In many cognitive, metacognitive, and perceptual tasks, measurement of performance or prediction accuracy may be influenced by response bias. Signal detection theory provides a means of assessing discrimination accuracy independent of such bias, but its application crucially depends on distributional assumptions. The Goodman–Kruskal gamma coefficient, G, has been proposed as an alternative means of measuring accuracy that is free of distributional assumptions. This measure is widely used with tasks that assess metamemory or metacognition performance. The authors demonstrate that the empirically determined value of G systematically deviates from its actual value under realistic conditions. A distribution-specific variant of G, called Gc, is introduced to show why this bias arises. Using 3 experiments, we examine whether simple pairwise comparison judgments, involving the recognition heuristic (Goldstein & Gigerenzer, 2002), are sensitive to implicit cues to the nature of the comparison required. In Experiments 1 and 2, we show that participants frequently choose the recognized option of a pair if asked to make “larger” judgments but are significantly less likely to choose the unrecognized option when asked to make “smaller” judgments. In Experiment 3, we demonstrate that, overall, participants consider recognition to be a more reliable guide to judgments of a magnitude criterion than lack of recognition and that this intuition drives the framing effect. These results support the idea that when making pairwise comparison judgments, inferring that the recognized item is large is simpler than inferring that the unrecognized item is small. The effectiveness of P(E‐co‐MA‐co‐GMA) as a compatibilizer for recycled PET/PP and recycled PET/PP‐EP (polypropylene (ethylene‐propylene) heterophase copolymer) blends was investigated by means of morphological (scanning electron microscopy), rheological (small amplitude oscillatory shear), mechanical (tensile, flexural and impact tests), and thermal (differential scanning calorimetry) properties. Compatibilizer concentration ranged from 1 to 5 wt % with respect to the whole blend. All blends were obtained in a 90/10 composition using a twin screw extruder. Compatibilization effects for PETr/PP‐EP were more pronounced due to ethylene segments present in both PP‐EP and P(E‐co‐EA‐co‐GMA). PETr/PP‐EP has shown greater dispersed phase size reduction, a more solid‐like complex viscosity behavior and larger storage modulus at low frequencies in relation to PETr/PP blend. For both investigated blends, mechanical properties indicated an improvement in both elongation at break and impact strength with increasing compatibilizer content. H(2)(18)O under the bridge: Recently, the deoxyxylulose phosphate (DXP) pathway was discovered to be a second pathway supplying isoprenoid biosynthetic precursors. One of steps is an IspG-catalyzed reductive deoxygenation of methylerythritol cyclodiphosphate (MEcPP) to 4-hydroxyl-3-methyl-2-(E)-1-diphosphate (HMBPP). Using [2-(13) C,(18) O]-MEcPP, we detected the positional isotopic exchange for the bridging oxygen in MEcPP.  相似文献

Fracture healing is characterized by an inflammatory phase directly after fracture which has a strong impact on the healing outcome. Neutrophils are strong contributors here and can release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). NETs are found after trauma, originally thought to capture pathogens. However, they can lead to tissue damage and impede wound healing processes. Their role in fracture healing remains unclear. In this study, the effect of isolated NETs on the function of bone-forming mesenchymal stem cells (SCP-1 cells) was examined. NETs were isolated from stimulated healthy neutrophils and viability, migration, and differentiation of SCP-1 cells were analyzed after the addition of NETs. NETs severely impaired the viability of SCP-1 cells, induced necrosis and already nontoxic concentrations reduced migration significantly. Short-term incubation with NETs had a persistent negative effect on osteogenic differentiation, as measured by AP activity and matrix formation. The addition of DNase or protease inhibitors failed to reverse the negative effect of NETs, whereas a short febrile-range temperature treatment successfully reduced the toxicity and membrane destruction. Thus, the possible modification of the negative effects of NETs in fracture hematomas could be an interesting new target to improve bone healing, particularly in patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes.  相似文献

The application of flying head technology in optical recording promises a considerable increase in recording density. It may be used for both far field and near field recording. For dynamic in situ flying height and flight attitude measurements, a prototype of a thermal test head has been developed. It takes advantage of the heat transfer in sub-micrometer air bearings as well as its dependence from the air gap width. Such a test head has a slider with a similar air bearing surface as the recording head, but with thermo-resistive sensors that are energized by Joule's heat and embedded at each of the four corners. The paper describes the head design and the fabrication technology and provides first experimental test results as well.  相似文献

1‐Deoxy‐D ‐xylulose 5‐phosphate (DXP) synthase is the first enzyme in the methylerythritol phosphate pathway to essential isoprenoids in pathogenic bacteria and apicomplexan parasites. In bacterial pathogens, DXP lies at a metabolic branch point, serving also as a precursor in the biosynthesis of vitamins B1 and B6, which are critical for central metabolism. In an effort to identify new bisubstrate analogue inhibitors that exploit the large active site and distinct mechanism of DXP synthase, a library of aryl mixed oximes was prepared and evaluated. Trihydroxybenzaldoximes emerged as reversible, low‐micromolar inhibitors, competitive against D ‐glyceraldehyde 3‐phosphate (D ‐GAP) and either uncompetitive or noncompetitive against pyruvate. Hydroxybenzaldoximes are the first class of D ‐GAP‐competitive DXP synthase inhibitors, offering new tools for mechanistic studies of DXP synthase and a new direction for the development of antimicrobial agents targeting isoprenoid biosynthesis.  相似文献

An inductive device with a moving core will change its inductance as a function of the core position. By extending this principle to a microtransformer with multiple evenly spaced cores, a measurement system combining features of analog (variable reluctance) and incremental positioning may be devised. For detecting the direction of motion system (to know in which direction to count), an incremental length-measurement system not only requires one, but two output signals, which have to be offset by 90deg. To increase the driving force as well as to reduce tolerance issues during assembly, a linear hybrid step micro-actuator developed within the cooperation time was subjected to a redesign. FEM simulation results show that, by doubling of the micro-actuator footprint in conjunction with a selective increase of the micro-actuator building height, an increase of the driving force could be achieved. At the same time, the nominal air gap could be doubled, thus substantially reducing critical assembly tolerances. This paper describes redesign considerations and present FEM simulation results for the redesign.  相似文献
