The effect of sulfonation and bromination‐sulfonation on the gas transport properties of polyphenylene oxide has been investigated. These high‐performance modified polymers have been studied in the form of TFC membranes by solution coating on the skin side of polyetherimide hollow fibers. TFC membrane modules prepared from sulfonated‐brominated polyphenylene oxide as the active layer coated on polyetherimide hollow fibers. Stability of the TFC membranes was greatly improved when a wet feed stream was used instead of a dry one. Using the example of a real product, this paper shows how various usability assessments, conducted by different human factors engineers, in several phases of the product's development life-cycle, identified similar potential usability problems. Circumstances dictated that no remedial action was taken, so it was possible to track these potential usability defects to customer sites, where it was found that most of the important problems did indeed occur. Thus, it can be demonstrated that human factors advice was valid and reliable. In simpler terms, early usability evaluation by human factors engineers can save hours of wasted development effort and customer frustration, and can help to ensure that a more usable product is produced.  相似文献

This paper comprises a tutorial in the development of MMIC based high frequency multiplier chains, suitable for use in high frequency power sources. The development of suitable single function building blocks is discussed. The arrangement of suitable combinations of these building blocks in more complex cascaded chains is also presented. A strategy to aid in the identification of an optimum solution for the nominal requirement is provided. Using this approach, it is shown that a 25 to 100GHz multiplier capable of delivering more than 100mW at 100GHz is feasible using existing GaAs technology. In fact it is shown that there is potential to deliver this power level for an incident level of about 10mW at 25GHz.  相似文献

After the Fire

The recent tragic fire in Melbourne's Kew Cottages has thrown into sharp relief the problems facing the process of deinstitutionalisation in Australia. In April of this year, national attention was focused on the disaster which took the lives of nine intellectually disabled residents of the Kew institution; in the days following the fire many articles and editorials in the major metropolitan newspapers were devoted to the broader policy difficulties – notably, funding and service quality – which have plagued the nation's attempts to improve its care of the socially dependent.  相似文献

Two series of terpoly(methoxy‐cyanurate‐thiocyanurate)s based on thiodiphenol and dithiodiphenyl sulfide and on dihydroxydiphenyl ether and dithiodiphenyl ether, were prepared in good yield and purity and fully characterized. Most of the resulting polymers, formed at room temperature using phase transfer catalysis, can be cast into films with good resilience and thermal stability (some examples suffer practically no mass loss when held isothermally at 190 °C and only display appreciable losses when held continuously at 225 °C). Char yields of 53%?61% are achieved in nitrogen depending on backbone structure. Some problems were encountered with solubility, particularly with copolymers, which limited molecular weight analysis, but values of Mn = 8000–13 000 g mol?1 were obtained for the polymers based on thiodiphenol and dithiodiphenyl sulfide, and Mn = 5000–13 000 g mol?1 for the polymers based on dihydroxydiphenyl ether and dithiodiphenyl ether. DSC reveals polymerization exotherms with maxima at 184–207 °C (ΔHp = 43–59 kJ mol?1), which are believed to be due to isomerization of the cyanurate to the isocyanurate (activation energies span 159–195 kJ mol?1). Molecular simulation shows that diphenylether and diphenylsulfide display very similar conformational energy surfaces and would therefore be expected to adopt similar conformations, but the diphenylsulfide offers less resistance to deformations that increase the proximity of the two phenyl rings and results in more resilient films. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The preparation and characterization of three families of thermoplastic oligomers (Mn = 2918–13263 g mol?1) based on polyarylsulfone (PSU) differing in both molecular weight and terminal functionality and one series of polyarylethersulfone (PES) of different molecular weights is reported. Infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy data support the formation of both the hydroxyl terminated oligomers and conversion (67–89% depending on molecular weight) to the telechelic PSU oligomer bearing reactive benzoxazine groups. Differential scanning calorimetry reveals that the onset of homopolymerization in the telechelic PSU oligomer occurs at around 100°C (peak maximum 125°C at 10 K/min) and rescans show values of the glass transition (for the homopolymers) ranging from 124 to 167°C depending on molecular weight. Preliminary results illustrate the possibility of charge contrast imaging (CCI) of polymeric materials. Possible CCI images of low-density polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride reveal details that may aid in the characterization of the microstructure of polymeric materials. These pictures were obtained with a Hitachi S-3000N variable pressure scanning electron microscope with the environmental secondary electron detector (ESED).  相似文献
