Predicting the Corrosion Wear of the Difficultly Accessible Equipment in the Ammonolysis Process

An improved three-parametric (the composition, structure, and operational life of a steel) extrapolational model of the process of uniform corrosion loss of chromium and chromium-nickel steels (based on long-term pilot industrial tests) is developed and tried. The suggested model ensures a technically sufficient accuracy of medium-term prediction.

Neutron analysis of the ITER vertical neutron camera

The neutron fields in the collimators of a new design for the vertical neutron camera (VNC) of the ITER have been calculated for a standard isotropic bulk DT neutron source. The neutron and gamma-ray spectra and flux densities at the neutron detector sites have been calculated. The signal-to-background ratio of VNC detectors (²³⁸U-based fission chambers and diamond detectors) has been estimated. The signal-to-background ratios versus the threshold energy were calculated for the diamond detectors operating in the threshold counter mode. The effect of background Γ-ray radiation on the performance of the diamond detectors in the VNC environment has been estimated. The radiation heating of the VNC structural components has been calculated. The serviceability of the VNC with the proposed design has been demonstrated.     

Quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence by quinones

Obese (Lepr(fa)/Lepr(fa)) Zucker rats have a missense mutation in the leptin receptor gene. One amino acid substitution in the extracellular domain common to all known leptin receptor proteins results from this mutation. Obese Zucker rats are unable to respond behaviorally to leptin which is peripherally administered. However, conflicting reports exist on whether obese Zucker rats can respond to centrally administered leptin. The purpose of this study was to determine whether obese Zucker rats responded behaviorally and metabolically to intracerebroventricularly (i.c.v.) administered leptin and to compare the responses of lean and obese Zucker rats. We found that both lean and obese Zucker rats had similar body weight and food intake responses when administered a single i.c.v. leptin injection in a range of doses (1.25, 2.5, 5, and 10 microg), as well as daily i.c.v. administered leptin for five consecutive days. Both single and daily leptin administration also decreased respiratory quotient (RQ) similarly in lean and obese Zucker rats, indicating mobilization of fat as an energy source for leptin-treated rats. After withdrawal of daily leptin treatment, lean and obese Zucker rats exhibited different recovery responses. It is concluded that obese Zucker rats can respond to exogenous leptin when leptin is delivered into the brain ventricles.

High-strain-rate superplasticity of the Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloys with Fe and Ni additions

During high-strain-rate superplastic deformation, superplasticity indices, and the microstructure of two Al–Zn–Mg–Cu–Zr alloys with additions of nickel and iron, which contain equal volume fractions of eutectic particles of Al₃Ni or Al₉FeNi, have been compared. It has been shown that the alloys exhibit superplasticity with 300–800% elongations at the strain rates of 1 × 10^–2–1 × 10^–1 s^–1. The differences in the kinetics of alloy recrystallization in the course of heating and deformation at different temperatures and rates of the superplastic deformation, which are related to the various parameters of the particles of the eutectic phases, have been found. At strain rates higher than 4 × 10^–2, in the alloy with Fe and Ni, a partially nonrecrystallized structure is retained up to material failure and, in the alloy with Ni, a completely recrystallized structure is formed at rates of up to 1 × 10^–1 s^–1.
