMCD) can be prepared under normal melt‐phase conditions, using titanium tetrabutoxide as catalyst. The effect of monomer ratio, reaction temperature and catalyst loading on the final polymer properties was studied. Under the proper polymerization conditions, poly(1,4‐cyclohexylenedimethylene‐1,4‐cyclohexanedicarboxylate) polymers with high molecular weight can be obtained. During polymerization, isomerization can occur towards the thermodynamically stable cis‐trans ratio of 34–66 mol%. Carboxylic acid end groups can catalyze the isomerization and therefore the polymerization is more critical starting from CHDA rather than DMCD. Moreover, temperature control becomes a key factor to avoid or to limit isomerization. The study of the isomerization of the different monomers permitted a better understanding of the isomerization and therefore of the polymerization process. The Bridging Sheet domain of HIV-1 gp120 is highly conserved among the HIV-1 strains and allows HIV-1 binding to host cells via the HIV-1 coreceptors. Further, the bridging sheet domain is a major target to neutralize HIV-1 infection. We rationally designed four linear peptide epitopes that mimic the three-dimensional structure of bridging sheet by using molecular modeling. Chemically synthesized peptides BS3 and BS4 showed a fair degree of antigenicity when tested in ELISA with IgG purified from HIV(+) broadly neutralizing sera while the production of synthetic peptides BS1 and BS2 failed due to their high degree of hydrophobicity. To overcome this limitation, we linked all four BS peptides to the COOH-terminus of GST protein to test both their antigenicity and immunogenicity. Only the BS1 peptide showed good antigenicity; however, no envelope specific antibodies were elicited upon mice immunization. Therefore we performed further analyses by linking BS1 peptide to the NH2-terminus of the E2 scaffold from the Geobacillus Stearothermophylus PDH complex. The E2-BS1 fusion peptide showed good antigenic results, however only one immunized rabbit elicited good antibody titers towards both the monomeric and oligomeric viral envelope glycoprotein (Env). In addition, moderate neutralizing antibodies response was elicited against two HIV-1 clade B and one clade C primary isolates. These preliminary data validate the peptide mimotope approach as a promising tool to obtain an effective HIV-1 vaccine. 相似文献
