In previous work, we designed space fiducials with the aim of making camera pose determination as noise‐insensitive as possible. These fiducials turned out to be sets of points that formed concentric regular polyhedra. Here, we apply an idea of Dementhon and Davis and test and analyze an iterative linear algorithm in conjunction with our optimal fiducials to increase the accuracy of the computed camera pose. We also analyze under what circumstances this iterative algorithm is guaranteed to converge to the correct solution. Comprehensive computer simulations illustrate the behavior of the algorithm and the degree of improvement in pose determination in case of convergence. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper reports the results of shear resistance tests conducted on geofoam blocks with no connection, blocks connected with barbed connector plates, and blocks connected with polyurethane adhesive. In the first phase, tests were completed in a large direct shear box (430 mm L × 280 mm W) under normal pressures of 14.8 kPa, 29.6 kPa, and 74.1 kPa. In phase II, tests were conducted on 1200 mm L × 600 mm W specimens using a computer controlled actuator under normal pressures of 9.3 kPa, 18.1 kPa and 26.9 kPa. The measured values of the coefficient of friction between blocks were found to be consistent with the values reported in the literature and conservative in terms of commonly used design values. The test results show that the presence of barbed connector plates did not provide additional interface shear resistance; however polyurethane adhesive was successful in bonding the blocks together thus virtually eliminating horizontal sliding between the blocks. Blocks connected with barbed connector plates subject to repeated loading showed signs of decreased shear resistance during reloading, but did reach the peak shear resistance measured during initial loading.  相似文献

We have developed a high-throughput assay for screening chemical libraries for compounds that affect cell sheet migration during wound closure in epithelial cell monolayers. By using this assay, we have discovered a new inhibitor of cell sheet migration. This compound (UIC-1005) is a 3,4-disubstituted oxazolidinone that bears an electrophilic alpha,beta-unsaturated N-acyl group required for activity. UIC-1005 also inhibits growth in an epithelial cell proliferation assay. The molecule does not display general toxicity at concentrations at which it potently inhibits cell sheet migration and growth. Unlike certain 3,5-disubstituted oxazolidinones, it exhibits no antibacterial activity. UIC-1005 therefore represents a new class of bioactive oxazolidinone derivative that may prove useful as a probe for signaling pathways leading to cell motility.  相似文献

Pressure-driven transport of fluid and solute samples is often desirable in microfluidic devices, particularly where sufficient electroosmotic flow rates cannot be realized or the use of an electric field is restricted. Unfortunately, this mode of actuation also leads to hydrodynamic dispersion due to the inherent fluid shear in the system. While such dispersivity is known to scale with the square of the Peclet number based on the narrower dimension of the conduit (often the channel depth), the proportionality constant can vary significantly depending on its actual cross section. In this article, we review previous studies to understand the effect of commonly microfabricated channel cross sections on the Taylor–Aris dispersion of solute slugs in simple pressure-driven flow systems. We also analyze some recently proposed optimum designs which can reduce the contribution to this band broadening arising from the presence of the channel sidewalls. Finally, new simulation results have been presented in the last section of this paper which describe solutal spreading due to bowing of microchannels that can occur from stresses developed during their fabrication or operation under high-pressure conditions.  相似文献

Research efforts were given towards development of low carbon high strength steels since recent past. The present study deals with the development of a low carbon high strength steel alloyed with Mn, Ni, Mo, Cu and microalloyed with Ti and Nb. The steel was subjected to three stage controlled rolling operation followed by accelerated cooling. The structure and properties of the steel at various processing conditions were evaluated. Microstructural observation reveals predominantly lath martensite along with twinned martensite structure at all processing conditions. High strength values at higher finish rolling temperatures have been obtained due to fine martensitic structure along with tiny precipitates of microalloying carbide and carbonitride. The strength value increases marginally at lower finishing temperature due to comparatively finer lath size of martensite and increased precipitation density of carbides, carbonitrides along with Cu particles. The variation in impact toughness properties at different finish rolling temperatures is found to be negligible at ambient and subambient temperatures. The formation of stable and large TiN/TiCN particles during casting have impaired the impact toughness values at ambient and at ‐40°C temperatures.  相似文献

Multimodal biometric systems consolidate the evidence presented by multiple biometric sources and typically provide better recognition performance compared to systems based on a single biometric modality. Although information fusion in a multimodal system can be performed at various levels, integration at the matching score level is the most common approach due to the ease in accessing and combining the scores generated by different matchers. Since the matching scores output by the various modalities are heterogeneous, score normalization is needed to transform these scores into a common domain, prior to combining them. In this paper, we have studied the performance of different normalization techniques and fusion rules in the context of a multimodal biometric system based on the face, fingerprint and hand-geometry traits of a user. Experiments conducted on a database of 100 users indicate that the application of min–max, z-score, and tanh normalization schemes followed by a simple sum of scores fusion method results in better recognition performance compared to other methods. However, experiments also reveal that the min–max and z-score normalization techniques are sensitive to outliers in the data, highlighting the need for a robust and efficient normalization procedure like the tanh normalization. It was also observed that multimodal systems utilizing user-specific weights perform better compared to systems that assign the same set of weights to the multiple biometric traits of all users.  相似文献

Latency insensitive protocols (LIPs) have been proposed as a viable means to connect synchronous IP blocks via long interconnects in a system-on-chip. The reason why one needs to implement LIPs on long interconnects stems from the fact that with increasing clock frequencies, the signal delay on some interconnects exceeds the clock period. Correctness of a system composed of synchronous blocks communicating via LIPs is established by showing latency equivalence between a completely synchronous composition of the blocks, and the LIP based composition. A design flow based on a synchronous composition specification, and stepwise refinement to LIP composition can be easily conceived, and a proof obligation to show latency equivalence between the synchronous specification and the refinement needs to be discharged. In this work, we propose a functional programming based framework for modeling and simulating LIP, and implement the semantics of various refinement steps in the programming model, so we can validate the LIP model against the original system within this functional programming framework. Such validation becomes easier due to the inherent denotational model of functional languages. We specifically use Standard ML to model the original system implementation as well as its latency insensitive version and compare the two by creating a model that contains both, giving them the same inputs and checking their outputs to be latency equivalent.  相似文献

Electronic commerce has enabled the use of intelligent agent technologies that can evaluate buyers, customize products, and price in real-time. Our model of an electronic market with customizable products analyzes the pricing, profitability and welfare implications of agent-based technologies that price dynamically based on product preference information revealed by consumers. We find that in making the trade-off between better prices and better customization, consumers invariably choose less-than-ideal products. Furthermore, this trade-off has a higher impact on buyers on the higher end of the market and causes a transfer of consumer surplus towards buyers with a lower willingness to pay. As buyers adjust their product choices in response to better demand agent technologies, seller revenues decrease since the gains from better buyer information are dominated by the lowering of the total value created from the transactions. We study the strategic and welfare implications of these findings, and discuss managerial and technology development guidelines.  相似文献
