Growth regulatory effects of transforming growth factor-beta 1 and interleukin-2 on IL-2 dependent CD4+T lymphoblastoid cell line

Transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) is an immuno-modulatory cytokine which has been shown to modulate the activity of T and B cells. We show here that human TGF-beta 1 inhibited stationary cultures of IL-2 dependent CD4+ bovine lymphoblastoid T cells (BLTC) by down-regulating their IL-2 receptor (IL-2R) expression, arresting cells in the G0/G1 compartment of the cell cycle, and inducing these cells to undergo apoptosis. These events were reversed by the addition of a minimal concentration of IL-2 (2U/ml). In the presence of exogenous IL-2, TGF-beta 1 was found to augment the proliferative response of BLTC through up-regulation of IL-2R expression, allow progression of normal cell cycle, and significantly prevent apoptosis. Our data clearly show that IL-2 and TGF-beta 1, when present alone, have contrasting effects on BLTC. TGF-beta 1 down regulates events that are associated with IL-2 mediated signal. But when present together, IL-2 and TGF-beta 1 upregulate activation signals and proliferation of rapidly dividing CD4+T cells.     

A Deep Learning Model to Analyse Social-Cyber Psychological Problems in Youth

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media have emerged as excellent platforms for interacting with friends and expressing thoughts, posts, comments, images, and videos that express moods, sentiments, and feelings. With this, it has become possible to examine user thoughts and feelings in social network data to better understand their perspectives and attitudes. However, the analysis of depression based on social media has gained widespread acceptance worldwide, other verticals still have yet to be discovered. The depression analysis uses Twitter data from a publicly available web source in this work. To assess the accuracy of depression detection, long-short-term memory (LSTM) and convolution neural network (CNN) techniques were used. This method is both efficient and scalable. The simulation results have shown an accuracy of 86.23%, which is reasonable compared to existing methods.     

Effects of heat treatment on sound absorption coefficients in nanosilver‐impregnated and normal solid woods

Effects of impregnation with silver nano‐suspension as well as heat‐treatment on sound absorption coefficients (AC) were studied in tangential direction of five different solid woods based on their importance. AC was measured at two frequencies of 250 and 500 Hz. A 400 ppm nanosuspension was used for the impregnation; silver nanoparticles had a size range of 30–80 nm. Based on the obtained results, the species reacted significantly different in absorbing sound at the two frequencies. Impregnation with nano‐suspension substantially decreased AC at the lower frequency of 250 Hz; it did not show any particular trend when AC was measured at the frequency of 500 Hz. Heat treatment significantly increased AC at the frequency of 250 Hz. ACs of mulberry tended to be similar at the two frequencies; in the other four species though, ACs were significantly different. Levitation Force Between a Small Magnet and Superconducting Sphere

Based on the Meissner effect and the image method, we studied the interaction between a magnetic point dipole and a superconducting sphere. We obtained analytical expressions for the interaction energy and the levitation force when the dipole is in an arbitrary orientation. Our calculations show the validity of using the image method for a antisymmetrical superconducting sphere-magnet system. Results show that the energy and the force are maxima when the magnetic dipole is perpendicular to the surface of superconductor and minima when it is tangent to the surface. Furthermore, the force acting on the tip of a magnetic force microscope above a superconducting sphere was derived as a generalization of the levitation force acts on a point dipole.      

Lysis of oocytes by bovine sperm and seminal plasma

This study examined the lytic activity of bovine seminal plasma on zona-free oocytes commonly used to assess bovine capacitation. Exposure of hamster oocytes (intact or zona-free) to undiluted seminal plasma resulted in lysis within 5 min. With intact oocytes, 1:5 to 1:20 seminal plasma resulted in swelling of the oocytes. With zona-free oocytes, seminal plasma (1:0 to 1:1000) resulted in lysis within 1 min to 3 h depending on dilution. Heating seminal plasma to inactivate complement did not reduce lytic activity, but boiling destroyed it. Lytic activity was present in seminal plasma from vasectomized bulls and in seminal vesicle fluid. After elution of seminal plasma through Sephadex G-200, lytic activity was only associated with the fraction containing proteins of 200,000 to 45,000 dal. Lytic activity remained with washed capacitated bull sperm only when 10(7) sperm/ml or more were coincubated with zona-free oocytes at 37 degrees C for 3 h. In conclusion, both bovine seminal plasma and capacitated sperm were lytic in the zona-free hamster oocyte assay. The results may explain why so few sperm are normally found at the site of fertilization.     

A local approach for 3D object recognition through a set of size functions

In this paper, a local approach for 3D object recognition is presented. It is based on the topological invariants provided by the critical points of the 3D object. The critical points and the links between them are represented by a set of size functions obtained after splitting the 3D object into portions. A suitable similarity measure is used to compare the sets of size functions associated with the 3D objects. In order to validate our approach's recognition performance, we used different collections of 3D objects. The obtained scores are favourably comparable to the related work.
