By composing (Eudragit S) with fatty acids (stearic acid (SA), palmitic acid (PA), and myristic acid (MA)), form‐stable phase change materials (PCMs), which can retain the same shape in a solid state even when the temperature of the PCMs is over the melting points of the fatty acids, are prepared. The compatibility of fatty acids with the Eudragit S is proved by microscopic investigation and infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The melting and crystallization temperatures and the latent heats of melting and crystallization of the form‐stable PCMs are measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) method. The maximum mass percentage of all fatty acids in the form‐stable PCMs is found as 70%, and no leakage of fatty acid is observed at the temperature range of 50–70°C for several heating cycles. Thermal properties obtained from the DSC analysis indicate that the Eudragit S/fatty acid blends as form‐stable PCM have great potential for passive solar latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) applications in terms of their satisfactory thermal properties and utility advantage. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two-phase transport of reactants and products constitutes an important limit in performance of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFC). Particularly, at high current densities and/or low gas flow rates, product water condenses in open pores of the cathode gas diffusion layer (GDL) and limits the effective oxygen transport to the active catalyst sites. Furthermore, liquid water covers some of the active catalytic surface, rendering them inactive for electrochemical reaction. Traditionally, these two-phase transport processes in the GDL are modeled using so-called unsaturated flow theory (UFT), in which a uniform gas-phase pressure is assumed across the entire porous layer, thereby ignoring the gas-phase flow counter to capillarity-induced liquid motion. In this work, using multi-phase mixture (M2) formalism, the constant gas pressure assumption is relaxed and the effects of counter gas-flow are studied and found to be a new oxygen transport mechanism. Further, we analyze the multi-layer diffusion media, composed of two or more layers of porous materials having different pore sizes and/or wetting characteristics. Particularly, the effects of porosity, thickness and wettability of a micro-porous layer (MPL) on the two-phase transport in PEFC are elucidated.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that through self-interaction and self-observation, an anthropomorphic robot equipped with a range camera can learn object affordances and use this knowledge for planning. In the first step of learning, the robot discovers commonalities in its action-effect experiences by discovering effect categories. Once the effect categories are discovered, in the second step, affordance predictors for each behavior are obtained by learning the mapping from the object features to the effect categories. After learning, the robot can make plans to achieve desired goals, emulate end states of demonstrated actions, monitor the plan execution and take corrective actions using the perceptual structures employed or discovered during learning. We argue that the learning system proposed shares crucial elements with the development of infants of 7–10 months age, who explore the environment and learn the dynamics of the objects through goal-free exploration. In addition, we discuss goal emulation and planning in relation to older infants with no symbolic inference capability and non-linguistic animals which utilize object affordances to make action plans.  相似文献

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant brain tumor. Despite multimodality treatment with surgical resection, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and tumor treating fields, recurrence is universal, median observed survival is low at 8 months and 5-year overall survival is poor at 7%. Immunotherapy aims to generate a tumor-specific immune response to selectively eliminate tumor cells. In treatment of GBM, immunotherapy approaches including use of checkpoint inhibitors, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-Cell therapy, vaccine-based approaches, viral vector therapies, and cytokine-based treatment has been studied. While there have been no major breakthroughs to date and broad implementation of immunotherapy for GBM remains elusive, multiple studies are underway. In this review, we discuss immunotherapy approaches to GBM with an emphasis on molecularly informed approaches.  相似文献

This study investigates the appropriateness of four major empirical methods [Lane and Kalinske, Einstein, Brooks, Chang—Simons—Richardson] for predicting suspended sediment loads (SSLs) in three major rivers in the Aegean Region, Turkey. The measured data from 1975 to 2005 were used to test performance of the models. It was found that Brooks method was more appropriate, among the others, for predicting suspended sediment loads from each river. The prediction results of Brooks method were further improved by the use of genetic algorithm (GA_Brooks) optimizing a fitting parameter and showing a comparable performance to those of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and neuro-fuzzy (ANFIS) models for the same rivers. GA_Brooks, ANNs, and ANFIS models can be used for predicting loads at a regional scale. The sensitivity analysis results revealed that suspended and bed material particle diameters affect suspended sediment loads significantly.  相似文献

In the present study, we investigate the influence of boron oxide addition on magnetic and structural properties of some ferric compounds (BaFe12O19 and BiFeO3). Our studies have shown that small amounts of B2O3 addition improve the crystalline structure, and thus improve the magnetic properties effectively. For instance, remanence and saturation magnetization of hard magnetic BaFe12O19 increases by half. Similar behavior was also observed in the BiFeO3 system. There are two possible explanations for these improvements: (1) Boron atoms reside between the grains and improve the links between grains or (2) Boron substitutes for iron atoms and changes magnetic anisotropy and thus magnetic parameters.  相似文献

Aggregate is the most fundamental and widely used component of construction. It is used as an unbound material which constitutes about 100% of the volume of base courses, 95 to 93% of the volume of asphalt and about 85 to 75% of the volume of Portland cement concrete. Aggregate is exposed to a number of physical and chemically degrading forces during processing, transporting, and construction. As the main load carrying component of unbound and bituminous and Portland cement concretes, the aggregate must be clean, hard, sound, durable, resistant to abrasion, uniform in quality and free of any detrimental quantities of soft, friable, thin, elongated or laminated pieces, disintegrated material, alkali or other deleterious substance. For assesing the abrasion resistance of aggregates, the most common method is the Los Angeles abrasion and impact test (LAAI) which determines the relative competence or resistance to abrasion of the aggregates.In this study, four limestones, four travertines, three crystalline marbles and one andesite were tested to evaluate the correlations between the LAAI values and the physical properties covering bulk density, Schmidt hardness, shore hardness, P-wave velocity and mechanical properties such as uniaxial compressive strength, point load index, and indirect tensile strength of rocks. Since these properties are of great importance as a source of aggregates, tests on the rock can give an indication of the strength of the aggregates.The above rock properties were determined through standard testing methods in order to investigate the correlation between LAAI and each rock property by using regression analysis. A simple equation predicting the LAAI value based on each rock property was suggested. From the statistical tests, rock properties were found to be significant in estimating the LAAI values of rocks.  相似文献
