Although recent years have seen significant advances in the spatial resolution possible in the transmission electron microscope (TEM), the temporal resolution of most microscopes is limited to video rate at best. This lack of temporal resolution means that our understanding of dynamic processes in materials is extremely limited. High temporal resolution in the TEM can be achieved, however, by replacing the normal thermionic or field emission source with a photoemission source. In this case the temporal resolution is limited only by the ability to create a short pulse of photoexcited electrons in the source, and this can be as short as a few femtoseconds. The operation of the photo-emission source and the control of the subsequent pulse of electrons (containing as many as 5 x 10(7) electrons) create significant challenges for a standard microscope column that is designed to operate with a single electron in the column at any one time. In this paper, the generation and control of electron pulses in the TEM to obtain a temporal resolution <10(-6)s will be described and the effect of the pulse duration and current density on the spatial resolution of the instrument will be examined. The potential of these levels of temporal and spatial resolution for the study of dynamic materials processes will also be discussed.  相似文献

The MR studies of three histologically proven spinal neurilemmomas and neurofibromas were reviewed retrospectively. There were two benign neurilemmomas (schwannomas) and one neurofibroma. The common characteristic of these cases was a central low intensity focus ("dot") seen on postcontrast T1-weighted imaging. The low intensity foci corresponded histologically to a congeries of changes including edema, microcysts, foam cells, hyalinization of blood vessels, old hemorrhage, and dystrophic calcification.  相似文献

The number of people smoking free-base cocaine, or "crack," has increased dramatically in recent years. Concomitantly, the literature describing complications of such use has grown as well. Adverse pulmonary effects are being increasingly noted, such as respiratory symptoms, pulmonary hemorrhage, pulmonary edema, asthma, and pulmonary barotrauma. Most industrial waste streams contain a number of different heavy metals. The feasibility of selective electrodeposition of cadmium, cobalt and nickel as their pure metals (99%) from binary mixtures has been investigated. Single cation linear sweep voltamograms and nucleation potential measurements have been made and used to predict the optimum potentials and conditions for selective electro-deposition from the mixed-cation solutions. The anions used in this work are SO4 2–, Cl and BF4 . The optimum potential for removal by electrodeposition of Cd from a solution containing Cd(ii) and Co(ii) or Ni(ii) without codepositing Co or Ni has been evaluated from a simple diagram constructed from nucleation potential measurements. It is shown that the [Cd(ii)] remaining in the solution after exhaustive electrolysis at a fixed potential is determined by the Nernst equation, and not by the electrolysis time provided that a critical minimum time has been exceeded.  相似文献

为了使得计算机能自动生成表达力丰富的三维场景的艺术绘制,提出了一种基于Shader的多重绘制模型,并采用了多重绘制的协调、参数空间的纹理铺陈、基于色调的表现控制等技术来进行模拟.引入多重绘制可以同时采用对象空间的绘制和图像空间的绘制,通过纹理铺陈描述语言Shader,用户可以定义自己的纹理和笔划来表现三维和二维场景.不同于传统的Shader,基于Shader的多重绘制模型采用光亮度、材质颜色等作为输入,由用户自行决定绘制结果的输入.这一用户可定制性的引入大大增强了艺术绘制的表现能力.该模型已经在一个建筑设计系统中得到实现,以钢笔画为表现媒介的图例表明该模型模拟效果令人满意.  相似文献

Dielectric elastomers (DEs), a class of soft electroactive polymers that change size upon exposure to an external electric field, constitute an increasingly important class of stimuli-responsive polymers due primarily to their large actuation strains, facile and low-cost fabrication, scalability, and mechanical robustness. Unless purposefully constrained, most DEs exhibit isotropic actuation wherein size changes are the same in all actuation directions. Previous studies of DEs containing oriented, stiff fibers have demonstrated, however, that anisotropic actuation along a designated direction is more electromechanically efficient since this design eliminates energy expended in nonessential directions. To identify an alternative, supramolecular-level route to anisotropic electroactuation, we investigate the thermal and mechanical properties of novel thermoplastic elastomer gels composed of a selectively solvated olefinic block copolymer that not only microphase-separates but also crystallizes upon cooling from the solution state. While these materials possess remarkable mechanical attributes (e.g., giant strains in excess of 4000%), their ability to be strain-conditioned enables huge anisotropic actuation levels, measured to be greater than 30 from the ratio of orthogonal actuation strains. This work establishes that crystallization-induced anisotropic actuation can be achieved with these DEs.  相似文献

The South Atlantic Ocean near the Río de la Plata Estuary is a highly dynamic region that encompasses four different water bodies: the Río de la Plata, the continental shelf and the Brazil and Malvinas currents. Bio-optical measurements obtained during 6–11 November 1999 provided the initial field data for validating Sea viewing Wide Field of view Sensor (SeaWiFS)-derived chlorophyll imagery for this region. The turbid waters of the Río de la Plata Estuary showed the highest variability and complexity in water optical properties, while the offshore waters of the Brazil Current had the lowest. In most cases, the estimates of chlorophyll using the SeaWiFS algorithm were higher than in situ measured values.  相似文献
