Theoretical background for the simulation of marine system dynamics

Approaches helping to overcome the difficulties in marine system simulation problems are discussed which rest upon the aggregation of components, presentation of the model in the form of a stochastic graph and design of logical information models. The simulation techniques are exemplified with their applications to forecast problems for marine shelf ecological system behaviour.

Adiabatic demagnetization of Er3+ or Nd3+ substituted YAG

The paramagnetic salts, eg alums, usually employed in adiabatic demagnetization experiments are inconvenient because of their tendency to dehydration, etc. The refractive oxides with magnetic impurities seem to be more favourable. The authors describe the results obtained with Er³⁺ and Nd³⁺ substituted yttrium aluminium garnets (YAG). Final temperatures reached after adiabatic demagnetization are comparable to those obtained with cerium magnesium nitrate. The paper illustrates the possible use of Er³⁺ and Nd³⁺ substitued in YAG for creating a very simple device for obtaining low temperatures in the mK region by adiabatic demagnetization.
