The authors constructed and tested a model superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using a high-temperature superconducting film according to a design that includes a vacuum interrupter with an electromagnetic repulsion mechanism. The superconductor and the vacuum interrupter are connected in parallel with a bypass coil. If a fault occurs and current flows through the system, the superconductor is quenched and the current is transferred to the parallel coil because of the voltage drop in the superconductor. This large current in the parallel coil actuates the magnetic repulsion mechanism of the vacuum interrupter. On opening the vacuum interrupter, the current in the superconductor is interrupted. This model is expected to exhibit very low-energy consumption by the superconductor. The authors succeeded in interrupting the current flowing in the superconductor within a half-cycle using a prototype SFCL. An improved SFCL with higher voltage and current ranges was used to carry out current-limiting tests and to investigate the possibility of adapting our SFCL in a power system. The authors also carried out a currentlimiting test using a conventional high-speed vacuum circuit breaker (HSVCB) as a new method for realising our concept. 相似文献

Low-temperature X-ray diffraction measurements on a correlated-electron superconductor Mo3Sb7 revealed that the high-temperature cubic state with the Ir3Ge7 type structure (space group ) transforms to tetragonal below TS=53 K, at which spin-gap formation was recently suggested. The effect of electron correlations to the structural instability is briefly discussed in connection with the condensation of the high-temperature local moments to the spin-singlet-like state. 相似文献

Phase relationships of manganese-substituted ruthenium sesquisilicide alloys have been investigated by using X-ray powder diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. A series of chimney–ladder phases Ru1?xMnxSiy (0.14 ? x ? 0.97, 1.584 ? y ? 1.741) are formed over a wide compositional range between Ru2Si3 and Mn4Si7. The compositions of these chimney–ladder compounds deviate slightly from the composition line connecting Ru2Si3 and Mn4Si7, which corresponds to the ideal composition line satisfying VEC (valence electron counting) = 14 rule. The occurrence of this compositional deviation is discussed in terms of the VEC rule and the atomic packing. The thermoelectric properties of the directionally solidified Ru1?xMnxSiy alloys (0.55 ? x ? 0.90) have also been investigated as a function of the Mn content and temperature. The dimensionless figure of merit (ZT) for those alloys with a high Mn content (x ? 0.75) increased with the increase in Mn content. The ZT value for a crystal with x = 0.90 was as high as 0.76 at 874 K. 相似文献

Synchrotron X-ray microtomography was used to observe the shrinkage and annihilation behaviors of hydrogen micropores in three dimensions during hot and cold plastic deformation of an Al–Mg alloy. Whether complete healing of micropores is achieved after plastic deformation was examined by exposing the material to a high temperature after plastic deformation. Although micropores generally show a pattern of shrinking and closing, closer inspection of a single specimen revealed a variety of geometrically variable behaviors. It is noteworthy that some of the micropores are reinitiated in positions identical to those before their annihilation, even after an 8–22% macroscopic strain has been further applied after annihilation. We attribute local variations such as these to significant local strain variation, which we measured in a series of tomographic volumes by tracking the microstructural features. 相似文献

This article presents the dynamic modelling of a single effect two-bed adsorption chiller utilizing the composite adsorbent “CaCl2 confined to KSK silica gel” as adsorbent and water as adsorbate, which is based on the experimentally confirmed adsorption isotherms and kinetics data. Compared with the experimental data of conventional adsorption chiller based on RD silica gel + water pair, we found that the new working pair provides better cooling capacity and performances. From numerical simulation, it is also found that the cooling capacity can be increased up to 20% of the parent silica gel + water adsorption chiller and the coefficient of performance (COP) can be improved up to 25% at optimum conditions. We also demonstrate here that the best peak chilled water temperature suppression, and the maximum cooling capacity can be achieved by the optimum analysis for both cycles. 相似文献

A practical and adequate approach to modeling light propagation in an adult head with a low-scattering cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) region by use of diffusion theory was investigated. The diffusion approximation does not hold in a nonscattering or low-scattering regions. The hybrid radiosity-diffusion method was adopted to model the light propagation in the head with a nonscattering region. In the hybrid method the geometry of the nonscattering region is acquired as a priori information. In reality, low-level scattering occurs in the CSF region and may reduce the error caused by the diffusion approximation. The partial optical path length and the spatial sensitivity profile calculated by the finite-element method agree well with those calculated by the Monte Carlo method in the case in which the transport scattering coefficient of the CSF layer is greater than 0.3 mm(-1). Because it is feasible to assume that the transport scattering coefficient of a CSF layer is 0.3 mm(-1), it is practical to adopt diffusion theory to the modeling of light propagation in an adult head as an alternative to the hybrid method. 相似文献

A total of 40 strains of Orientia tsutsugamushi (34 isolates from patients and trombiculid mites in Japan, and 6 prototype strains of antigenic variants) were examined for classification based on the reactivities with type-specific monoclonal antibodies in indirect immunofluorescence tests, and on the restriction fragment length polymorphism of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-amplified 56-kilodalton type-specific antigenic protein gene. By these methods, several antigenic and genotypic variants were found among the strains, and these variants were classified into types and further into subtypes. These results suggest that there are many variants in O. tsutsugamushi, and the methods used here seem to be useful for the systematic classification of the numerous variants. A strain which may be a new type distinguishable from those identified previously was also found in this study. Furthermore, variety in the degree of pathogenicity in mice related to type and/or subtype classification were observed. 相似文献

A polarisation control method for surface emitting lasers is proposed. By preparing high refractive index films on one side of dielectric multilayer reflector walls, a differential loss for orthogonal polarisations can be provided.
