Synthesis and film properties of epoxy esters modified with amino resins from glycolysis products of postconsumer PET bottles

Glycolysis of waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) flakes obtained from grinding postconsumer bottles was carried out at 225–250°C and molar ratios of PET/ethylene glycol were taken as 1/1, 1/1.5, 1/5, and 1/10. Reaction product was extracted by hot water for three times and water‐soluble crystallizable fraction and water‐insoluble fraction were obtained. These fractions were characterized by acid and hydroxyl value determinations, differential scanning calorimeter analysis, and 1H‐NMR analysis. Glycolysis product was used for synthesis of PET‐based epoxy resin. This epoxy resin was used to prepare epoxy ester resins having 40% and 50% oil content. Epoxy ester resin having 40% oil content was modified with urea‐formaldehyde and melamine‐formaldehyde resins for synthesis of epoxy ester–amino resin. Physical and chemical film properties of epoxy ester and modified epoxy ester resins were investigated. All the epoxy ester and modified epoxy ester films were having excellent adhesion, water, and salt water resistance properties. Modification of PET‐based epoxy ester resins with amino resin has significantly improved hardness, impact resistance, and alkaline and acid resistance of resin films. As a result, PET oligomers obtained from glycolysis of postconsumer PET bottles are suitable for manufacturing of amino‐resin‐modified epoxy ester resins that have improved physical and chemical surface coating properties. As a continuation of efforts to explore the potential of certain types of polymer nanocomposites to be successful candidates as dental restoration/adhesion materials, a Zr‐containing and organically modified silicate‐based material system with epoxy functionality was prepared by use of a sol–gel synthesis method, and UV light‐ and visible light (VL)‐curing processes. Comparative influences of the synthesis and processing parameters on the mechanical, thermal, and microstructural/nanostructural properties of the system were detailed. Zr‐containing species proved to more effectively catalyze the epoxy polymerization/crosslinking reactions than those containing Ti. Incorporation of Zr into the nanocomposite network led to significantly advanced mechanical properties. An elastic (Young's) modulus value of 23 MPa was achieved. The system with relatively high Zr content was successfully obtained, which also had higher thermal stability. Overall observations and results suggested that Zr content, and the UV light‐ or VL‐curing process could be capitalized on to modify the structure, and to improve the final properties of these material systems, which indicated a prospective opportunity for this material system to be utilized in dental restoration/adhesion applications. Connectivity-Guided Adaptive Wavelet Transform based mesh compression framework is proposed. The transformation uses the connectivity information of the 3D model to exploit the inter-pixel correlations. Orthographic projection is used for converting the 3D mesh into a 2D image-like representation. The proposed conversion method does not change the connectivity among the vertices of the 3D model. There is a correlation between the pixels of the composed image due to the connectivity of the 3D mesh. The proposed wavelet transform uses an adaptive predictor that exploits the connectivity information of the 3D model. Known image compression tools cannot take advantage of the correlations between the samples. The wavelet transformed data is then encoded using a zero-tree wavelet based method. Since the encoder creates a hierarchical bitstream, the proposed technique is a progressive mesh compression technique. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a better rate distortion performance than MPEG-3DGC/MPEG-4 mesh coder. 相似文献

The removal of Fe(III), Cu(II), and Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated with a crossflow filtration technique. Alginic acid (AA)/cellulose composite membranes were used for retention. In the filtration of Fe(III) solutions, the effects of the crossflow velocity, applied pressure, AA content of the membranes, and pH on the retention percentage and the permeate flux were examined. The maximum retention percentage was found to be 89% for a 1 × 10?4M Fe(III) solution at the flow velocity of 100 mL/min and the pressure of 60 kPa with 0.50% (w/v) AA/cellulose composite membranes at pH 3. Aqueous solutions of Cu(II) and Cd(II) were filtered at the flow velocity of 100 mL/min and pressure of 10 kPa. The effects of the AA content of the membranes and pH of the waste medium on the retention percentage and the permeate flux were determined. For 1 × 10?4M Cu(II) and Cd(II) solutions, the maximum retention percentages were found to be 94 and 75%, respectively, at pH 7 with 0.50% (w/v) AA/cellulose composite membranes. When metal‐ion mixtures were used, the retention percentages of Fe(III), Cu(II), and Cd(II) were found to be 89, 48, and 10%, respectively, at pH 3 with 0.50% (w/v) AA/cellulose composite membranes. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a novel and simple route for the synthesis of the iodine isocyanate (INCO) adduct of soybean oil triglycerides is described. Soybean oil iodo isocyanate (ISONCO) was synthesized by the reaction of iodine isocyanate and soybean oil at room temperature. ISONCO was then polymerized with polyols, such as, castor oil, pentamethylene glycol, and glycerol to give the corresponding polyurethanes and with polyamines, such as, ethylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine, and triethylene tetramine to give corresponding polyureas. The structures of the monomer and the polymers were determined by FTIR and 1H‐NMR analyses. Thermal properties of the polymers were determined by DSC and TGA. Thermal degradation of the polyurethanes started at 150°C. Stability of the polyureas was higher than polyurethanes. Almost all polymers showed a Tg around ?50°C. The mechanical properties of the polymers were determined by tensile tests. Among the polymers synthesized, castor oil polyurethane showed the highest elongation at break and the lowest tensile strength of 140 KPa. MFI type zeolite membranes were synthesized in a recirculating flow system at 95 °C where the synthesis solution was flown over the tubular α-alumina supports. The performance of the membranes for the separation of binary gas mixtures and alcohol/water liquid mixtures was investigated. A membrane synthesized by two consecutive synthesis steps had a separation selectivity of 15 and 11 for equimolar mixtures of n-C4H10/CH4 and n-C4H10/N2 at 200 °C, respectively. The membrane selectively permeated large n-C4H10 over small CH4 and N2, suggesting that the separation is essentially adsorption-based and the membrane has few nonselective intercrystalline pores. The selectivities in the pervaporation separation of 5% ethanol/95% water mixture were 43 and 23 with permeate fluxes of 0.2 and 1.9 kg/m2 h at 25 and 85 °C, respectively. The separation performance of membranes showed that MFI type membranes prepared in a recirculating flow system can be used both in the separation of gas and liquid mixtures. 相似文献

The electroanalytic performances of glassy carbon paste electrode (GCPE), multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-GCPE and double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT)-GCPE, which include HNO3 washed/unwashed materials, were compared by monitoring cyclic voltammograms of potassium ferricyanide and catechol. Electrodes were prepared by introducing proper amount of DWCNT and MWCNT into GCPE. First untreated materials (DWCNT, MWCNT, GC μ-particles) were used in the electrodes and then HNO3-treated materials were utilized for comparing difference in electrochemical performances. The effect of treatment procedure was also examined by applying Raman spectroscopy to treated and untreated materials. This study investigates the effects of different concentrations of Zataria multiflora Boiss. essential oil on the quality of catfish burger during storage at 4?°C. For this purpose, fish burgers were produced with 0, 0.2 and 0.4?% ZMEO and the changes in their TBA, PV, FFA, TVB-N, microbiological loads and appeal to consumers during storage were evaluated. The obtained results indicated that the best sensory quality was attained at the highest ZMEO concentration (0.4?%) compared with control samples. The storage time significantly affected the TBA, PV, FFA, TVB-N values, as treated samples with ZMEO showed lower values of lipid oxidation products compared with the control samples. Regarding to microbial load, samples treated with 0.2 and 0.4?% of ZMEO revealed significant reduction at 9th day of storage as compared with the control samples. 相似文献
