In this paper, the damage-induced anisotropy arising from material microstructure heterogeneities at two different length scales was characterized and modeled for a wrought aluminum alloy. Experiments were performed on a 7075-T651 aluminum alloy plate using sub-standard tensile specimens in three different orientations with respect to the rolling direction. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to characterize the stereology of the final damage state in terms of cracked and or debonded particles. A physically motivated internal state variable continuum model was used to predict fracture by incorporating material microstructural features. The continuum model showed good comparisons to the experimental data by capturing the damage-induced anisotropic material response. Estimations of the mechanical stress–strain response, material damage histories, and final failure were numerically calculated and experimentally validated thus demonstrating that the final failure state was strongly dependent on the constituent particle morphology. 相似文献

Minimum substrate loss is required for resist strip of high dose, ultra shallow junction implant for source/drain extensions. Silicon surface oxidation of downstream plasma resist strip results in silicon recess of the source/drain extension regions. This paper reports the study of silicon surface oxidation for different resist strip plasma chemistries and the effect of plasma strip process parameters such as power, pressure and temperature on silicon surface oxidation. A good agreement was found between optical ellipsometry, XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and TEM (transmission electron spectroscopy) for thickness measurement of very thin (<20 Å) oxide grown on silicon surface due to plasma exposure. The chemical sensing of nerve gas agents has become an increasingly important goal due to the 1995 terrorist attack in a Tokyo subway as well as national security concerns in regard to world affairs. Chemical detection needs to be sensitive and selective while being facile, portable, and timely. In this paper, a sensing approach using a pyrene imine molecule is presented that is fluorimetric in response. The detection of a chloro‐Sarin surrogate is measured at 5 ppmv in less than 1 second and is highly selective towards halogenated organophosphates. The pyrene imine molecule is incorporated into polystyrene films as well as micrometer and sub‐micrometer fibers. Using both a direct drawing approach and electrospinning, micrometer and nanofibers can be easily manufactured. Applications for functional sensing micrometer and nanofibers are envisioned for optical devices and photonics in addition to solution and airflow sensing devices. 相似文献

This paper introduces the first detailed reaction mechanisms for Br/Hg chemistry in flue gas, and interprets the Hg oxidation performance across a broad range of Br injection rates in recent field tests at Plant Miller. Homogeneous chemistry with Br species is much faster than with Cl species because the Br atom concentrations at the furnace exit are three to four orders of magnitude greater. The dominant channels with Br are analogous to those for Cl, whereby a Br atom partially oxidizes Hg0 into HgBr which is then oxidized into HgBr2 by Br2. Mercury also oxidizes heterogeneously on unburned carbon (UBC) with Br species. This mechanism is also analogous to the surface mechanism for Cl species, except that (i) Hg0 adsorption is faster on brominated sites and (ii) the high Br atom concentrations promote recombination reactions which maintain very low surface coverages of Hg/Br species. Hence, Br addition does not promote the production of particulate-Hg. Catalytic Hg0 oxidation on SCR monoliths by Br species is more than 40 times faster than by Cl species and follows a similar mechanism. For all Br loadings over 10 ppmw in the field tests, essentially all Hg0 entering the SCR was oxidized. 相似文献

A new wavelength interval selection procedure, moving window partial least-squares regression (MWPLSR), is proposed for multicomponent spectral analysis. This procedure builds a series of PLS models in a window that moves over the whole spectral region and then locates useful spectral intervals in terms of the least complexity of PLS models reaching a desired error level. Based on a proposed theory demonstrating the necessity of wavelength selection, it is shown that MWPLSR provides a viable approach to eliminate the extra variability generated by non-composition-related factors such as the perturbations in experimental conditions and physical properties of samples. A salient advantage of MWPLSR is that the calibration model is very stable against the interference from non-composition-related factors. Moreover, the selection of spectral intervals in terms of the least model complexity enables the reduction of the size of a calibration sample set in calibration modeling. Two strategies are suggested for coupling the MWPLSR procedure with PLS for multicomponent spectral analysis: One is the inclusion of all selected intervals to develop a PLS calibration model, and the other is the combination of the PLS models built separately in each interval. The combination of multiple PLS models offers a novel potential tool for improving the performance of individual models. The proposed procedures are evaluated using two open-path Fourier transform infrared data sets and one near-infrared data set, each having different noise characteristics. The results reveal that the proposed procedures are very promising for vibrational spectroscopy-based multicomponent analyses and give much better prediction than the full-spectrum PLS modeling. 相似文献

The influence of ball milling and subsequent calcination of a 1:1 molar mixture of -Fe2O3 and Li2CO3 on the formation of LiFeO2 has been investigated. Pre-milling was found to lower the temperature of ferrite formation by ca. 200°C and a thermally stable -LiFeO2 phase was found to form in the temperature range 500–600°C. Slow cooling of the pre-milled mixture calcined at higher temperatures resulted in the formation of some LiFe5O8. 相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that aspects of the neural code of retinal ganglion cells are optimized to transmit visual information at minimal metabolic cost. Under a broad ensemble of light patterns, ganglion cell spike trains consisted of sparse, precise bursts of spikes. These bursts were viewed as independent neural symbols. The noise in each burst was measured via repeated presentation of the visual stimulus, and the energy cost was estimated from the total charge flow during ganglion cell spiking. Given these costs and noise, the theory of efficient codes predicts an optimal distribution of symbol usage. Symbols that are either noisy or costly occur less frequently in this optimal code. We found good qualitative and quantitative agreement with the measured distribution of burst sizes for ganglion cells in the tiger salamander retina. 相似文献
