We describe a simple method for decorating graphene (1–5 layers) with Au and Ag nanostructures (nanoparticles, nanorods, and nanoplates). We deposit graphene electrostatically from highly-oriented pyrolytic graphite onto Si/SiO2 surfaces functionalized with (aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane and grow the metal nanostructures by a seed-mediated growth method from hexanethiolate-coated Au monolayer-protected cluster “seeds” that are attached to graphene by hydrophobic interactions. Scanning electron microscopy reveals the selective growth of Au or Ag nanostructures on the graphene surface. In the case of Au, the low pH 2.8 growth solution causes etching of the graphene and formation of scroll-like structures. For Ag, the high pH 9.3 solution does not seem to affect the graphene. Raman spectroscopy is consistent with the graphene morphology and reveals that the presence of Au and Ag nanostructures increases the Raman scattering from the graphene by a factor of about 45 and 150, respectively. This work demonstrates a simple method for decorating graphene with noble metal nanostructures that may have interesting optical, electronic, and chemical properties for applications in nanoelectronics, sensing, and catalysis.  相似文献

The conjugation of organometallic groups to current β-lactam antibiotics is a field of increasing study due to the ability of certain organometallic groups to enhance the antibiotic potency of these drugs. Herein, we report the antibacterial properties of two metallocenyl (ferrocenyl and ruthenocenyl) 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) antibiotic conjugates. Continuing a trend we found in our previous studies, the ruthenocenyl conjugate showed greater antibacterial activity than its ferrocenyl counterpart. Compared with the previously published 7-aminodesacetoxycephalosporanic acid (7-ADCA) conjugates, the 3-acetyloxymethyl group significantly improved the compounds’ activity. Furthermore, the Rc-7-ACA compound was more active against clinical Staphylococcus aureus isolates than the ampicillin reference. Noticeably, neither of the two new compounds showed an undesirable toxic effect in HeLa and L929 cells at the concentrations at which they displayed strong antibacterial effects. The antibacterial activity of the two metallocenyl 7-ACA derivatives was further confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM micrographs showed that bacteria treated with metallocenyl 7-ACA derivatives feature cell wall damage and morphology changes. Using a CTX-M-14 β-lactamase competition assay based on nitrocefin hydrolysis, we showed that the Rc-7-ACA bound more favorably to CTX-M-14 than its ferrocenyl counterpart, again confirming the superiority of the ruthenocenyl moiety over the ferrocenyl one in interacting with proteins. We also report a 1.47 Å resolution crystal structure of Rc-7-ACA in complex with the CTX-M-14 E166A mutant, an enzyme sharing a similar active site configuration with penicillin-binding proteins, the molecular target of β-lactam antibiotics. These results strengthen the case for the antibacterial utility of the Rc and Fc groups.  相似文献

A hybrid sorbent material for removal of hydrogen sulfide from air was developed. The material is based on activated carbon and iron compounds obtained from waste iron(II) sulfate(VI) heptahydrate. The iron salt is deposited on the carbonaceous support and subjected to oxidation (Fe2+ to Fe3+) using atmospheric oxygen under alkaline conditions. An effect of H2O2 addition to the process on the composition of the resultant material was also examined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses confirmed easy conversion of waste FeSO4·7H2O to iron oxides Fe3O4 and FeOOH. The activated carbon supporting iron oxides revealed a higher efficiency in H2S elimination from air compared to the commercial activated carbon, without any modification.  相似文献

A hybrid fluidized-bed bioreactor for water purification was proposed and analyzed. It is a novel type of bioreactor characterized by hitherto unknown stationary and dynamic features. Steady-state characteristics of this hybrid bioreactor with external liquid circulation are presented. A quantitative analysis of steady-state properties of the bioreactor was performed with the aid of an original mathematical model developed for a double-substrate aerobic microbiological process. A steady-state analysis of aerobic processes characterized by different oxygen demand was performed. The effect of essential parameters was evaluated, including carbonaceous substrate concentration in the feed stream to the apparatus, aeration intensity, total residence time of a liquid in the bioreactor, and height of the bed of fine carrier particles.  相似文献

Limonene‐derived polycarbonate‐based alkyd resins (ARs) have been prepared by copolymerization of limonene dioxide with CO2, catalysed by a β‐diiminate zinc–bis(trimethylsilyl)amido complex, and subsequent chemical modification with soybean oil fatty acids using triphenylethylphosphonium bromide as the catalyst. This quantitative partial modification was realized via epoxy–carboxylic acid chemistry, affording ARs with higher oil lengths, lower polydispersities and higher glass transition temperatures (Tg) in comparison to a conventional polyester AR based on phthalic acid, multifunctional polyol pentaerythritol and soybean fatty acid. The novel limonene polycarbonate AR and the conventional polyester AR were evaluated as coatings and both the physical drying (without the presence of the oxidative drying accelerator Borchi® Oxy Coat) and chemical curing (with Borchi® Oxy Coat) processes of these coatings were monitored by measuring the König hardness and complex modulus development with time. A better performance was obtained for the alkyd paint containing polycarbonates modified with fatty acids (FA‐PCs), which showed a faster chemical drying, a higher König hardness and a higher Tg in coating evaluation, demonstrating that the fully renewable FA‐PCs are promising resins for alkyd paint applications. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Micro-Raman light scattering experiments on PbZrO3 (PZO) single crystal doped with Nb5+ have been investigated. Special attention was paid to the paraelectric (PE) phase in which nominally forbidden first-order Raman spectra were detected at temperatures far above the phase transition TC. Complex Raman spectra were observed in the vicinity of three structural phase transitions. These results mainly from the coexistence of phases with different symmetries in a wide temperature range below TC. The Raman measurements have been compared with dielectric and optical observations and proved that polar nanoregions in a centrosymmetric lattice appear well above TC. It was shown that doping ABO3 perovskites with heterovalent ions like Nb5+ unbalances charge neutrality of the lattice and strongly extends the temperature range of polar regions. The investigations performed point out that in the PE matrix the interaction between electrons and lattice vibrations, as recently suggested for pure PZO, plays an important role.  相似文献

The generation of dispersions with defined droplet size distributions is important for liquid-liquid extraction. In this respect, the capability of a centrifugal pump to generate dispersions was investigated for different operating points. For the analysis of the mixing process, a centrifugal pump was designed translucent. High-speed images reveal the mechanism of particle breakup. Optical measurement technology and image processing with neural networks were used to determine droplet size distributions. The influence of flow rate, rotational frequency and holdup are discussed for a paraffin oil-water system.  相似文献

The digitization of extraction columns requires a profound knowledge of the present hydrodynamics/mass transport interaction as well as appropriate measurement techniques for the detection of relevant input and target values. In this article, the different techniques for droplet size distribution as well as concentration determination are presented and new methods for online evaluation are discussed. In combination with the simulation of droplet size, holdup and solute concentration distribution, an online-capable process tool for controlling and optimizing extraction columns will be obtained.  相似文献

The influence on the mass transfer in liquid-liquid extraction was investigated during droplet formation in a quiescent aqueous continuous phase for the two transition components, acetone and acetonitrile, in toluene. Both transition components have similar characteristics. However, an approximately eight times slower mass transfer of a droplet hanging on a capillary in relation to a rising droplet could be observed. The droplet formation time and the initial solute concentration are decisive for the mass transfer behaviour. A lower volumetric flow leads to slower droplet formation and a higher specific mass transfer area enhancing mass transfer, which is visualized via laser induced fluorescence (LIF). Additionally, as expected, higher initial solute concentrations promote Marangoni turbulences and thus mass transfer, which is measured via confocal Raman spectroscopy inside a fixed hanging droplet.  相似文献
